It's on the Redkit site. The only reason you would need it is to run Redkit-made mods.

The game launcher automatically installs it (3.4) as I discovered yesterday. Under Win8 x64, suddenly, I'm getting lots of crashes to desktop. I wonder if 3.4 has anything to do with that. I've reinstalled the game and reapplied the patches, and tried every compatibility mode--and the CTD's come regularly. Almost every time I try to save a game I am dumped to the desktop--weird, though, as the autosave completes (!) so I can fire up the game again and load an autosave just where I attempted to save. Hmmmm....I'm going to see if turning off autosave makes any difference....

I was thinking I could turn off autosave...but I guess not...Got booted out again...now I'm wondering if it's Windows update somehow--I have that set to notify but not to download...don't have a problem with other games, though...

Okay...that's pretty much it--the game is suddenly unplayable for me--keeps throwing me back to the desktop. Tried everything I can think of and nothing works...I really wanted to finish this game...

Any suggestions? Or is the game simply incompatible with Win8Pro x64?

Back again...;)/> Seems like something else I thought of is working--I'm playing in a window right now and so far everything is functioning normally. It seems as if the problem is the full-screen mode. I'll get back here if that suddenly changes...

Game has been fine for me on Windows 8 Pro x64 and patch 3.4. I think the forums would have heard of it a lot more often if it was a general problem with Windows 8.

Something's clearly interfering with the game, and it's on your computer and not just everybody's. Were you using anything like the .NET fix before?

I've not had any problems with .net, and I'm running the Gog version of the game. It's something odd that's affecting the full-screen version of the game right now--and I agree that it's on my system. Running in a 1920x1200 window the game runs fine. I had run the game under 7x64 full-screen without any such problem, so this has got me stumped.

Whenever (95% of the time) I save a game manually (full-screen) I'm thrown out of the game and the game simply disappears from ram. About 10% of the time (full-screen) the game just dumps me out on the desktop without rhyme or reason. Switch to windowed mode and it never happens. And it's only with this game. I'll keep looking and if and when I discover the culprit I'll come back and write it up so that maybe someone else with a similar problem will be inspired...! Meanwhile, if anything should occur to you I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Two things come to mind when being thrown to desktop . Are you playing the game with another text language other than English text ? Is your video card overclocked ?

No, and no, unfortunately. It's very strange and I'm still looking for answers--windowed, no problem at all! Full-screen is nigh unplayable at the moment. I keep thinking it's some little thing I'm overlooking. Thanks for the suggestions--I'll keep on looking.

Thought I'd check in...still no luck figuring out the full-screen problem. Haven't given up yet, though I will be playing in a full-sized window, it looks like. Any other suggestions occur to anyone?

For Guy & Tommy...at first I was convinced it was something weird in my system, but I had a little more time tonight and after looking up the issue it actually seems fairly common among Witcher 2 players:

Here's a link to a Steam discussion on the matter...

...So, I'm off to try a few more things...!

Just checking in as I hate to leave things dangling...problem is solv-ed, as Clouseau would say!

Don't really know how or why, which is a tiny bit aggravating as I like to know these things. I installed the W2 combat mod, turned on ubersampling, turned off fsaa...and, I think, turned vsync on.

No more CTD's for any reason--just like had always been the norm before. Can't seem to even *make* the game CTD.

BTW--game is incredibly gorgeous under ubersampling--just beautiful. What an inspired graphics option. SO glad my present gpu supports it with ease.
