That's a problem no rpg or game with a pletora of weapons solved yet, 'cause modification options are just another take on progression just like the "same gun +1 dmg x 100 times" you were pointing out. They are all disfunctional weapons because of stats or crap mechanics. There are only 15 kinds of weapons in games without including variations (which don't really differ much right because they are variations), and weapon exploration woke up again only recently.

This is what I have to say about Schiffs massively over simplified reference to Multiplayer FPS game theory:

Can someone ask him to stop being so vague and actually post something with some substance? Perhaps he can start by explaining this mystical list of 15 weapon types that I can't find a single reference to with google.

It may also be worth explaining that this isn't a game mechanics thread, but a style thread. We are talking about those variations he is so dismissive of, not trying to ignore them.

I concur.

If I have to pick one though I'd say the "High Five"

For those that do not know, the "High-Five" is a Damn fun bit of cyberware that mounts a shotgun shell n the palm of a cyberhand. It can be actived when contact is made with the desired target. Think ultimate facepalm.
If it doesn't kill the target in one shot, it will certainly blow the location clean off. Medium to heavy armour is the only hope.

Edit:
Almost forgot, the shell can be replaced with a shaped high explosive charge, making it far more deadly, (and obvious.)

Wouldn't that blow off your own hand as well?

I double chcked, it seems the shaped charge option was one of our hosue rules. We used to use a titanium alloy shell casing packed with C6 (by the teams demo-expert,) which would direct the blast out in the same manner as a bullet or shotgun shell. It did do damage to the hand though, (based on the unknown skill roll made on helf of the demo-expert... Mwhahahaha!)

The official options for the Palm-Bomb are 12ga shells or .477 cartridges, (as used in the Militech "Big Boomer" - equivelant in damage to a 5.56mm NATO round.)

Given that it was point blank, that does mean automatic maximum damage...

I guess the shaped charge we used could be a direct representation of a modified 12ga HEAT round. 12ga Thermite rounds would be mental though!

One-shot palm-flamer? Maybe a very short-range springloaded glass round filled with thermite, napalm and white phosphorus? Get one in each hand and you could Hadouken people!

The thermite round would need to be used in a similar manner to a shaped charge. You would need to 'project' the jet of super-hot molten metal towards the target and it would 'cut' through the majority of materials in its way with ease. Ceramics being the exception.

Napalm and WP would need to work in a similar way to a flame thrower, because if you used any container of such a mixture at such a short range you would end up covered in it too from the slash back.

APFDS rounds would be fine though, and deadly vs armoured targets.

Reminds me of the one-shot impact guns that the two covert operatives in "Inglourious Basterds" use, toward the end of the movie.

The OSS Pistol Glove, yeah, I had forgotten all about that little beauty. (Took me a while to find out what it was too after I watched the movie.)

Also, why not belt fed weapons?

Not being have to reload that often could be an advantage! :D

Belt fed handguns...

Part of me just wet itself, both in fear and excitement. Of course it will be cyberhands all round after a misfeed.

No one really knows.. They refuse to give us any more information and they didn't give us much information in the first place.. We really hope all of the weapons and vehicles from all of the books, plus at least some of the ones we posted here will make it into the game.. (That might not be possible and it might be a little too much to ask, but we want it dammit!)

CDPR and Mike said that 'our favourites' from the books, (plural,) would be in ad well as some new ones. They would also be evolving into the late 21st century.

Yeah, l remember reading something like that.. Like i've said, we all would like to have all of the weapons from all of the sourcebooks and more, but thats probably a little too much, considering there are an incredible number of weapons.. :D It is a shame though..
