why so long on cat and torches??!!

I don't know about everyone else, but I just can't see the logic behind sending you into dark places, "BEFORE"you get full access to the cat formula, or torches, or whatever. This really takes away from the game. I don't find it amusing to have to "feel" your way around in dark areas, especially so early on in the game. If it was somelate-game hard challenge of a dungeon....I could live with that.....but chapter one??!! Yes, I realize that this is nota major thing to some people, but what makes it stand out even more...is something that is written right on the game box: It talks about a vast world that is "BELIEVABLE". Now, if things are supposed to be so believable...then ask yourself this question: If you were about to go into a dark cave, would you just go waltzing in there without something to help you find your way? I'm sorry, but I just cannot see the reasoning behind this.I have been into rpg's since the stone-age days of SNES, and even in those antiquated little games, you always had access to the proper tools of exploration "BEFORE" you had to do the actual exploration. Fighting monsters, casting magic, etc. is fun (afterall, that's what rpg's are all about)....but it starts to suck, when you have to do it in the dark.

This makes me wonder, really. If you are an experienced rpg-player, you know that it is a good idea to look into chests, barrels, houses... In the first chapter you get the information right in the beginning that you should talk to the reverend: In the surrounding of the church you'll find more torches you'll need in the whole game.Besides Torches are not the best choice. You learn in the intro that a witcher uses alchemy. What prevents your Geralt from learning Alchemy early in the game (INT lvl 2, herbalism, one or two books, ready)? If you insist to abandon your Geralt in the dark: o.k., it's your choice. The game doesn't force you to do so.

I don't understand a problem. First place, where cat or torch is needed is a crypt in the Outskirts (Act I). Formula for cat potion Geralt gets from Triss in Prologue.

I actually did this with a torch, and although it wasn't so practical it still worked better than I thought. It says the damage is 1-2 or something like that, but I still managed to kill off the enemies using the torch.Cat vision is miles better. Though I don't like that there is some tear on the sides of the screen when it's still active and you're in light places. I suppose I could take something to kill the potion, but I usually don't bother with that.

But you DON'T have to do it in the dark. Geralt gets "The Book of Swallow" at the end of the Prologue, which gives him the forumlae for White Gull, Swallow, Cat, and Blizzard.

Actually, I think there's a particular conversational path that results in Triss' teaching Geralt the forumla for Cat, so it's possible to miss it. But even if the player doesn't get it there, Geralt DOES get the formula in "The Book of Swallow."

I really don't see the problem here. The mission is piss-easy even without seeing anything.
