Why W2 is better than DA2

Ok, many will say of cause it is, but let me explain.

Up until early this year I had not played any of the DA titles or Witcher 1.

I bought DA2 because I was a fan of MA1 & 2. I really enjoyed DA2 and played it 5 times, one after the other.
Then I thought its time to give it a rest and try something else.

So I searched the game titles for something new, there were lots of "expectations" in the press for something called Witcher 2 which would be released shortly. It looked interesting, so I preordered from GOG. GOG where also selling W1 for $5! so I thought what the hell give it a go while I'm waiting for W2, well I was really impressed with W1.

When W2 finally arrived I was blown away (luckily I didn't suffer any of the bugs that plagued others) it really was the best game I'd ever played and have played it ever since many times.

When Bioware released the DA2 DLC Legacy last month I thought time for a change and bought it, and played it. It was enjoyable and well worth the money. This meant I was back playing DA2, but I wasn't after finishing Legacy I just couldn't be bothered playing DA2 again or EVEN finishing off the last playthrough I started. W2 just beckoned for another playthrough.

So there you have it. I wont go into why w2 is better, in my oppinion it just is and the fact that even after going back to DA2 and enjoying the new content I just couldn't be bothered to replay it. I'll certainly buy DA3 when it comes out but I suspect that W3 will still be better.

imo, both witcher games have a superior combat system that brings you closer to the action. i'm playing through DA:O right now, and while the writing is pretty good, in general, the animations/combat aren't doing much for me.

I don't see why we should compare the two, everyone knows what DA2 is - a lot of fans like me who really enjoyed DA:O have specific feelings about this "sequel". Obviously The W2 should be compared to the best RPG's in the last decade not games like DA2 which have a lot of issues which great games no longer have(recycled maps; little customization; linear story line; ninja waves of opposition etc)

Why not? As I said I'd never played DA:O ; DA:A or W1 I didn't no anything about them. I played DA2 and really enjoyed it, then I played W1 & W2. W2 was just awsome.

I know a lot of DA fans have tons to say about DA2 I'm not one as I've never even looked at it. I was just commenting on W2 and DA2 from someone who as no "baggage" so to speak.

You sound like someone looking for decent games--so it is difficult to believe you haven't played DA:O by now! Do yourself a favor and get it--now! If you like RPG's you will surely like DA:0.

It's remarkable to see companies like Bioware managing to get so much right with DA:O only to ruin the franchise with something like DA2. Unbelievable stupidity. I was afraid that CDPR was going to do something like that with W2--but they didn't, thank goodness...;)

I second that. DA:O - despite its graphics and model design being sub-par - is a fantastic, classic-flavoured, strategical action RPG. The story and characterisation are quite good, overall, but it's the amazing combat that kept me playing for several playthroughs. Fiddling with equipment and tactics to employ, were a joy to do, and the actual feel of the combat is really good. There are also tons of mods available at the Nexus, to further customise and tailor your experience to your personal taste. What Bioware did with the sequel, is unbelievably tragic; it's still a decent game, and quite fun to play to some extent, but for completely different reasons. It's not the same series any more - I'd be much more content viewing it as a heavily "consolised" experimental spin-off with several incomprehensible design flaws.

yes as said above if your a fan of RPGs or even good games DA:O (and subsequently DA:A and all its dlcs) is a must
and since your a fan of ME too, ME3 will be a like DA:O (which involves gathering help of civilizations and races a whole for a BIG war with everything at stake, much larger aspect as to gather a squad for the suicide mission in ME2)

coming to the witcher universe, you need no words as you yourself got the 'experience' yourself :)
though dragon age and Mass Effect (better of the two and best of bioware, imo) stand in their own place, unless a miracle occurs I dont think any other RPG (and in most cases any game) will beat TW in the near future because (almost) everything is so well made

I totally agree with this I am a big fan of both companies but DA 2 is to different to compare it with TW 2 and they have different fandoms. TW 2 is an action rpg, you can only play with one gender and you have no companions, all this things are the strong points of DA 2. If I was force to compare TW 2 with a game, the close to it would be deus ex human revolution, TW 2 would win this battle :p

It's funny that people argue a lot about tw vs. da on forums.

