I am now trying DoNotTrackMe add on, at least to stop a part of tracking cookies. What do you think of it?
Your previous post addresses my concerns exactly. Facebook is really terrible as well, it is why I stopped using it. And yet I cannot delete the account because it's so convenient at times.

I haven't tried DoNotTrackMe, but I use Disconnect, Ghostery and PrivacyFix. The last PrivacyFix update added a 'connect to Facebook' option and you can even FB-share some of the stats (like the calculation of how much Google makes from your searches lol) so I'm trying to figure out if it's some sort of a joke or what. It does have an excellent list of privacy options and periodically reminds you of what you should review for certain websites, so I don't know. I just think the FB integration is ironic considering what they claim to stand for.

Sooner or later, every browser goes to shit. Google does a lot of things right, but what's happened with youtube lately simply enrages me. And the adds are getting ridiculous. You don't need an ad for every fucking vid you watch.

Totally agree on YouTube. It's gone to shit recently. Put on a playlist the other day, and there was a fucking ad in between almost every 5-ish minute video. Utterly retarded.

I've never seen adds on youtube, not even on that piece of crap Ipad that for some unknown reason has pornographic adds on nearly every website.

The only thing that drives me insane are the embedded youtube videos that always immediately start the second you open a page...

For those annoying videos you can use flashblock. Then you have to start the videos yourself. Works a charm for just about every site out there, and you can of course whiteblock sites like youtube itself if you want.

AdBlock Plus/Edge works like a charm btw, but I still sometimes get ads in playlists and such, which is annoying. Couldn't surf the net without it though, as I HATE ads. Hate is probably too mild a term. Just hope it doesn't stop working. A hardware site in Norway has some detection for it, so they have their own filth pop up every once in a while. Means I stopped usisng that site, as it was basically just a massive advertisement for hardware anyway, but it's bad news if stuff like that spreads.

Bill Hicks had a healthy advice for people in the advertising business.

"Go and kill yourself."

Well I assumed Ad blocker was nothing special. Just gave it a run and yes, it blocks all youtube ads. I don't why I didn't try it earlier.

Another tip is to use something called "Element hiding helper for Adblock Plus". With this you can remove stuff that Adblock Plus doesn't catch, or just other features you want removed from a given website, like annoying dropdown menus or whatever. Very handy.

When you choose it, you can click on a section of the website, which then selects a HTML tag to remove. You can obviously remove something important you don't want removed, so be a little careful, but it's very helpful for those sites with annoying crap you don't want to see, or ads that slip through Adblock Plus' net.

As a small example, I've removed a few animated avatars here on the forum, as I don't like those. They just draw your attention when you want to read the posts instead.

You you would think so wouldn't you?

Let me clue you in on how youtube works, not just for Google but also for individual video creators, the people who make the content you enjoy watching.

Advertisements on videos are use by a great deal of youtube partners, including myself as a means of making a living. The channels which make the best videos out there in terms of production: AngryJoe for instance, TotalHalibut, OMFGCata rely on these to make a living and to pay for all the costs that come from making good videos on youtube. Even a simple walkthrough requires a lot of money spent on recording programs, rendering programs, microphones and finally a good solid PC to be able to record games at full HD at a reasonable frame rate. For those recording console footage they also need a capture device.

All of this can be pretty expensive, and of course there are living costs for anyone who is an adult trying to live on their own.

To anyone that might say: "STFU AND GET A JOB YOU LAZY FUCK" I will reply as a youtube content producer that this IS my job. I work a lot of hours every day and I don't have the luxury of taking a vacation because that always means a massive hit with views and ultimately earnings: Going away even one week to Germany made my earnings drop by half for that month.

Even someone producing Let's Plays, which is what I do, not only has to deal with challenge of commenting while recording ( which you need to do because companies do not like silent Let's Plays in general, and can easily slam you with a copyright strike ) you also have to spend a great deal of time finding the perfect recording settings for your software, sound settings, rendering settings in Vegas or Adobe.

Then you have to upload the video, with tags, description, thumbnail, annotations, playlists and so on and FINALLY you have to deal with all the users on youtube, because if you ignore your subscriber base you're not going anywhere but of course you are getting to constant spiteful comments, harassment, insults etc. If you are a very large youtube channel with tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of subscribers then you deal with the kind of bullying, insulting and harassment on an even higher level then what Jennifer Hepler faced before she shut down her twitter account, but you also do it EVERY FUCKING DAY.

Even as a small channel like mine you still have to deal with this, on a much lesser scale true but it does get to you: You can't just ignore your comments section nor can you just ignore it when it occurs so often. Totalhalibut, who has 1 million subscribers said it's a lot worse then working at a call center for a company, because when people shout at you they are not angry at you, they are angry at your company that you represent. When they shout in comments on youtube they are shouting at you.

FINALLY on top of everything I've just mentioned you get in awesome situation where you find out that 30-50% of your entire viewer base is using Ad Blockers because "they are annoying to deal with it and they just feed this evil company".

