Graphics is the only thing this has on withcer 3, but considering it isn't open world, that's not saying much. Personally I find the overuse of the whole slow-down-to-react thing sickening. I believe TW3 might employ it sparingly in those weak spot identifying moments.

My opinion:

I am rather tired of the pervasive Matrix after-taste that this is giving off. While the cinematic flamboyancy, with its impish camera and dramatic deceleration and acceleration, might be thought of as suitable for a demo or a CGI trailer like Killing Monsters - both of which aimed at grabbing and keeping one's attention for just 3 minutes - it'd be ill-suited for a game that lasts 100 hours. It'd quickly get old, tiresome and just become a nuisance.

One additional thought. TW3 is said to be a mature game. I feel portraying killing as this relentless, detached, stylized, almost abstract act would be forcing a juvenile point-of-view upon the game. I'm also doubtful it'd be in-character.

Well said, perfectly summarizes my thoughts too.^^

I would like to see if Ryse creators can really deliver on what they promised. Now we can only compare TW2 combat vs. the plans of Ryse's creators. Combat in TW3 will be greatly improved over TW2, which already was OK for me.

In TW3:
- The flow will be more natural vs. TW2 and there will be almost 100 distinct animations now (vs. around 30 before).
- I think it was confirmed that there will be no QTEs so no finishers and I like it because QTEs break the flow.
- I hope for even better AI. In TW2 opponents can attack at once from different directions so it's good already. In Ryse it looks as if AI did not care much to kill you - they take turns to attack you.
- It would be nice to be able to control the distance of the camera in TW3 (was confirmed if I remember correctly). In Ryse it's too small for a witcher, who uses ranged attacs with sings, bombs, daggers etc.
- I don't like constant slowmo/fastforward changes. It's better to have same speed + active pause + temporary slowmo for effects like elixirs.

What I would like to see in TW3 based on this video:
- Dismemberment

This is the kind of hectic zoom in, zoom out camera work I don't want to see in TW3. Just pan the camera up when we face a group of enemies, and keep it there. Let the player control the camera, not the AI. What I see are repetitive, lumbering animations that will get tiresome fast. It has neither the flow of TW2 or the heavy impact of Dark Souls.

The combat in this vid looks irritating. Just make something like mount&blade warband and it'll be fine. Or keep combat from witcher2.

The Witcher 3 should learn something from Ryse?! The hell what are you talking? Ryse is nothing mor than a joke at the moment...did you watch demos from real players who played it at Gamescom? Do you want hundreds of slow motion kills in the Witcher? Then you would know the game doesnt look like this video which was made to impress us...

that is the truth about Ryse:

The combat in that video looks quite horrible to me.

And regarding precisely the three things you mention are the coolest ones

- Camera use
- Animations
- executions

Camera was bad in my opinion, too close, lacks freedom and its simply extremely cinematic oriented, and you know what kind of game you need to make that goes well with a very cinematic camera or moments? a very easy and dumbed down one, cause if the game was challenging in any way the camera would work against you in most fights when trying to look cool.

The animations are the worst part of the video, they look awful, so fast the moves cant be seen well, so quick and rushed that the hits carry no weight at all, no sense of impact, all the moves are very fast so there is no thinking or timing involved, no time calculations, only button mashing cause its so quick you'll win anyway.

The executions are exactly the opposite of what i want for the witcher 3, they are overly violent and complicated just for the sake of blood and brutality and fashion. TW3's executions have to be quick, swift, all funcional and simple.

I completely disagree about this subect, if anything, i think TW3 should try to get away from Ryse, more than getting close to it.

Every time I see the combat on this game.

At lest The Wticher 2 is not going to the real world thing, it is fantasy. An armor like that with ornaments is more for public appearances or PR then fighting and the combat is so unrealistic that it hurts, why is the dagger is on his back like that? How can one person defeat six men alone, if you are a normal human being? This looks like AC combat but a lot more boring. If the story is strong on this game maybe I will buy it on sale otherwise nop.

You might want to edit the title of the topic.
It is wrong, it should be: "What Ryse could learn from TW3".

:p

So, nobody here would like to be able to fight like in the Killing Monsters trailer, but in actual real-time game?

Strange world.

No, I wouldn't. That fight is over in seconds. Doing that repeatedly in a 60 hr game would grate on the senses. Arkham games get it right. Pan the camera high and allow the player to control it. Those games only zoom in for the final KO. CDPR wants to show how fancy Geralt can be but every time they do this it hurts the gameplay.

Nothing. It should be the other way around. Ryse should learn with The Witcher 3.
