Why are all TW3 screenshots oversharpened and aliased?

What is the deal with that?
I accept that the game still runs under DX9 old renderer, and new DX11 is about to be implemented, but why are all the screenshots released so far so bizzarely oversharpened, full of aliasing artifacts?

They look great from art/assets perspective, but absolutely horrible from Image Quality perspective.

CDP, can you please release some actual normal looking, antialiased nonoversharpened screenshots, so we can have an idea how the game will actually look? Because I can guarantee it will not look like this. Witcher 2 looks better than this.

why don't you take a look at the official screenshots posted in the media section?

That second screenshot in particular actually enforces the question.

I agree.

There are quite a few oddities in these screens but there's always the chance the outdated renderer and some rogue post-processing are to be blamed.

I'm holding all judgements until I get to see the new renderer in action, preferably some footage.

Sure, I believe the new renderer will fix things, but I do have to question the strategy of posting promo screenshots that look considerably worse than TW2.

Sometimes things have to get worse before they get better?

Well, they did the same with TW2, releasing beta footage and screens. I'm not sure it's the best tactic but it's not unprecedented for them.

The renderer is specially useful for making an image look way more realistic and soft like in a movie.

Also the witcher uses very high res textures and reflections wich makes the game look sharpened or aliased when the whole range of postprocessing effects arent applied yet.

Effects like the fire arent affected by anti aliasing except for superampling, wich is the reason why objects in games might be soft and perfect but when a strong enough light sources hits them the "aliasing" appears.

The only thing i use the screenshots released so far for is to see the designs, for graphics they are way too far from the final version to jugde i think.

Huh nice catch. Your eyes are like an elfs' eyes!

I guess they're just tweaking some screenshots in order to represent what the game will look like when it finally goes gold. It's just PR stuff done in order to give people an idea of what their vision is. I guess?

Still, it looks great to me :) Honestly, I'm not even kidding, It looks absolutely spectacular. If they announced that they're releasing the game tomorrow, I'd buy it in an instant. But alas, there's still some time until that joyous day.

some studios do it for controversy like how Hitman Absolution said they got a new VA to replace Bateson and close to launch they revealed he'd reprise his role.

either that or they were like "fuck it" nobody cares as long as we deliver the final stuff on E3.

Just compare this official CDP provided picture of Witcher 2

With the ones I posted in OP.

No question that Witcher 2 looks better.

I have NO DOUBT that Witcher 3 will look much better than Witcher 2, despite the fact that Witcher 2 already looks like next gen game, pretty much.

But I do question the sanity of releasing screenshots that looks so bad (not from art, but from image quality perspective), full of aliasing and oversharpening. It just makes no sense.
Apply some antialiasing next time, CDP, ok ?

Yeh CDP sure has some weird strategy going on by showing us how the game wont look like :D.Screens are under dx9 and its known that the game wont even support dx9 anymore. But im sure it will look awesome by the end :).

So you would rather have nothing?

It's not even beta, I think at this stage you could call it alpha and it's a good thing CDPR released them instead of keeping us in the dark.

So accept them as they are and stop the complaints or we will get less.

I have doubts actually. There is no way they could possibly keep high standarts while making game over 20 times bigger.

Seriously??!?!?!
It was stated when they were released that these screens werent using TW3 renderer but the old TW2 one and should not be considered representative of the final game. They were only to indicate the art direction and show a sneak peak of things to come but were not an indication of thae actual game Image Quality.

Come one, stop with the nonsense. No, I would not rather have nothing. Because this is not "This or nothing" situation.
They could easily apply some form of antialiasing and lower the weird sharpening filter. Hell, they could just apply SweetFX to it and it would do the job itself. Witcher 2 early screenshots did not have this problem either.

I hate this "Shut up and stop complaining" kind of attitude, especially when it makes no sense. CDP is not going to stop releasing screenshots just because people point out those screenshots look worse than they could.

I am a fan of CDP, doesn't mean I cannot point out unnecessary flaws.

As I said repeatedly, this is not a matter of DX9 or DX11 renderer. Even early Witcher 2 screenshots did not have these image quality problems.

Complaining about a game or a company is all well and good when it's legitimate, but complaining about graphical quality of screenshots we got in ALPHA is just a bullshit attitude especially when they've stated they are working on the new renderer.

I mean really does anyone wonder why developers are unwilling to show us anything before the very late stages when people like you will just bitch about how the graphics suck?

It's ALPHA and they still have a lot of work to do.