To this I reply that while I am not a fan of some of Google's practices that they only get the lesser percentage from adds, most of it goes to the content producers. I understand and know very well that advertisements on youtube are annoying, which is why I hope they add an optional paid subscription like twitch which removes them if you pay a monthly fee, but considering everything a content producer has to deal with someone coming up and saying they use an Ad Blocker is like being spat in the face, this is why despite being annoyed by ads I don't use a blocker.

Ultimately what I'd ask is to show respect for someone's work if you watch his or her's videos often by disabling the Ad Blocker for their videos at least, and yes every video needs ads or it's a waste of time to record, render and upload it.

Don't mind ads, just mute 'em and rock out to some Tull or whatever until they're over, as they're never anything i'm interested in.

That's fine Knight, because those channels don't make Ad Revenue since they are not partners ( no company on youtube will ever make you one if you post upload songs on your channel ), rather youtube seeking to recover from their massive losses and trying to keep companies happy has made the content ID system a nasty beast which adds commercials to videos of non-partnered channels.

A monthly, yearly, or whatever cost of ad-free YouTube would be okay in my opinion. That said the cost would naturally have to be reasonable. I really have no problem supporting people I do like to watch, but will not deal with ads unless I'm watching on my phone.

I'll disagree though that it's a waste of time, for someone who is doing it as a means of income, yes. But if someone who had a decent amount of income and purely loved to just do it, then no. And please don't take any of my words personally, I'm sure you could care less of my viewpoint, but it matters little to me whether or not someone monetises their video.

And the last thing. I've been meaning to ask you for a link to your channel for a look see.

http://www.youtube.com/user/CostinHD here.

Don't get me wrong I do love doing this, which is why I have been recording, rendering and uploading videos since late 2009 and only became a partner in 2011, but I also need to live and the money isn't as great as some might think.

As for subscription costs, well twitch has a 3 to 5 dollars situation for a month subscription. Reasonable I'd say.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying monetising videos means you, makes you any less passionate. My favorite company has gone sky high because of that and ads. I say if you love something and can make money doing it, do it.

I've seen numbers of of money per hit or subscribers. I wouldn't ask personally, not my business. From what I understand only the big boys make good money at it.

I will look through your videos and give you the respect you asked for as a fellow forumite.

Thank you. :)

Yeah exactly. Precise numbers can't be given because they do vary from day to day, month to month, but in general it's 2.5 CPM, or 2.5 for 1000 views, but the company who made you a partner and gets you permissions from video game developers so you can upload clips takes 30 to 50% from that, depends on your contract.

Been wanting to see some Divinity: Dragon Commander since I first saw you mention it, good deal. I haven't watched regular let's plays for awhile, watched a good bit of Helloween4545 through the years.

I don't dislike Google, but I wish they wouldn't keep changing stuff just when you're getting used to it.

And wooosh! House move done, and I now have an internet bandwidth that's measured in M instead of K again!

About Ad Block not blocking everything, go into Filter preferences and untick "Allow some non-Intrusive advertising."
I don't think this feature exists in Google Chrome, in Firefox everything is blocked. I wonder why. Anyhow, I guess AdBlock developers need to make money like everyone else.

I wouldn't add too much stuff, Ad Block Plus blocks already enough ads, popups and banners and instead too many adds on may screw the browser.

Ad Block Plus is not designed to block all the ads but only the most intrusive and annoying. Not intrusive ads is still allowed and you have to go into AD Block settings to block them too. There's a little box to uncheck.

Also, since it's an opensource project, Ad Block relies on users contribution. Those ads and pop ups which are not in the list, cannot be blocked. You have to report them or create a filter by yourself to be report ino AD Block community.
It's like for antivirus: they find the med, they make even more nasty malwares and so on.

@Costin
I'm aware of how much is important to monetarize videos and website for the survival of certain people or companies. Internet is not for free it has a cost, and I accept it.

Two things I don't accept (and it doesn't depend on you and those who allow ads to stay in their websites\videos\channels, but on those who make ads): highly intrusive ads, especially those who tracks your cookies and emails; banners and popups who cover half of the page and cannot be closed or ignored. I am sorry, but when I wan to surf on internet or just watch a simple video, I don't want to have to deal with all that stuff, coz it's coming to be actually "A LOT".

I honestly couldn't give a rat's ass if somebody on youtube want extra money from ads. I'm not watching them if I can help it. If that means they get a cent less or whatever, then I'm not going to cry or feel ashamed over that. As I understand it they get income from views too, so that should be plenty good enough.

Then you don't understand anything, or even bothered to read my post.

We only get paid through views of people who do not use ad blockers, only those are relevant.

I can understand that, but I'd point out those ads are also those that pay the most. Companies despite spamming the internet with ads don't think youtube is that relevant for marketing. They are starting to change their views somewhat but it's still a slow process.
