Will I need a new graphics card for Witcher 2?

I am following the progress of this game very closely (can't wait....) and read so much about how advance the game engine is, etc. So I am beginning to worry that I will need a new card. I have nVidia GeForce GTX 275. It plays The Witcher 1 perfectly on high settings . Will it play The Witcher on high settings? I would hate to get it home from the shops and find I can't play it!!

I agree with Seeker on this one. They are supposed to release information in spurts . The first info is on the game naturally the 2nd will most probably be the technical side and the last bit should be the system requirements

Don't worry. You'll play fine ANY game on 2011.

That's a pretty good card, we don't know the requirements yet but I wouldn't be too worried if i were you.

You can run Crysis and you're asking if you can run the witcher 2? Dude that card will last you years!I'm still using my 8800gt and I bought it the month it came out and I can play any game with great frame rates (except Cryostasis) and graphics.

This depends on what you're used to.. If you're willing to play games with medium/low graphics settings, low native resolution and you're happy if the frame rate is above 20-25fps then there is no reason to upgrade.. But if not.. well..

Looking at the graphics I think you not be able to play fully maxed out with that card.

hmm this is a pretty good question. I currently have a 9600GT(512MB) on an ASUS motherboard so i can't use SLI because damn asus are in cahoots with ati so it only supports crossfire. But i'm planning on getting a 450GTS(1GB) and using it as my primary card while leaving the 9600GT in and using it for dedicated Physx(you can do that without SLI). I would also like to take this opportunity to ask you guys(that prob are better versed it this stuff than me) what the big difference is between a 450GTS and a 450GTX (aside from the price tag) is the GTX really worth the extra money?

I would recommend buying GTX 460.. I've heard it's pretty amazing graphics card for the price. And about Physx.. eh.. GPU based physx sucks imo.. It just a performance killer and doesn't offer that much eye candy after all. And new games require a much more powerful dedicated Physx card than 9600GT. (IIRC Mafia 2 recommended GTX 285 for dedicated physx :S)

Not a simple answer. It depends on your CPU as well and a couple of other things. On my old config (Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 & 8800GTX) Witcher played like a charm, no problems or noticeable frame rate drops. On a newer computer using a GTX 285 and Intel quad Q9650 it runs smoothly even in 3D, all settings maxed out. From what we've seen so far Witcher 2 will be a step improvement over Witcher 1 graphics wise, so expect the requirement to step up accordingly. I say you will probably not need to upgrade, unless you play at resolutions higher than 1920x1080/1920x1200 (or you plan to use 3D vision or other such funny stuff). You have to take that with a grain of salt though, as they haven't anounced any specs yet. Then of course there's than annoying thing called DX11, which you will not be able to tap into unless you have an nVidia 400/500 series card, or an AMD/ATI from HD 5870 onwards.

I wouldn't be surprised if the minimum specs amounted to a 2 year old pc. I mean come on, PC parts aren't *that* expensive and according to market research most people upgrade their pc in some way at least once every 2-3 years. As for DX11, it provides tesselation and not much else. Observe what id is doing with their RAGE engine. Got a spare 60gb? Fall in love.

This. Wasn't impressed by DX10 back in the day. Aren't impressed by DX11 either. At least not yet..

Good point, I didn't realize they did that. I suppose those pre-orders can be cancelled until they ship the DVD, and goods can be returned afterwards within a time window.
