Really it depends on what the Follow up to this is.

If the next Big DLC takes place after the ending for example the heist is an actual playable thing, well then that would require a cannon ending to give us a starting point. I doubt they would do that, as most likely any DLC would be similar to the Witcher 3 in that Geralt has an ending and the DLC takes place before the end of the main story.

So, assuming they go the Witcher 3 route with expansion/DLC. Then it really depends on the Sequel game. For example, V does not need an official Cannon Ending, Unless They are directly interacted with in some way, either playable or as an NPC, if they're just a legend people speak about it can be left open ended. However, if some other characters like Rouge are in the game It may not necessarily mean V "Needs" a cannon ending, but it would also eliminate some endings from being cannon. Depending on who does and does not survive to the sequel and who is still around Night City.

The one person who decides which ending is canon is Mike Pondsmith when he writes the official Cyberpunk 2077 sourcebook for Cyberpunk RED. But one ending has to be canon, not because of the fate of V, but because of the fates of Rogue, Adam Smasher and Arasaka.

I voted "NONE" but only since there was no 'ALL' choice.
I think that every ending is canon (at least for now) because it directly follows how your V has chosen the path to walk during her life.

If you are that Nomad that ultimately wanted to become a legend in NC, The Sun (or temperance) would be the path you walk and thus that ending is what it culminates in.

Or if you are that disgraced corpo who found a new home with the Aldecaldos and you assault Arasaka and subsequentially leave NC behind, then The Star is your culmination.

So, every ending is canon since they define you as much as how you start off as.

All of them, for each ending CDPR releases a special Cyberpunk 2080 :) *jumps of from a very sweet dream* huh? whats up?
YES please! (let the mind run wild)

I had at first found it very hard to believe they put all the work into the space station casino and the NC launch pad assets
with out any intention to use it more than was in the game we got so far.

However at this point now I will not be surprised as what ends up "canon" when we get the DLC.

I at first refused to believe it but now I am accepting they will not let us play our saved character in the DLC unless it is a prequel. As such DEATH would be the canon ending per the DEV.

Are you assuming that the DLC will take place AFTER the main story and not DURING it? Dangerous assumption.

I suspect the Canon ending will be the devil ending. It would make a lot of sense for future games. V could be brought back from being in stasis, all of the other endings would be rumours on the street which would fit with the Cyberpunk universe tendency for disinformation etc.

I just got this thought going through my head right now--anyone remember The Broken Steel DLС that changed the Fallout 3 ending completely? When your alter-ego or none of your friends didn't have to die in the end, you could instead ask Fawkes the supermutant to push the button, and everyone was alive and happy? I believe that dlc also gave an opportunity to free roam after the main quest and end titles. Before that expansion, you couldn't do that.

So I thought that it would be great if CDPR would take a look at that DLC and take some notes. That would actually help in establishing the one and only canon ending by introducing some changes in the existing ones to bring them to one universal outcome, or even introduce a completely new ending and call it canon. It may be a happy ending or a bitter ending. It's up to them. Honestly, I don't know why this idea never crosses other developers' minds: to introduce a DLC that changes the original story a bit and not just adds a couple of hours of new story and gameplay.

Because for now, all of the endings vary completely, and in case the devs would like to make an expansion after the main story, they'll have to pick one, and thus disappoint those players who picked the other one.

It's really weird, imo, to make a DLC at least Hearts of Stone length (10 hours or so) when V is literally coughing with blood and can barely stand on his/her feet BEFORE the last Nocturne mission. Not to mention that such DLC would be as long as half of the original story, which is around 20-25 hours or so.

Storming the Arasaka tower solo with Johnny and then becoming the legend of the Afterlife seems to me like a perfect epilogue tbh. The most epic and thrilling ending out there.

Having just finished each possible ending (I think), I personally felt V's suicide was my most satisfying and realistic end, based on how I'd roleplayed her in my head.
So that's MY canon ending.

No 1 specific ending is cannon bar the one which the player choses, so it can be different each time.

If in future there is dlc/expansion that expands on all/most choices currently available and leaves only 1 ending then that is cannon regardless what it does but could still differ person to person

"WHICH ENDING IS CANON?"

- Not that I choose "The Devil" for it being "canon", but more because I find it the most proper ending, as no acquaintance of V dies.
- To my accounts, "The Devil" lasts the longest.
- "The Devil" answers a lot of questions pertaining the story.
- Find the stage was set in Konpeki Plaza, and think "The Devil" ending, ending it best.
- Lastly, when deciding to return to Earth, all V acquaintances are smiling.

None of the endings is canon because the game is not canon. The game is an adventure based in canon just like any adventure in a tabletop session would be. V is not a canon character but a player character designed just for that one adventure.
