Why would I need a backup copy?

Seems pointless since steam is capable of making backup copies lol gog.com?

Dear Einstein,

Answer is simple: because not everyone bought TW2 on Steam.

Easy, steam is drm and gog is no drm. Also gog is better service.

That was hilarious Aver. As for your question mattyuno7, I used the backup copy, and gog has this downloader that lets you pause and resume the download, which is great because its over 15 GB since its the EE. The backup copy is good if you ever find yourself on a different computer, out of state, you lose the original CD you bought, whichever the scenario may be be, you can redownload it at anytime. There is no limit to how many times you can download it. I myself bought the premium edition last year before the EE came out, and I got a free upgrade to EE just by registering my copy on gog, which was awesome. Like Aver said not everyone buys their games on Steam, I myself like to keep a physical copy of any game I buy, and I still have the original game copy. Oh and the gog version also comes with like tons of extra stuff you can download like art books and other things. So yeah, there is a very good reason why someone would want a backup copy.

Simple difference - GOG doesn't use any DRM, Steam does. I don't use Steam because of that.

Maybe there's a secret trollish website where the trolls all decide which forum to hit on any particular day.

As a Steam customer?

Firstly, because for this game, you can't keep a local backup copy of the Steam version, so if I ever need to reinstall, I'd be faced with a 14-hour download first.
Secondly, because Steam forces updates on you whether it's convenient or not, unless you stay permanently offline. And if you DO stay permanently offline, you miss out on any benefit the Steam version has.

I like Steam, but for the Witcher games, I prefer the non-Steam version.

You can pick and choose which extras you want to download instead of all of it in one huge chunk. Plus art books.

I prefer the Steam version since it lets me take screenshots, but the backup copy is much appreciated.

Not to go off topic or anything but if you decide to use the GOG version then EVGA Precision ,MSI AFterburner , or Fraps will let you take screenshots as well .

One website offers a DRM-free version of the game plus a truckload of extras, including a high quality artbook, while the other offers an always-on DRM minus the extras? In what world is this even a competition?

- Excuse me sir, would you like to be jailed and have your liberty carefully controlled today, or would you rather go about your day as you wish and take with you this care package full of excellent items you like?

I'm not (fully) bashing Steam. I am a Steam user and I like it. But against GOG.com, there is simply NO competition.

"LOL" back at the OP.

Or even just put W2 in your non-steam games list and use the steam overlay to take pics :)

So many replies in troll thread, amazing. Why mods don't just lock it?

Because regardless of whether or not the OP thought it was pointless, it's still a valid question (And one that gets asked regularly over at the Steam forums too. With similar answers.)

And because we also need odd and strange topics occasionally to laugh a little and lighten the atmosphere ;)

Simple: sound track, art book, comic, wall papers, concept art, and the Triss Playboy shoot.
