I think Letho will be a very valuable ally against the Hunt. He is as strong and cunning as Geralt and as a witcher of the school of the Viper a specialist concerning the Wild Hunt. And he is my bro, couldn't kill him on any of my 7 playthroughts
I killed him only once on my Roche playthrough just to see how the fight would be..but in the rest of my 8 playthroughs he's always been alive for me...exactly for the reasons you've stated. Yes Agreed! Too bad we won't get to see Shani. Would have been cool to catch up with her in Oxenfurt.
It would be awesome to see her just for everything she can contribute to the main storyline with her elven insight. I fear that she may be left out because it's so hard to make a 3D model the "most beautiful" of all.
So I just found out that it seems neither Saskia nor Iorveth are in the game.
That is very, very dissapointing for me. Saskia especially was just pure pleasure to interact with in TW2 and I replayed the game with the purpose of saving her to have that save for Witcher 3.

I'm fairly certain Shani has been hinted at being in one of the expansions. I was personally hoping I'd run into her on Triss' missions, with Shani helping the mages out. I thought that'd be a lovely way to see the two women getting over their past issues, be good character development, and having an implicit (but not overly obvious) feminist message {we can still be friends/colleagues even though we once fought over a man}.

I would love to be given the option to determine what side I picked in the first Witcher, and then to run into the characters of that side latter, for instance.
