Wraith bosses in general, Pesta was also incredibly hard on DM with her cloud of poisonous filies.

But yeah, drowners take the price. After two playthroughs (around 190 hs playtime) I think my death stats would look something like: 100 times killed by drowners, 70 by everything else combines

Yea wraith type is quite hard especially at early stage of the game. Enemies in group are also hard but it just takes patience. My death stats would probably look the same if it existed ;D

Mounted combat on horseback is fun too, for hit and run at enemies in group.

Wraiths are a pain, they hit like trucks and dodge masterfully....also all flying creatures that have the same animations as griffins,i just can't dodge their attacks.

Early lvl will be the werewolf, never upgraded my igni and don't have any tools to kill this beast but still able to kill this beast thanks to my viper sword.
Thanks to fighting w/ that werewolf i started going on the alchemy path. Yes sign user are OP but there no fun in that.
Skyrim werewolf is a joke but in W3 woah there beast in early game. Totally wish vampires in W3 could regenerate like the werewolf. Personally i am little bit disappointed w/ the vampires W3 even the high vampire is not that so tough. There like bigger version of foglets and have the same moveset.

Archers in early lvl Oh boy even King Leonidas awesome abs cannot w/ stand this arrows.

W/out learning about Aard how effective it could be against Water Hags are bit annoying due to there mud or maybe there shit throw ability in my face. Ty reddit for giving advice about Aard.

Mid and Late game would be Golems there Aoe attacks is devastating especially fighting them in tight corners. Also they cannot be poison, burn and bleed except for the ice infinity they could be burn. Even bombs are not quite effective against them except for northern wind. I need to drink katakan decoction to improve my damage.

Drowners and wraiths. Drowners because parrying them is useless and if you get caught in a pack, dodging is similarly unhelpful. Fortunately you can use igni or aard to get some distance.

Wraiths because of that triple combo they open up with after teleporting. My instinct is always to parry and they end up stunning me for two solid hits. Very frustrating.

Surprised to see so many folks talking about drowners. They've been among the easiest for me to fight so far, being new to the series. I only play on B&BB, though.

I've enjoyed fighting foglets as well, though they're a bit tough when you've got more than one.

The ones that are most annoying to me are the ones that explode when they get low on health. I can't remember their names and haven't ever been able to find them in the bestiary. Usually, I'll accidentally hit them with one too many fast attack and get stunned or whatever it is that happens when you hit them while they're getting ready to blow.

Not sure how I could forget werewolves! Gave me so much trouble in the beginning, when I was still learning to dodge instead of always rolling.

Coackatrice, Basilisk and Griffins give me quite a bit of trouble. I just cant seem to adjust alright to their fighting style. Everything else Im ok with. Wyverns etc. All no problem. Even if I get swarmed by drowners etc. Ill just use the group fighting stance from the sword skill tree and Ill be alright. But those 3 give me some really hard times. Oh and getting swarmed by 4+ wraiths. Not too pretty with all of them teleporting behind you as soon as you hit one of them. Though Quen does help in that case.

a pack of gargoyles or golems, if not for quen sign I definitely died a lot, you cannot parry their atttacks and if you did try you would flying 3 meter away. o yeah and also one "boss fight" that makes me almost rage quit

golden oriole makes those fights incredibly easy I've found out. It's actually pretty OP against venomous enemies.

definitely got a lot easier if you finally get a troll decoction, add with alchemy oils skills and quen sign skills you would be hard as diamond even with wearing light armors

Surprised nobody else mentioned these, but Sirens. Not that they are hard to kill by any means, but because dealing with them when out on a boat is a complete pain in the ass.

Though I do agree Drowners continue to be quite annoying even late into the game.

Foglets can be annoying until you develop a good strategy, I like to blow them down with Aard then stab them.

Nekkers are only a problem if you let them overwhelm you.

I actually have the most trouble with humans with shields, they almost never spawn alone, you gotta kill all their mates before really giving them their dues, and either you gotta roll around like mad to get around them, knock down their stamina to make em drop the shield, or use Axii for a cheap hit.

Golems can be a challenge in a pack but I feel its a very fun challenge. Drowners are an annoying challenge, thats the difference :p

But those golems in the Caranthir fight on Death March... Killed him in my 4 attempt. After the fight I had this wonderful ssense of accomplishment that you only get once in a blue moon when it comes to gaming :) The juxtaposition of Caranthir being super challenging and Eredin being laughingly easy made me depressed for a while :p

Me too, i played on Death March from the begining but beated Eredin the first time without having the potion that restores your life instantly. Interesting but not really hard.

Alghouls are pretty difficult when they're a couple of levels higher than you since they regenerate and tend to be unpredictable. You might be fighting one but then two attack from the rear, your have to retreat, end up fighting another one and then the one that you almost killed is regenerated and the cycle starts again. lol.

Golems of course, they hit hard and have a lot of life. Also - they are nearly invulnerable to signs. You have to get in close with your sword and then dodge or roll away.

Leshens took me a while to get the hang of, I was dodging the roots too early and it ended up hitting me. You have to wait for the "bang" until you start the roll.

Drowners are just irritating, it's such an "easy" enemy but you really have to roll away or they will stagger you.

Archers can be a real pain until you get the deflect arrow skill.

Sirens are a walk in the park. Just shoot them down and stab them in the heart.

With the Igni flame jet they drop their shield.

Used to be Wraith bosses in general - Jenny Of The Woods, that damned lighthouse one in Skellige - until I discovered that hitting them with a Moon Dust Bomb stops them from fading back into their invincible form. Now they're nothing to worry about.

So I say any high level swarming enemy. It only takes one mistimed parry or block to have your entire life bar fade away

None.

Early game, groups of enemies (wolves, drowners) were tricky, but not anymore (level 10+). Nothing bothers me now. Even if I run into higher level monsters, they will mostly go down as well.

Aard sweep is the best thing against packs of wolves or nekkars. Actually it's the best against a pack of anything.

Against drowners I go dodge -> heavy attack and repeat. Drowners also have a high chance of being set on fire by igni.

Not really a troubling enemy, but an annoying one nonetheless: Armored Arachne. Most of their attacks are super easy to dodge but I swear their pounce attact is nigh impossible to get away from.

As for the toughest: The first werewolf I encountered in Velen. Took me a while to figure out a way to counteract that insane regen. Since then I've faced another one and managed to beat him pretty well but that first fight was insane (though I think I was underleveled for it).
