I think the 3rd one was the plan. I could of swore they mentioned in an interview about a month back that Witcher 3 brings Geralt's story to an end but for a forth Witcher game it's likely they'll go with a player created Witcher.
More Ciri
This is the first witcher game that i have successfully finished! Was quite moved by the story of Geralt and his hunt to find his adopted daughter Ciri. (Who he hasn't seen since she was a child) Was alittle disappointed that i spent most of the game looking for her and only replaying passed events although it made their first meeting even more powerful. Especially given Ciri's..... Condition when he does.
The ending that i got was I assume (the good one) unless the various endings are just the state of the world videos. But i found the ending to be somewhat hollow. Good but hollow.
I'm hoping that CD Project Red includes more Ciri content in the future or perhaps in the next witcher game (if there is one)! If their is another witcher game then perhaps we can choose which character to play as. Geralt or Ciri? Maybe even Yennefer if they feel like a three way

As to taking on Martin (yuck!) or Tolkien, I think and hope the answer is an unambiguous and immediate no.
These are IP that would be fantastically costly to license, with creators that are unprofessional (Martin) or suffer from author existence failure (Tolkien).
As they have done with Cyberpunk 2077, they should instead choose:
* Works that are part of the cultural heritage of their core market (as The Witcher)
* Works that they themselves enjoy and can establish a solid foundation with the author (as Cyberpunk)
and leave the corporate gaming houses to fall all over each other trying to get the game rights to ASOIAF or get read the riot act for trying to commercialize LOTR.

Problem with Witcher " Girls " is that storywise they don't exist do they? Not to mention according to the loading screen text no Witcher schools currently train new Witchers so either CDR need to change some things to allow female Witchers/have Witchers train new schools or set the game in the past long before Geralt's time.
Or maybe (as I said in another thread) we could look into the story of another Witcher - one long before Geralt, or maybe someone from his time. If we could play as Coen, the witcher that had his first winter in Kaer Morhen during Ciri's training, it would be awesome. We know how he dies, but we know almost nothing about his past. And I think in the books it is said he is even faster than Geralt. Plus he had a lot of scars from diseases which he must have got before his mutations - maybe his parents took him to a witcher school as he was sick and that was the only way he could have survived. I don't know, many possibilities, but I think we should play with an already existing character or at least one, created by CDProjekt and not customized by players.
Nah, there was initially a statement to that effect, but they later corrected it into saying that this would be the end of Geralt's saga, but not Witcher franchise, which opens up the possibility of a Witcher game with a new protagonist.
Hmmm, as much as I love this game, I don;t want it to be ruined due to people getting too familiar and sick of the genre. Sometimes it is best to go out on a high. The again this is CDRED, they would only do it if they felt they could do the game justice.
Glad you've become a Witcher fan. You should play the first 2 games and/or read the books/novels if you have the time. The lore of The Witcher is so incredibly rich and interesting. But we should give credit where credit's due though. Andrzeij Sapkowski wrote all the novels and he made up the vast majority of The Witcher lore, CDPR merely piggybacked on his amazing work and made 3 awesome games that continue the story where the novels left off.
Rather than seeing a GoT or LOTR game from CDPR I'd rather see more Witcher stuff from them (after Cyberpunk 2077 ofcourse). Maybe a Witcher game that shows us the world of The Witcher before the witchers went near-extinct? I'd love to see Kaer Mohren during it's peak at it's full glory when several dozens of witchers were being trained and graduated every year at Kaer Mohren.
Well, Ciri is an exception - she is not even fully a Witcher, as she is not subjected to the mutations. IIRC the mutations don't work on women, or at least have widely unpredictable effects on them, since they were made with men in mind.
please no prequel to Geralts story..........thats just milking the story
