When is PC getting HD textures?

I can't help but notice that NPCs in Witcher 2 look worse in Witcher 3. For example, letho's textures are so much blurrier than it was in Witcher 2.

...if it ever get released <_<
it'll be an other broken promess to add to the pile XD
just kidding (maybe ?). you may have to wait a very long time to see that happen because the REDkit won't come out before the DLCs and expansion's releases, at least, according to Mr. Monnier.

My god no, texture from community sucks every time.

The game REALLY needs a "rock and walls" texture pack, some of those are horribly bad for some reason.

How about the original textures the DEVELOPERS made before they compressed them?

Yep. The typical approach to modded textures in games is something like:
"Hey, look at this incredibly high res texture which DOESN'T MATCH WITH THE ART STYLE OF THE GAME AT ALL!"

With very rare notable exceptions, of course.

If the dev gave us the original textures they made before they compressed them, I'm sure everyone would be happy. No artist makes a blurry, compressed texture on purpose.

What about Impressionists, like Monet?

I would say ...if that is the artistic direction, then everything sould be low res and blurred.
But no, the porblem in texturization is that...there are some areas where texturing is worse than in others. Which is understandable because of the open world.
Just...see the texture rocks.

And who would provide that texture in their original size?

^^^^ Is that a screen shot of the foliage in Witcher 3? :) :) :)

I know it's not of course... but the way foliage is done in the game with 2d sprites makes the landscape look like an impressionist painting in some places. I'd really like to see a graphic pack released at some point too, I remember that Skyrim got an updated art pack for PC at some point.

I think a foliage upgrade would have the biggest impact though. The ini edits let you multiply grass and leaf density, but not make them look 3D like in Witcher 2.

I'm also a bit confused as to why lower fidelity art had to be released for PC to make the game run on consoles. I get that consoles have less RAM, etc, but if the textures can just "plug in" to the engine, why not ship a different texture pack with the PC version? If consoles can't render smoke, why not have a "UseSmoke" boolean that is locked on consoles that can't handle it? Isn't that why games have graphics settings to begin with? So you can sell to low end users, but still offer awesome visuals to high end PC owners?

Because you should make basically 2 different builds.

They do have 2 different builds. That's why Ultra on consoles is inferior to Ultra on PC. :)

This is so wrong. The Skyrim modding community have made some excellent textures that are so far ahead of the vanilla game it is ridiculous.

If the Witcher modding scene gets some of that talent it would be excellent.

Look at these two. Letho looked better in Witcher 2, I can't see why the devs can't give us the original textures for PC if we can handle them.

We'll probably see some higher quality textures once a Dx12 patch arrives, which won't be anytime soon.
