Will I be able to play The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on my PS4 being completely offline?

I would really like an answer from one of the developers or someone who know about this question. I just learned that you have to be online all the time to play Destiny on PS4, ven when playing the single player campaign.

Now the thing is: I am completely offline on my PS4. Will The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt require me to be online to play the single player sampaign or any online activation at all, or will I be able to pop the game in being compltely offline and play it. Basically it is really important for me to know if I have to be online at any point to play this game or if I can play it right from the get go like any game released so far on PS3 and Xbox360?

I don't see why not. It's not a multiplayer game like Destiny at all since Destiny is based on being in that world with other people whether you're playing on your own or not (single player and multiplayer are the same, it's just up to you if you want to group up). You're not sharing the TW3 world with people like you are in Destiny.

I know that and this is my most anticipated game in years so I really just want reasurence that I don't have to be online at all to play the game. Not even an online activation. I am completely offline on my PS4 and don't plan to go online any time soon. Will I be able to play this game right from the get go, just by popping the disk in not being online or doing any online activation?

CDPR has a no DRM policy so I'd be extremely surprised if you had to. I think it's safe to say you won't have to go online to start the game. :)

I wouldn't recommend playing any game completely offline anymore these days. Even if you can play them, you really don't want to since a lot of games rely on day 1 patches to get rid of some nasty and even game breaking bugs. Open world RPGs more so than others I think.

This, patches are a necessity for games this large.

Also, AC4 on PS4 was patched to run @ 1080p native vs the 900p resolution out of the box. So yeah, I'd say having an internet connection nowadays is pretty much mandatory for even SP gaming.

I'm afraid you are not going to get a final answer any time soon. Yes, it's possible to make an educated guess, but I'm afraid a final answer requires the game to be closer to its release (February).

We knew destiny will be online from the beginning because Bungie, it's developer said it will be a multiplayer game with a story that you can complete on your own (if you so desire). It's still closer to an MMO than it is to a Single Player FPS game though and as such, all of its underlying systems require an active connection to the servers.

The Witcher 3, as far as we know will not contain any multiplayer component at all. But this could change (For example the developer may choose to include a score leader board for players to compete in). That still should mean no requirement for a persistent online connection to play any of the Single Player content, but it's impossible to promise that no online activation will be required. As that may be needed for a variety of non gameplay related things.

EDIT: Again i'd like to stress that this is merely a guess. However I doubt that the developers have a more comperhensive answer at this time.

I thought Sony had confirmed there would be no online requirement for games. At any rate, this is a question for them, not CDPR.

Yes please ask around and get back to me I would appreciate that very much. In Witcher 2 on pc each time ypu started the game up you could't play the game, before the latest patch was installed. I am just worried that this game will require you to be online eahc time you start the game up, to download the latest patches(this should be a choice) and that it will requiere an online activation or something. I would really appreciate it anyone( a developers perhaps) could answer if you will be able to play this game, while being completely offline. Thanks!

well..if your PS4 is offline the whole time, it won´t even notice that there is anew patch.
Also on PS3 you could choose whether to install a patch or not.
I´m 100% certain that you dont have to be online tbh.
If that is smart is another question

Technically you should but playing an RPG without patches(or any game these days) is most definitely NOT a good idea and there most certainly will be patches for the game, maybe even a Day 1 because of how it goes these days - game has to be submitted for certification on consoles that takes ~a month and can fail and need to be resubmitted after changes which is another month and then another month after that for game 'going gold'(mass producing copies) and all of this has to be adjusted in the schedule.

So once CDPR submit the game for the cert process in ~November I would guess, they'll start working on fixing whatever bugs they can find and all that will be included in a Day 1 patch I would presume(obviously not official). The game could be "playable" completely offline but there might be gamebreaking bugs you can encounter without patches.

I'd say there is no chance that the game will require an online connection to play. Destiny is a rare exception and it has a good reason for its online requirement. Its a multiplayer focused loot game and they dont want it to become what Diablo has become on the consoles, where its full of people cheating and exploiting.

Isn't there a developers or someone on the inside that can answer this question completely?

It's safe to say, yes, you can play it offline. BUT you may run into bugs here or there, you may not, this is CDPR so the quality is superb.

I made the mistake of getting Arkham Origins on release on the 360..... what a buggy mess, I then spent two weeks house sitting for the in-laws, they have NO internet! I spent a week running into all sorts of glitches. Got home, patched and there were no more issues.

We're all still guessing tbh, but an educated guess would suggest you'll be fine.

You might just get the odd...

Exactly. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a single player experience - we have no reason to make you stay online at any point.

They were probably thinking that they found the perfect DRM protection... and the scene proved them wrong several times. Lesson learned? Of course not...
