I like the idea that fast travel won't be available near enemies at the least, and that could lead to storing ammo in places you expect to fight in, leading to an extended mission plan for crazier missions. Maybe you loot too much ammo, and hide it in the area as a result so that you can come back to it. I also like the idea of having to prepare for a return to a safehouse or home where stuff may have gone wrong, by stashing gear nearby that I might need. It feels like a good way in general to respond to the combat zone, where who knows what kind of shit can go down at any moment.

What if the means of building a cache was part of the game too, like we could be led to believe that a few spots are perfect for a hidden safe, concealed box, false wall, or something that lets us modify our world to some degree to build a much harder to find place to keep more important stuff, that's not in our usual base of operations?

I like the idea of building/crafting the caches in the gameworld. Also had some other idea, but took me few days to respond so forgot it already :p

I just had a thought. How funny would it be to pose as a handyman and enter peoples homes, repair stuff and plant a cache of gear without the occupant knowing? When you need your emergency cache you bust in the door, (or pick the lock,) grab your gear - new identity and all - and bail. None of your enemies would think to look for one in someone else's property!

Sounds great, but it really should be hidden well enough (inside wall or such) that the residents wouldn't find it.

Of course, it would be no good to just tape some stuff to a wall behind a picture or something.

Haha, I like trickery implied here! Hiding stuff all over the world could be a great way to recover from a loss, but also an interesting way to immerse into the game further when looking for a place to do it!

...hm.

Revisiting this topic, having gear caches in the world sounds feasible.

One of my friends is into the hobby of GPS caching. People will put a little note or a little toy someplace out in the world, sometimes cleverly hidden, and put the coordinates out for a GPS scavenger hunt, as it were.

I've also known people to do blind drops, so that they can get Item (x) to Person B, when both parties can't be in the same place at the same time.

That said, I do think this'd be a good option, if CDPR decide to implement it. =)

Though, there should be some amount of random chance that a given cache gets discovered. Led those Boosters down that back-alley, so you could get to the sawed-off you stashed away? Fantastic.

Oops! Some homeless person got to it before you could get back? No bueno. Now you're in a blind alley full of Boosters. Good luck, chombatta...

God. Can you imagine if CDPR do even 1/4 of the cool things we've thought of? Or even 1/10th? Such a game it will be.

Should start a thread on New Years Eve asking everyone to put the one idea they like best as their comment and it can't be an idea already used. Or maybe a monthly thread - this month's Best Ideas. I will do this, soon-ish.

Now, why should the cache be a random steal? I mean, if you piss off that Runner, Tech or even Fixer or Corp, why wouldn't they be able to find your cache..or re route you to a different location?

This is why I'd really like to see a upvote system soon, so CDPR can easily see the posts we the people like and snipe in on he best ideas. It would have to be troll proof though so a the guy pleading for a Easter bunny costume doesn't get upvoted because people think its funny.

Back OT, what if when enemies find your stash they booby trap it with a claymore or trip mine, then if your awareness isn't high enough when you come back... BOOM.

Hast this been covered pretty thouroughly in the safe house thread?

Even suggestions for allowing us to keep an inventory in the trunks of our vehicle(s)?

There are some games that are smarter about this issue, but I'd really love if plot items are weightless and in their own backpack or whatever. Apart from that, I don't have a problem being limited to 1 or 2 guns and maybe a spare pair of pants.

Mmm... I'm fine with plot-specific items taking up inventory / having weight, as long as there aren't any "no drop" items (the way some plot items got bugged and were forever in your inventory in Fallout 3, for example.)
