Who do you think/would you like to see appear in Orion?

+
So I think that there are quite a few characters who will obviously not be returning, being dead (sure they could be brought back via the soulkiller technology or another corporation's similar tech, but I personally think that would be corny and cheap for most characters) and quite a few characters are ending dependant, but there's definitely a few that I see definitely making a return, like Kerry Eurodyne and Viktor.

Honestly my two favourite characters in game are two I'd rather not like to see return, being Johnny for obvious reasons and Panam because I have made it my headcanon that Panam and V ride off in the sunset together to live out the rest of his life.

On a more serious note I really think that the writers will go with the new Phantom Liberty ending as it (disregarding the ham fisted dismissal of all romance options) lays a groundwork for V's background and actions in the game obscure enough to not upset people by sticking to a specific base game ending and removes the two main love interests from the equation. If that is true then I think we certainly we will see Adam Smasher who, let's face it, was done dirty with the base game. Even with his upgrade as a boss I think it is a bit of a narrative mistake to have him killed off and with Arasaka losing most of its power in the PL ending it would be interesting to see what Smasher would do in Night City now that he would likely no longer be under Arasaka's payroll.

With this in mind, I think some of the other characters that we'd most likely see in the sequel are the fixers and hopefully they would be much more fleshed out in a sequel because with the exception of Rogue, Mr Hands and possibly Wakako, they were a little under utilised in 2077, I also think it makes sense to have all the rippers make a reappearance.

I would like to see Takemura in the sequel, given that if the PL ending pans out he would be unable to return to Japan as a supposed murderer of Saburo, so it would be interesting to see where he could be taken as a character who has no connections in Night City and constantly talks about his hatred for it.

A final character that wasn't actually in 2077 but certainly had an impact on the story and is important to the series who I think would be great to be in the sequel would be Morgan Blackhand. Certainly I think the writers deliberately made slight references to Blackhand, suggesting he may be alive and around so they could potentially use him in a sequel.

Overall I do think that the sequel should focus mainly on entirely new characters with a completely new story, but at least give some nice references to a few 2077 characters as long as it isn't just clumsily thrown in just for the sake of them appearing.

I am of course assuming that the sequel will be set in a reasonably short time period after PL's ending and not 100 years in the future or something ridiculous, which I doubt they will do.

So, who would you like to see return and why?

For me it really comes down to whether V is the protagonist in Orion or not.

If V is the protagonist then, in all honesty, I'd like to see pretty much everyone who was alive by the end return. Even Fingers. Just so I can punch him again. If it's a continuation of V's story, then I would like to see exactly that.

With that said, I personally think CDPR made it abundantly clear that V's story is over. In which case then it depends on when and where the story takes place (I guess that could also apply if V is the protag). It could be in a number of places outside of Night City and it could be a year after V's story or decades later. If it's just a short time after, I'd like to see all of the same fixers come back and, for some of them, be further developed. The amount of backstory you got on them varied wildly and I would like to see some of the less explored one receive a decent story arc.

Mr. Blue Eyes is an obvious candidate, CDPR seems to intend for him to play some grand role in their games and we don't know anything about him. I'm sure they can make something interesting with him. Some more missions for Peralez could be interesting. I don't care so much about the LIs as I see them as more part of V's story and, IMO, that's over so they can disappear as well.

Honestly, I simply haven't enough to go on to be able to speculate on who might potentially feature in Orion.

Given that there's so many possibilities for the setting, with timeframe (Even if it's only a decade, a lot can happen in that time) and location not being set in stone.

I suppose Alt has the highest probability of returning given her existence being purely in Cyberspace means that time and location are a non-factor.

In regards to whom I'd like to see?

I dunno. Most of the characters I liked were intrinsically tied to V and I'd rather not get some deus ex machina to force V into future titles.

I'd also like it if any characters that could be dead also not show up again for siimilar reasons, preserving the meaning behind choices that players can make throughout 2077 by not retconning anything by having a dead character come back because an alternate choice was made canon.

Oh, I really doubt that they'll go and make The Tower ending canon in Orion. Not only that it's only achievable if you buy Phantom Liberty, it's widely hated and criticized among the fandom. And I don't think Adam Smasher should return because in the most of playthroughs he's already defeated and dead.

