Let me clarify, the concept of social networks itself is not bad, it's just a way of communication. What's seriously bad is the way most of them are implemented in practice. I.e. disrespecting privacy, exploiting users' personal information for monetary gain, centralized control of one entity and so on. So you wouldn't find me on FB, G+, Twitter and etc.
But who said that all of them should be bad? If in theory one can make a network which is built for the sake of social interaction and communication and not for the sake of exploiting personal info of its users, then I would have nothing against such one. As usual, proper engineering solutions can be used to avoid major pitfalls. Enter the age of decentralized social networks ;D
