They really are pretty grown up boys and probably know about girls? The secrets they were guarding so very carefully was the mutation process and the mutagens themselves.
"Explained"? I'd say she shouted at them and called them names until they opened up their eyes and understood the error of their ways. Which was pretty hilarious.The thing is the witchers don't really know how to raise a young girl. They trained her because they weren't sure what to do with her and reckoned that swordfighting skills might prove useful in these troubled times.By the way, if there were any female witchers around I suspect the Witcherland would be a much more violent place.
