What's the state of the game?

Hi. I stopped playing I think about 2 years if not longer ago after playing since closed beta. My main issue was that the importance of deckbuilding (which originally was one of the things that I liked about the game) completely went out of control in my opinion.

Basically, if you played against a meta deck, you didn't run a meta deck yourself, and your deck didn't happen to be the exact counter to your opponents deck, you lost. I like to experiment and play what feels good and don't care a lot about keeping up with the meta.

Have these issues been addressed in the last couple updates?

I feel like it's more diverse now. Not as diverse as it should be, but there are to my mind at least two decks per faction that are viable, especially if you know what you are up against. And it's definitely better than a half-year long Skellige meta.

Well, i avoided posting my take on this thread the first time i saw it to avoid influencing others with negativity, but due to the lack of feedback, i will share my own:

I am also a closed beta player, but who never left, even though i havent been really satisfied with the state of Gwent anytime during HC (so, for almost 3 years).

The problem the OP mentions is precisely my biggest issue with the game - how important the deck you're using is.
The deck is more important than the player in determing the winner, which IMO is completely wrong, skill should be the major factor, after that luck (arguably), and only after the deck of each player - maybe this is an impossible goal to achieve, but we're still too far from it.

I do admit i might be slightly biased - i've been focusing on creating original decks very intensely for the past month and a half for a project shared in this forum, and my overall experience has been quite disheartening, as i find that usually i need to pack the decks with either more control or more competitive (popular) cards for them to do well and be able to compete with metadecks.
Fortunately im quite the masochist, so i can endure a lot more, in search of the perfect meme deck
