What LEVEL are you?

Just curious to see what levels are being achieved by players by the time they beat the game or by the time you get to Act 3? (without cheating)

Finished the game at about lvl 35 on Death March. All quests done (except latest dlc) but lots of "?" markers still undiscovered.

39, close to 40 and I have no more monster contracts or side quests. All map locations are opened up in Velen, White Orchard, Novigrad, but I still have sunken treasure in Skellige to grab. All poster boards in all lands completely cleansed, and Kaer Morhen quests are fulfilled. It took me longer to get from 35-39, then it took me to get to 35. Being rewarded 5XP for each quest is crap. I jumped for joy anytime I discovered an area where bandits took over settlements because those reward you a whopping 50XP. LOL.

They definitely didn't think about the leveling in this game. Considering you can attain an easy 34-35 from the story alone, considering you did some quests and monster contracts along the way, they sure as hell didn't put any post-story enemy or quests in the game. With the way this game works, you want to be fighting level 27-30 monsters at level 23-25...but once you are actually 30-35, you're completely SOL and the game just drones. You look at a bandit in Skellige and they die. I got to the point where, I put my swords away and fight certain enemy with my fists LOL. Clearing bandit camps out with your fists is hilarious.

If I did it all again, a third time, I would definitely do all the side quests and contracts first, then story last. That might get you further in level. Doing al lthe quests and contracts while you are within that level range, should yield you more XP and the story should always reward you a set, static amount. Depending on whether you performed all objectives. What I do is balance it out and do some side quests while going through the story. Especially, my first play through. I learned, from Skyrim and Oblivion, that if you do too many side quests or nothing but side quests, first, you actually forget what the story was about to begin with. That's what they now call Skyrim Amnesia, right?

I will have to agree with Garelock, leveling doesn't seem to be well done :(
It doesn't make sense to me at all.

Level 14'ish - I'm slow, very slow. I've seen snails move faster.

I am level 35. I did cheat with a quest bug. I wanted to reach level 31 to wear the Nilfgaardian Guardsman gauntlets and level 35 for the Nilfgaardian pants and boots to scale up. I'm at the quest Final Preparations

During my latest playthrough I completed the main story on level 35. But I tried to delay a lot of quests as much as possible so I wouldn't level up too quickly and I didn't do the assassination quest this time.

On my first playthrough I finished at 34, really close to 35, managed to reach 39 by completing all of the question marks and some leftover quests, maybe I will try to reach 40 although I'm 1500 exp short, on my second finished at 35, tried doing all possible quests before the game end, but a lot of quests, even main ones only gave me 5 exp. The leveling design clearly limits how high you can go, if all quests gave the fixed amount of exp regardless of the level you are at it would be possible to reach a lot higher levels. When I eventually decide to do a third playthough I will use a mod that makes all quest give exp and see how far I can go with that.

It appears that the exp gains are balanced around the main story quest lines, which is overly depressing since the real MEAT of the game is in the many many side quests, exploration and whatnot.

I love CDPR and the games they put out, but sometimes they make some decisions that baffle the mind...

Yeah.... And I absolutely don't see it as a flaw in the design. Quite the opposite: given how there isn't even "high level content" to face in the game, I think they absolutely went for the better choice.

An even better choice (the best one) would have been a completely level-less progression system, but that's an entirely different discussion to have and this is probably not the place for it.

Agreed, I also don't see it as a flaw either as there is really no point in being level 40+, maybe the expansions will add some more higher level quests or monsters to kill, that would be nice.

I see that the highest level achieved so far is mid 30's......................just how the heck are you supposed to get to level 40 and above without cheating? Maybe they want you to cheat to get to level 70...........I don't know.

Finished on Lvl 34 but now upto Lvl 39 after completing everything that can possibly be done & going on a drowner killing spree. Was going to go for the Black Unicon lvl 47 steel sword after getting the harpy but to be honest gave up as really didn't see the point continuing anymore as the world is just dead & the swords I have pretty much kill everything in one swipe anyway.

Yeah, I wish I'd have known of that glitch earlier through. By time I learned of the many XP glitches, I was only netting an XP a kill. For instance, the respawning giant glitch and I had gone too far to use the "trials" xp glitch that is in Skellige.