Who I want to return heavily depends on whether V will be the protagonist and which ending will be continued. If I assume that V will return and The Star ending will be continued, then Judy, Panam and the Aldecaldos. And if they go with King of Wands ending from PL, then I'd like to see So Mi after being cured. If we ever get to go to NC as V, then Misty, Viktor, and Mama Welles as well.

I think the character who is very likely to return, regardless of the protagonist or endings, is Rosalind Myers. She survives in all endings of PL, and yes, it's possible for her to die but only if you fail the mission, basically buying PL and giving up right away. She's a powerful leader and NUSA getting more involved in Orion instead of Arasaka, like in 2077, would be interesting and a nice change. And she's a warmonger and even invades a neutral territory and kills off bunch of civilians and corpo soldiers in a certain path of PL, so we could maybe see the consequence of her actions. I don't want her to be a classic villain, but she definitely would make an interesting antagonist in the future.

Of course, at the top of the list for me is Colonel Hansen as one of the most honest and human characters in Phantom Liberty. 🎖️
Next, the incomparable Princess Hanako, who should finally get a chance to showcase her undiscovered talent - much has been said and written about her being a talented netrunner, and at the same time, it still hasn't been revealed anywhere.
Next to her is Michiko Arasaka, who has been given, in my opinion, not enough attention in CP.
For trivia, privately... well, Meredith Stout, Tiny Mike, Maiko Maeda, Regina, Victor of course he deserves it, Georgina Zembinsky, Yoko and Mr Hands, who need to answer for all their crimes; US Cracks, or at least Blue Moon, Anders Hellman, for giving him the opportunity to do some more nasty stuff, or at least update Relic to version 2.0
For a lot of other characters, I don't have an answer, primarily because I don't understand exactly what “Project Orion” is going to be about, though I can guess.
Also, the question isn't even so much about the characters, but about the interesting and untold stories that will or won't be carried over into the new project. Will, for example, light be shed on exactly who Johnny Silverhand got the nuke from and who was actually interested in blowing up Arasaka Tower? What are Mr. Blue-Eyed's plans? Will Rosalind Myers and the N.U.S.A.'s aggression against the free Night City be stopped or not? What will happen to Silverhand if given V's body and life, will he reach the pre-hidden stash in Nicaragua? Etc.

All the endings(except suicide) can be made canon if CDPR wants to continue V's story. They can all pick up where they left off, have V cured or whatever, then they can do a time-skip or something. If you chose The Tower as your ending, then it just goes straight to the time-skip maybe...that's one way of making it work.

And unless the devs SPECIFICALLY said that V's story is done, to assume it is, is pure speculation. We know NOTHING of Orion other than it's going into pre-production.

Onto the question though. I wanna see all the characters who aren't dead make a return if it's a continuation of V's story. Kerry, Panam, Judy(she leaves Night City but could always make her way back), River, The Aldecaldos, etc. They are great characters who, like with V, I feel have more story to tell on their ends. Hell, we don't know if the relic is destroyed in any of the endings so theoretically Johnny could still be alive, either in Cyberspace with Alt or still on the biochip being held somewhere.

The thought I had on another topic...

Insert the player. Give them the field to write their name, and have them finally be themselves in the game.

It's how I play Cyberpunk 2077, except I can't have my name on it. So... make it happen.

Also, I sort of explored NC inside out, and know most of its streets by heart. Just watch all my apex racer runs through the city.
So... new city. Pls. City size is proportional to how long it takes to explore them. For me, it took some 1,000 hours to get into it. Make it 10x larger.

Lol, I don't have a problem with that since I'm V in real life  But I certainly understand you )

P.S. If you take the Temperance ending as canon, then there's no need to write your own name - now you're Johnny Silverhand :)

"Who do you think/would you like to see appear in Orion?"

First off, I hope the player, (whoever that may be), won't be forced to play the story of several different people. Not really a fan of that. But if Panam could make a reappearance as a fully matured grown woman as she's V best friend, would be awesome.

That said, if all, if not most of the main NPCs would make a reappearance and a story/assignment based on how V handled their cause in the first game, that would be fantastic.

It'd be really great if all possible endings could be continued, except for the one where V gives up and maybe The Temperance(because it's not even V anymore, physically). It's just gonna be hell of a lot more work for them... One way of making it work would be implementing each ending as a new life path system, because what V values and pursues in each ending is vastly different.

And I agree with the idea of not scraping the possibility of V's next story yet. I don't know where it comes from but there seems to be many people who keep saying that V's story is done and 'devs said so' especially these days.