I'd say there's probably a huge overlap in fanbase for the two, because the two are both really good RPGs. If I to be forced to pick between say, a third da game or a third witcher game, i'd probably go with the witcher one. The main reason being I'm not interested to find out what happens in the witcher world than in the dragon age world. That being said, both are really fantastic games, there are some differences but in a lot of ways I think they are good for the *same* reasons. There aren't that many great, well polished fantasy RPGs being released.

Strangely enough, despite I tried very hard, I could never get my eyes out of the many flaws of DA2. The worst being obviously the very repetitive combat, the ninja wave of ennemies coming from strictly nowhere (only a few monsters, like the spiders, made a bit of sense), and also the fact that I had the feeling to always fight always the same monsters (the bestiary is terribly bad, not enough monsters to make it fun), + of course the copy pasted donjons. That being said, it means if you could enjoy DA2, DA:O will be a blast for you. Everything is more epic in DA:O, the combat makes more sense, and they are also way more fun (fatality ftw), and more tactical.
So, let's be honest, give it a try, naoh :)

DA 2 is the worst bioware game ever made. It cannot compete with any of the game they created. That's sad, but I would doubt a lot of regular bioware fan were happy with this game. The new fan, maybe (those who discovered Bioware with Mass Effect for instance) but any RPG player who has played and enjoyed Planescape Torment/Baldur's Gate, may have enjoyed Dragon Age : Origins, and Mass Effect series, but never they could enjoy DA 2 :)

Both Witcher games are superior to the DA series for a number of reasons, but mainly because they are more unique and original. DA uses way too many high fantasy cliches that makes the main story elements timeworn and familiar. DA:O was good, despite the very uninspired level design. It had great characters. I played the DA2 demo and so never bought that game.

"I really enjoyed DA2 and played it 5 times"
God I wish I had that much free time.
On the other hand, I would have to be lobotomized to consider playing that PoS more than once.

I couldn't even finish one runthrough of the dumbed down, pointless, linear and moronic rise to apathy that was Dragon age 2. Allfather knows how bioware managed to produce a game where the protagonist does nothing but slaughter endless waves of parachuting ninjas while affecting the plot not one iota, and every choice that doesn't fit into the developers vision is discarded and invalidated within five minutes of being made.

And the worse thing is this pile of crap has the temerity to insist it's an innovative and personal story when you can't even get to know the "family" they've foisted on you or talk to any of the companions outside of their cutesy inane quests that suprise suprise are resolved through yet more waves of "awesome" button combat, and it's not innovative to play an idle loser who's too weak willed and stupid to change any outcome of the game whatever binary illogical choice he makes but just has to wait around and slaughter a few more hordes of sword fodder.

As i've said before the white wolf chews up and spits out the hawke, a cunning, proactive and potent hero rather than a three response loser who for some reason turns all his companions bisexual by his very presence, yeah really deep characterisation there.

Bioware wake up and stop making the turd souffles, take some lessons from cdpr and cook up some hearty and meaty dishes that really satisfy rather than the demographic chasing interactive movies.

Well as suggested I've gone and ordered DA Ultimate Edition from Amazon. £12 for DA:O; DA:A + all DLC so not too bad.

the only complaint i have about witcher 2 is there werent enough monster contracts compared to 1. i just loved fighting all the nude female vampires from the first game, what a rush i got, especially that classy whore house vampire in the merchant district in vizima she can suck my blood anytime if a dlc is released for witcher 2 i hope it has more monster contracts, on the other hand DA 2 HAD SOME COOL COMBAT and team dynamics and improved visuals and thats all there is to it, everything else is a step backward for the series. IF there was no DA:O to campare it to and if DA 2 was made by some other company the game's flaws would have been tolerated.... but too bad BIOWARE better take a couple of pointers from CD PROJEKT RED on how to make a worthy sequel and most importantly how NOT to make a sequel OR ELSE FACE THE WRATH OF THE FANS

The problem is there is a lot of fans praising DA2 as it is, so they still make money on it. Hence they will keep making them

For compared to DAO, DA2 was a step backwards in many things

Bioware shouldn't copy CDPR, what they should do is take more time to make a good core story with some god dammit new environments. People seem to forget that the good things about bioware are the customization of your character and the companions, which are the positive point of the game. I do not get the hate for the bisexual characters, at least they did no give me some strange vibes that "we hate gays" and I got that vibe from TW 2, hope it isn't true.

By the way the TW lore is as cliche as DA, people outside of some countries in Europe are just not use to that kind of thing and find it new of course but I do like the moral system of TW a lot more.
