They reduced the mutagen drop rate pretty significantly in 1.3.
Honestly, if you want mutagens, you're going to have to do some serious farming. I've heard of people making it to the end of the game having found only one greater mutagen (and that was the greater vitality one, so maybe that drops more than the others).

There go my plans of making a run where I restrict myself to one specific mutagen - and it is not the vitality one.
Well, that happens when they listen to the players who whined about more drops than they could ever use. Since the mutagens are now usable for alchemy, they shouldn't have decreased the drop rate, because they effectively render that improvement useless. I fail to see the logic.

How about the mutagens created via the mutagen skill? My last run was an alchemy playthrough, but I didn't bother in investing in that skill. Maybe there's a higher chance of getting better mutagens with it. Did someone test that by chance?
Just for laughs I tried putting 2 points in the mutagen skill after patch 1.3. I must have made well over a thousand potions and bombs and never got a single mutagen (not even a lousy lesser one). So dont even bother wih that skill.
I wouldn't mind the extreme mutagen nerf if the developers had compensated by having a couple of the major monster bosses drop a random greater mutagen and had more of the lesser-normal type of mutagens be a USEFUL alchemy ingredient, like MORE AETHER and CAELUM instead of the extremely common ones (did we really need more rebis or vitriol sources?).

I have quite a few greater mutagens in my inventory and I am playing with patch 1.3. As of right now I have just been upgrading the swordsmanship skills and have not invested the talents anywhere else but the Impregnation skill seems very handy. Just wish there was not a level cap for the game 
Each to his own, but I found the Nekker cave just outside Flotsam to be a good source, and fairly profitable as well.
The Mutagen drop is simply a numbers game, so the more you farm, the better chance of picking up a Greater one.
Really don't know why this was nerfed down in this last patch, though - as I can't see that it was an issue at all in earlier playthroughs.

i played through, assuming I would get some greater mutagens. I only got 2.
after reading so many posts hints faqs says how great impregnation was, I thought there would be more drops of mutagens.
I just don't see the impregnation as worth it.

I agree. I stopped spending talents to get impregnation on sword/mage path after a while. You get more benefit from using the talent points elsewhere.kelticpete said:
