What are good build orders/tips for insane mode etc?

Hi

I am planning to play this game on insane. To get used to the controls and the basics I have played through prologue on normal difficulty. Now I want to restart and enjoy my first play through on insane mode. :D

As I am still new to the game, are there any essential upgrades/talents (what ever they are called) which I should spend my xp on?

I would be really grateful if you could post a build order and any tips to help me achieve this goal.

Should I feel scared?

Many thanks in advance

Andy

Upgrade Quen.. That is the most important.. I am only up to Vergen though so I haven't actually finished it yet.. But Quen helps a lot.. And the transfers damage option it has..

I don't know how confident you feel about controls and combat, but maybe you should consider playing some more than just prologue to try out different tactics, especially with bombs, traps and daggers.

I am completing my 2nd playthrough on hard and after that I am planning my Insane run.

Good luck :)

collect those herbs and mix those potions mate. when u play on normal you dont need to use anything on hard it comes in handy but on Insane you better make good few pots against all types of monsters and make one type of pot to counter side effect of others..

I'm trying to help you without spoiling to much. Whats the fun if someone tells you everything, you wont feel rewarded after finishing on Insane :) have fun and dont bush you keyboard if you die

You should definitely upgrade Quen and increased rolling distance as soon as possible. Then you should rush for one of the adrenaline abilities, since they seriously help.
Generally just be patient and take your time with everything. Use everything at your disposal: bombs, potions, oils and daggers can really trivialize some encounters.
Good luck :)

I recommend playing it on hard first, and don't forget that on insanity a backstab/slash from a enemy drains almost your entire health bar. You should upgrade that first.

Really a pain when you played through the intro, and almost the entire first chapter, and then get owned by an endrega queen. The next playthrough I placed 40 traps before destroying the last cocoon. That did the trick. :)

Yes I would recommend the same thing. HARD is perfect difficulty, Im 400% you will die few times on your first run on HARD I'm not even talking about INSANE so you are wasting time.. this way you will atleast see how things work

Should I feel scared?

Yes. You should, it is fear that will get you past this difficulty. Done it 4 times myself. ( Full Runs that is, not counting failed ones ).

Perhaps I'm a masochist but I started the game off on Insane right off the bat ( Normal? Hard? phah ).

Swordsman is the most balanced tree for the job, but do upgrade Quen, get feet work and get the talent to reduce backstab damage.

AND DO NOT TRY THE OPERATOR UNLESS YOU ARE 35. Without the recent Quen nerf he was a great challenge on Insane, now he drops you dead in a few hits with his pets.

Here's a guide for the Kayran on Insane by myself:

Fear it is then.

I am going to do it! Thanks for the tips. I like playing scared, taking my time and taking every risk seriously. Planning as I go.

Are there any other places/people I should avoid until a certain level?

Thanks guys!

There is a cave in Flotsam that you have to enter during the quest "Malena". Be really careful, and get at lots of bombs. Many people die there even on lower difficulties.
Also dont agree to go to the cave during the "Scent of Incense" quest. You will lose all your equipment and will have to potentially fight some guys. If you decide not to trust the guy he will mark that location on your map so you can keep your stuff.

Take Iorveth's path if you want to get to level 35 as fast as possible. And like I said watch out for those endrega queens. You can just run off and regenerate your vitality if it hits you, but one of it's attacks is instant death without quen or upgraded vitality.

And watch out with quicktime events, especially the one with the dragon in the end. If you do click the wrong mouse button, you can save your ass by pressing escape and loading, but if you don't notice you clicked the wrong mouse button your done, and you'll have to replay the entire game.

Most important is not giving up when you die, I got very angry the second time, played some other games for a few days and tried again ;)

The "Scent of Incense" cave isn't that bad: if you're quick, you can get your stuff back before getting into the fight.

Dancing Star bombs clear out the "Malena" cave fast; if you're not a bomb thrower, lay back and let the nekkers come at you.

The endrega queens are easiest fought with traps; second best, surprisingly, is staying close to them and pushing them around with signs. If you run from them, they have a leaping attack that is much deadlier than their standing attack.