As much as I want to see some of important side characters again, I also agree that if it's a continuation of V's story. It'd be a rather cheap fan service to throw in good old characters and waste them just because they're popular and people wanted to see them. Also for Judy, she ends up leaving alone in several endings but she's with female V(if romanced), Panam, and the Aldecaldos in The Star, so... would be very interesting to see their whole arcs together, if possible

It come that for some, they think V's story is finished which is as much valide as you thinking it isn't. Personally, I think V's story is done no matter the ending, I don't need to "see" V dead to come to this conclusion (and in the case of the tower ending, V is alive but unable to use any cyberware, so...)
But yes, Devs didn't say so. And I doubt they will until release or close to release :)
-------
Anyway, I don't really care... I just want CDPR to write a good story. I think there will be a subtential time jump like it was always the case for all Cyberpunk editions (2013/2020/Red-2045/2077) so at least, a decade. At the end, if CDPR decide to bring "old" CP77 characters it's fine. But as much as I loved CP77 characters, if they don't, it's fine to.
The only thing which I would "hate", it's if they pick up one ending as canon, it's would be terrible... But that's all :)

Also for Judy, she ends up leaving alone in several endings but she's with female V(if romanced), Panam, and the Aldecaldos in The Star, so...
Oh yeah, the Star ending. I'm gonna test the game to see what it'll do if you choose that ending and both Panam and Judy romanced. Probably soft-lock.

Yeah, of course. I was only saying that it isn't right for them to say that V's story is over as if it's a solid fact. At this point, we don't know what CDPR has in store. And as much as I wanna play as V again, I want that only if our choices will be respected and they'll do V and prominent side characters justice.

And I'd like CDPR to respect different endings as well, whoever the protagonist is and whatever the worldstate would be. Especially since Phantom Liberty release, I end up seeing more and more people saying The Sun/Don't Fear the Reaper has to be the canon ending because of Mr. Blue Eyes and his possible future involvement. And as much as he's interesting, I would be very much against that, because I have no love for that ending, Mr. Blue Eyes or not

Hmm. I connected with V, that is why i want her to succeed.

In my mind, she's done it. Woke up in an Adam-Smasher-ey body on a table, mark or two above what Adam had. All tech onboard, pneumatic arms and legs, targeting systems, lasers, missiles, cloak, etc. Reflexes measuring in nanoseconds vs. normal human reaction time in hundreds of millseconds. All of it! She broke the walls of the vacant place where she woke up, called her Cali, drove off into the night, and continued to own the streets of NC. I have a solid design idea for a video that depicts it, and want this music to go with it.

That is why I don't mind starting anew in Orion/Vigilancer. CDPR created a story that left to my imagination what happened during and after the Crystal Palace raid. Oh, maman, I haven't only ransacked the place, I drove my Caliburn in it until only dust remained.

Summa summarum, V has become the real immortal, unlike the puny Saburo, still curled up on the floor in that room at Konpeki Plaza. No one is out of reach, and especially those in the Crystal Palace learned that lesson the hard way as the thing burned up in the atmosphere (not V, just the palace).

"If it doesn't want to sink on its own, it's time to rip off its engines and strap them the right way for some extra downwards force."

I'm a noob here and have just finished my second play-through of CP77 PL. One thing I'd like to say before I get to the gist of my post is that having multiple endings in a RPG kind of muddies the waters when coming up with a proper sequel. Which ending do you continue from or do you just forget the old characters and start fresh. In a game like this the player builds relationships with certain characters and I believe that most of them would love a continuance of those relationships.

So far I've played as male V and romancing Panam. I really enjoyed the interactions with Judy also but, was sort of saddened when she just left. But, the character I really made a connection with is So Mi (aka: Songbird). She is pretty much in the same boat as V and has become so desperate to heal and free herself from the shackles of Myers, Reed and the FIA that she's willing to lie to V to attain that goal since they only just met. She eventually comes to trust V and tells him the truth.

My reasoning as to why this didn't really bother me is that V empathized with her. He desperately wants to survive as does she. She's also very remorseful about all the people she hurt while under the control of Myers and the FIA. That was also an attraction to her.

