hi everyone, I'm reading this forum for some weeks and finally deciced to register to share a article about the witcher 3.
Gamestar (biggest pc gaming magazine in germany) met with game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz and talked about the Witcher 3 with him. They made a 4 pages article about it in their newest print outlay.
I dont know if these informations are all new, but at least there are some new informations for me so i will share them. I hope my english is good enough.
- at the moment they are debating if there will be the possibility to continue playing after the end of the story. If they decide there wont be this possibility, we will get a warning before the "point of no return".
- the story isn't divided into acts like in witcher 1 or 2
This is a huge challenge for the developers, because they have to make sure that the mainstory stays interesting so the player continues with it and doesn't do "open world stuff" form the beginning(like in skyrim). So they will be permanently a common theme, even during most of the sidequests.
In the first part of the mainstory Geralt is pursueing a certain goal. To reach this goal he has to collect information at different areas of the world. So you will do a tour at the beginning of the game to get to know the world. (Konrad didn't want to tell what this goal is, but Gamestar assume that Geralt follows rumours about the Wild Hunt burning down a village)
So while Geralt is hunting the Wild Hunt, he learns something about the different areas, talks to citizens about ghost rumours, searches for witnesses and stumbles about sidequests. The mainstory isn't linear, so Geralt will always have different ways to reach his goal. In this case how to get the informations about the Wild Hunt. This is how the main storyline and central sidequests are entangled with each other within a region. For example if Geralt saves a village from a monster attack after doing some sidequests the cititizens of this village will show Geralt where to find a survivor of the Wild Hunt attack. But the player has also the possibility not to kill the monster and search for other ways to find the survivor.
- Tomaszkiewicz gives a example about choices you have to make.(but he doesn't want to spoil anything) Some of them will be even bigger (referring ti the impact on the world) then the choices in witcher 1 and 2.
There is a kingdom. The king of this kingdom died. Several successors are trying to become the new king. Geralt can choose one of them and help him/her to reach his/her goal. This will affect the whole kingdom and following quests. But Geralt can also choose to avoid any politic decisions.
Geralts choices wont only affect the world but also the process of the story and future quests. Konrad is calling this "Adaptive Quests" and recalls witcher 2 ending of act 2, where you are either the attacker or defender of Vergen depending on your choice at the end of act 1.
- there will be 36 different endings
- they are working with a bigger team then in witcher 2.
- Witcher 3 will start some months after witcher 2. The plot of Witcher 3 will last several months. It's possible there will be time jumps.
- you will meet old friends like rittersporn (i think his name is different in the english version- its the bard) and zoltan. Depending on your choices in witcher 2 characters will react differently towards Geralt. For example Iorveth could be grateful or angry.
-Yennefer will play a big role.
-We will meet Emhyr van Emreis
-The Gamestar guy asked if Ciri will make a apperiance. Konrad answered "I cant reveal it now" (sounded like a yes according to Gamestar)
- They talked about the fighting system. But I don't think there were any new informations. (rolling wont be important, more animations)
- better ki for the enemys. Wolfs attack in packs. Monsters will have individual tactics and talents.
- sword, signs and alchemy will be the skilltrees. Instead of boring percentbonus ( dont know if this word exists in english) we will get more often new active skills.
- there will be special sidequests, where we will learn more about the witchers and search for mighty equipment.
