Where are the dungeons?

Where are the dungeons?

Good day!
So I'm kind of losing faith in this game because all ive seen in white orchard is simple monsters and humans to fight. Found a few sceneric areas which were nice. I'm level 5 and have gone to the next area and I'm feeling like its a bit of the same of what I've just been playing.

Then I read somewhere that there ARE dungeons( which I didn't think there were since I couldnt find 1 in white orchard and did not do any previous research on the game)

Now my question: where is one of the first dungeons? I really would like a change of scenery (although of course the game looks beautiful). Getting bored of hilly forests with simple monsters. :(

Don't get your hopes up, CDPR were never good at implementing actually interesting dungeons.

I've now found a couple caves around Velen; that's something I guess.

Now are these like you walk into an area and it loads you into another huge area (like skyrim? sorry for the comparison folks!)

or is it more like you walk into an underground part of the map without any loading

No loading. Both caves were pretty small tho.

You get to explore a pretty good one during the Hunting A Witch main quest

There are few, if any, conventional dungeons that I have seen.

But I think this is a good thing. When I think of dungeons in RPGs I think repetitiveness, cheap way to lengthen gameplay, and dragging on (we have all been in a dungeon where we find ourselves saying "when will this end?")

There was one dungeon I encountered so far involving my favorite sorceress and it found the perfect balance of length, story, and freshness. I never found myself saying great, another room of baddies I gotta kill.

Yeah I don't think there is any dungeons in the sense of a game like Skyrim. If that's what your expected you'll be disappointed unfortunately. However there are a few cool locations. One was already mentioned and I can think of at least 3 others. These arent massive areas but a few of them have interesting puzzles and sometimes a unique guardian.

There's a quest in Velen with a pretty lengthy underground "dungeon" area. What's the big deal with Skyrim dungeons anyway? Most in that game were small, and those that weren't where far too big. I got really bored with some of those areas in that game, especially when trudging through them with items for upgrading gear.

I'm actually quite happy there aren't many "dungeons" in this game, it's refreshing. Dungeons, as seen in RPGs, very much are an artificial invention originating from D&D, but in fantasy literature in general - and in Sapkowski's work in particular - such dungeons aren't common at all. Good riddance, I say.

The one dungeon I've come across so far as part of the story was really cool, much better than I expected given the sad state of dungeon design in AAA RPGs. Seems CDPR went for quality over quantity as opposed to Skyrim that went the other way around.
