Weren't we supposed to be able to see V in mirrors and reflecting surfaces?

I think I've found why we can't see V in mirrors except scripted ones.

Like most first-person games, in order to avoid horrible clipping, V has no head.

RT render V's model in an accurate way, so if they made ray-traced relfection for V, we would have seen him without his head, which I think is more immersion killing than no relfection at all.

They already confirmed a few weeks ago that there won't be mirror reflections for V except in those special mirrors you have to activate.
Devs said it was for performance reasons.

I can confirm V is completely invisible in Raytracing reflection on psycho.

It's not for performance reasons. First person animations seen in real time never look good, because the animations are made with a specific camera angle and movement in mind. Look at Mirror's Edge with a third person mod for an example.

Should they allow V to be seen in real time reflection, we would be bound to see the obvious flaws. Moreso, I wouldn't be surprised if the first person variant of V's body mesh was less detailed as a result (no hair, no head, etc.), so not only the animation would be ugly, but the mesh also, unless they start tricking real time reflection to not be realtime anymore for V and spawn a more detailed version for reflection only.

For some reasons, it's "more immersive" to not see our character than to see the mess it would be.

While Raytracing is an option, the game wasn't designed with that in mind. This is the first generation where real time reflections can be used basically everywhere, so management of first person in these circumstances are still fairly new.

Well no wonder I can run this game at 52-60fps with Ray Tracing set to insanity mode with the 3080.

Honestly I think Ray tracing is turned on but not for npc's or your own character and that's why most mirrors are just blurred. I'm surprised watch dogs does it but not 2077

Guess the "V" stands for "vampire".

I can see their reflections, but it's not uncommon that the reflections are off. For example, I had a reflection of a guy who was standing, but he was actually sitting next to the window.

The character is excluded from the reflection pipe line. My guess is that the game does some weird things to the character model while in first person, and the devs didn't want the player to see it for obv reasons

Oh good, I thought it was just me. After spending an hour and a half in character creation then to see myself hairless in the mirror in my apt I was frantically trying to figure out what I had done wrong.

The issue is that the game hides the hair, hat, and facial accessory when in first-person so they don't block your view. You can see this by getting on a motorcycle, when it switches to third-person, there's a brief glimpse of you without your hat, hair, and face item before they pop in. They apparently forgot to pop those in when you go to a mirror because CDPR devs are incompetents.

Cause personally, when I look at a mirror, I got this (with reflections set at "Psycho" level):

Very immersive indeed...
And for the record, reflecting surfaces existed way before ray tracing, for those wanting to use that argument.

Is that your corp V at the beginning . Cause if so. I saw my V in the mirror at the beginning.

Yes, you see yourself, then you don't anymore because CDprojekt was unable to let you see you character in a non-scripted way, which is shameful while it already existed in the very first Deus Ex game.

If you do FPP, do it right at least!

What's funny about that is those aren't reflections, those are a ghost world where instead of a reflection you have a ghost Mario. Likewise I'm pretty sure that's the same thing cdpr did with your reflection in mirrors you activate.
But, it's really shitty that even watch dogs can do it

Oof. I was hoping for a mod to force 3rd person mode, but that might not even be possible from the looks of things. Or rather it wouldn't be worth it

In my opinion there are no mirrors because of the fact that V just moves "weirdly" just look down on his legs when you walk and take turns...his legs spins like insane so seeing V like this in mirror would just show they didn't create animations for this, that's also why there won't be a 3rd person view mod, cause V would just be walking and doing things in a weird way

So someone modded it and turned on reflections.
However v is headless (due to first person view)
So this explains the real reason you don't get reflections

www.nexusmods.com

Enable character reflection to reflective surfaces

This change in an .ini file will add the reflection of your character to reflective surfaces.

Thanks.
So once more, the First Person View served as a poor excuse not to animate the avatar correctly.