So, with that longwinded preface, this is how I'd like to see the sequel (or even as another DLC/expansion of CP77 PL) turn out. V is back in Night City and receives a text from Viktor stating that he has told Zetatech to go F*** themselves and that he needs to meet privately with V asap. Once they meet he reveals to V that he had saved his previous scans and reviewed over and over and found that V can have all of his cyber prosthetics afterall. It seems the FIA attached a sort of block on V's operating system that would always give a false response to any scans or any attempt to reactivate them or add new cyberware. With the help of Nix (and/or others maybe) he is able to hack and remove it which will also give V the opportunity to heal and... live.

After a short while (V is now living in Misty's old place) he hears a knock on his door. Upon opening he is floored to see So Mi standing there. He stammers and stutters as to how, etc. She not only is completely healed but all her older cyberware is completely removed from her back and the back of her head. Through multiple contacts (and a few fellow FIA haters) she received newer, cutting edge technology that could be installed internally and operate much more efficiently and she looks beautiful. She also learns that V is on his way back, too and that he also has a newfound hatred for Rosalind Myers and the FIA. It is at this point that So Mi reveals why she came back to V. Aside from those that helped her heal and upgrade, V is the only one she trusts. She wants to go after them full throttle and wants to know if V would like to join her in their quest to destroy the FIA and humiliate Myers. She also reveals that during her healing process she admits that she believes she has fallen in love with V (they become romantic and I believe this could also work if you happen to play as a female V). V tells So Mi that he too, has deep feelings for her and holds no ill will toward for lying to him. They become romantic.

The game then kicks into high gear as they prepare for their soon-to-be merciless onslaught against Rosalind Myers and the FIA. V and So Mi are both infuriated as to how manipualtive and powermad the FIA and Myers are they both come to the conclusion that to finally feel (somewhat normal again) they must take them out. Once. And. For. All.

They could still implement Panam, Judy, Misty, et al into the storyline. V could be disillusioned with Panam after her selfish temper tantrum and Judy could do a lot of the computer work and Misty could give moral and philosophical support.

V and So Mi together again better than ever and in love. About to wreak havoc and give Myers and the FIA all the chaos they so richly deserve!

That's the next Cyberpunk I'd love to play in the near future. What say you?

I'm in a mad dash to get to 10 posts so I can start threads. So, that's why I'm adding this in a new post instead of editing my previous one.

They could also bring back Johnny Silverhand as a very helpful AI. He could suddenly appear in an email where V is staying with the message for him to turn his speakers on. Heeeeere's Johnny! He could send V texts with helpful hints and other support.

Call Keanu and get him back on the payroll, stat!

Yennefer. I'm in favor of Yennefer appearing in any future games made by CDPR.

People I don't want to see appear: Saburo Arasaka. He scares me.

Other than that, I don't care.

As much as I'd like to see Songbird, Myers, NUSA involved in the sequel(especially IF we get to play as V again), I don't really see why V and So Mi would want to go after Myers, FIA and NUSA unless there's a good reason for that. Personal anger and hatred towards them don't justify risking their AND others' lives all over again. That is, unless Myers wants to personally order FIA and NUSA to go after V and So Mi after the damage they caused her. I do think So Mi and Myers have a great potential to add to the plot and universe, however. It's just that So Mi can die in one ending and she could be locked from reappearing.

Also I know Songbird as a possible romance option has popped up often ever since Phantom Liberty, but my opinion is that it's better for both V and So Mi if they never become a thing. As much as I enjoyed So Mi's character and sympathized with her and that's why I helped her in the end, she manipulated and lied to V way too often. Caused too much hurtings and I know she 'didn't have a choice', so to speak, but there's no guarantee that she won't ever do it again. She put herself before V and everyone else, and it's because she was in a seriously desperate situation, sure. But I don't see how healthy they can be. Just thinking that she's better off as a potential returning ally and friend, if you helped her to get cured.

I'm strongly inclined to think that the Night City we see in the Tower ending of Phantom Liberty will be the setting we'll see in Orion. Night City will be partly familiar, partly new in depth, width and complexity...seeing all the differences will be part of the fun. I don't think V will make an appearance...he/she will just be a legend at the Afterlife. However pretty much all the secondary characters from 2077 will still be alive...I'd love to see Rogue again, and I really want to know what's going on with River and Panam...the situations they suggest at the end of Tower seem too particular and mysterious to be throwaways. Kerry has had big changes; Judy is married and living away from NC, but who knows?

Otherwise I think we will see a new cast of lead characters in a new story, like Edgerunners. This next Netflix anime will probably give us some hints about what Orion will be like...
