GOG.COM is the place. It's owned by CDPR so they get 100% of the moniez.

DO NOT BUY IT FROM GOG!!! Purchase it from anyone else. This way you will get the version from two vendors - GOG gives you free copy for download regardless of who you purchased it from. Better to have two copies than one. I advise you to pick up retail edition - with lots of goodies in the box.

Pretty much this.

But I bought 2 copies so people can piss off telling me "Gog is owned by CDPR".

The question was where do they get most money from, not where he could buy it on best terms.

But I am sure he will appreciate your additional valuable insights.

We know, but I am a firm believer everyone should follow common sense more than fleeting emotions, especially when money comes into equation. Buying off GOG will net him lower gains, while CDPRed will lose very little if he buys the game from another vendor (and retail version is really worth it, IMO).

I bought mine from GOG because I don't care about physical merchandise and CDPR gets more of the money.

Steam will give you a decent copy, obviously, and GOG is currently offering a free digital backup to people who buy from other sources, so you would effectively have access to two copies if you go that route. CDPR would get less of the money, though, and neither Steam nor GOG appear to be in any real danger of disappearing from the earth in the immediate future, so the one copy you can play on one machine at any given time might be all you need, especially since both distributors will let you redownload if you switch systems. Do whatever works best for you.

it makes sense to buy retail version. and then just go to GOG and input the cdkey to have digital backup. but if you dont care get GOG. downloader is super fast.

You Have many options,
Retail box - part of the profit goes to CDPR
Steam - bigger part of profit goes to CDPR
GOG.com - all your money goes to CDPR
it's your choice

This makes absolutely no sense to me. GOG doesn't have a limit on the number of times you can re-download their games--that means that you already have infinite backups. In addition, all of the money you spend goes straight to the developer when you buy from GOG, whereas if you buy it retail, not only does LESS money go to CDP, but you actually incur GREATER costs on them by using GOG's bandwidth to download your backup.

The only conceivable reason you'd want to purchase a physical copy is if you're a collector, or just really value material goods.

And don't buy from Steam. Gabe Newell doesn't need to gain any more weight.

This makes absolutely every sense because you gain two things instead of one. Say your DVD gets scratched - you can download the game from GOG. Conversely, say GOG flops, or their servers go off-line for some reason, or you currently don't have the bandwidth to download 15GB game - then you just insert your DVD and are happy with it. Two options are better than one.

Needless to say, I bought the original, unenhanced game on GOG and I deeply regret my decision - because I paid more and in the end I got less. Should have gone with the boxed version instead.

Since you can archive the GOG edition on a few DVDs or a USB stick or a portable drive, I'm not sure why you'd be concerned about being dependent on GOG.

Still, you are right; if you want the physical goods, you need to buy the physical copy, and you can always get the GOG edition for no extra cost.

Personally i'd buy on GOG, whether it costs more or not. I've had tremendous enjoyment from the game, it's been constantly updated with new content and improvements and you'll recieve a free classic game of your choice from GOG's back catalogue (I opted for Gothic 2). All of these benefits pale in comparison however to helping support one of the few developers who is not trying to arbitrarily restrict their product, or punish innocent gamers with restrictive drm and worthless dlc.

CDPR have treated me exceedingly fairly, it's only courteous to do the same in return. However the decision lies with you Cynics, welcome to the witcher forums and the games.

Let's just say the following scenario happened to me:

1). In a fanboyish craze I preordered a copy of TW2 on GOG, even though I knew it would cost me more (but let's support CDProjekt!!).

2). After downloading and installing the game GOG downloader corrupted my installation file by trying to redownload it for some reason. No I didn't get to make a backup copy.

3). Since the time of purchase I moved to another location where my Internet connection is slow.

4). The patcher of EE corrupted the gamefiles. Without proper installation file I had to download the whole thing from GOG - 15GB took 24+ hours.

5). During all that time I really wished I could have a DVD with me.

6). I realised being a fanboy is not the smart thing to do.

These are practical considerations one should take into account. And again, logic proves that even if you buy TW2 on the cursed Origin, you'd be better off than buying the game on GOG itself.

Not for me Mrowakus, i'd rather support a company that's customer focused and endure any teething troubles, thus being assured that I did my part in backing the kind of business practises i'd like to see spread across the industry. My view is a long term selfish one, that i'll admit has very little chance of being realised.

I think you left out a few bullet points, Mrowakus!

7. When I opened the window to have a smoke, a raven flew in, landed on my mid-size tower and defecated on the fan screen. My computer soon began to hiss and whirr as a wayward drop of bird-poo had landed on my motherboard.

8. This caused a spark to fling out of my desktop, landing on a small, dry clump of grass I'd accidentally tracked into the house after my afternoon jog.

9. The spark set fire to the dry grass, and the gasoline can I left adjacent to the dry grass (the jog was to get gas) soon exploded.

10. Thankfully, my neighbor was a volunteer fire fighter, and he managed to put out the flames before they spread across the house!

11. Sadly, however, my computer smelled of raven-droppings, so I threw it out and bought a 360, and I'm currently enjoying the more naturalistic lighting on the XBOX version of TW2.

Sad story, sonny. :( I hope you mommy didn't get too angry at you stealing money from her wallet for that XBOX.

In all seriousness, however - must you really be such a fanboy? I'd advise you to put down those rose-tinted glasses. I did not criticize anyone in this short post of mine, and deliberately showed the events as happened in my case to exemplify how having two copies in two sources may be a good thing. You, on the other hand, jumped on the bandwagon and attempted to gain kewl point by ridiculing... what exactly? Common sense? Logic? That one is better off getting 2 things instead of one? Me, because I lacked precognitive powers that would tell me the setup file would got corrupt, or that patching process would corrupt my game? That's pretty... immature, you know. :/

I think that the OP's question on where to buy to support the developer has been answered. Avoid comments about other forum members please.
