Will pre-order Witcher 3 now. GOG is more expensive than Steam, why?

What's so good with GOG is that you don't need to run Steam, Origin or any other program in the background while playing.

But the price on GOG for Witcher 3: Wild Hunt + Expansion Pass is €74.99 (that's 625,44 Norwegian Kroner for me).
While on Steam the price for Witcher 3: Wild Hunt + Expansion Pass is 550 Norwegian Kroner.
Both GOG and Steam offers the same Witcher 3 bonuses.

Should I buy on Steam and save 75,44 Norwegian Kroner (€9)?
Or can it help to not have Steam in the background for a demanding game like Witcher 3?

The fact that GOG is not *the cheapest* out of ALL vendors when it comes to a fricking in-house title is beyond comprehension, to be honest.

The discount you get for owning previous Witcher games is nice and fun, but it doesn't change the fact you can buy W3 chepear in other places. And if the list of cheaper vendors includes Steam... that's just dumb.

Well.... if you do not think CDPR is worth the money... and you have to count for every cent.
Buy that fucking STEAM version... but if you honestly ask me....

FUCK STEAM buy it over GoG to support one of the few developers who don t rely on those
fricking control "services".

If you can wait, then wait for a sale on GoG to get it cheaper too ;)

OR

preoder a Retail Version, yes talking about PHYSICAL Disks here ;)
even though they will not be cheaper than the STEAM version i think.

There's no rule that it needs to be cheaper on GOG. If you own the previous games you'll get a discount.
As for Steam, if I'm not mistaken they are selling TW3 with a 10% discount.

I personally bought in on GOG, because I want to support CDPR. Also for me, prices on Steam are almost always higher than anywhere else.

Witcher 3 without the Expansion Pass:

€43,16 (360 NOK) on Steam that has 10% discount - Save €4.80
€49.79 (415,27 NOK) on GOG that has a 17% discount - Save €10.20 .. but still more expensive than Steam.

So if there was no discounts, the original price would be:

€59,99 on GOG
€47,96 on Steam

€12,03 more than Steam.

Just wonder why Steam can be so cheaper.. the money still goes to the game developers if you buy from Steam, right.

Steam is not a charity, so they get a cut, but since GOG is owned by CDPR, they'll all of it. :)

I'm guessing Steam pricing differs depending on country, so you should just choose the one that works best for you.
Get it from Steam if you prefer, no one will criticize you for not getting it from GOG. :)

As val.mitev said, CDPR will get a cut from STEAM money... if you buy over GoG the company get all the money.
Can' t say why STEAM version is cheaper by now... is it on sale at the moment? Otherwise i just think they WANT
that you buy it over STEAM and wont "drift" away to other digital stores. Who knows? I am not (unfortunatly)

@Kinley

Yeah no worries that would be the only outbreak against steam from my side, so far.

It definitely depends on the country. For me it's cheaper on GOG. About 2 euros cheaper.

I think it depends on localization. For me it is 49.99 on Steam(previously 59.99 which means a 16.67% sale) and 49.79 on GOG(which translates into 17% sale) . Just a 20 cent difference with GOG being cheaper xD.

EDIT:my first post :$

Yeah, depends on the country. For me it's 48$ both on GOG as well as Steam.

Origin and Steam show the price in my own currency, Norwegian Kroner.
Only GOG show me the price in Euro and it's more expensive than Steam and Origin.

So maybe it has something to do with that.

PS:

Thanks for the replies, nice to know that all the money is going to the game developers.

For me it didn't made a difference. The price for ordering it on Steam and GOG was the same. Chose Gog though, because of those nice goodies : )

Don't forget to include an allowance for the regional pricing refund/store credit. The ticket price on W3 is higher than the eventual cost because I will use the store credit on future purchases (as I have in the past).

I'd rather purchase from GoG than Steam, and have not purchased some games that I would have played had they not been Steam exclusives.

I bought it on GOG because it was significantly cheaper than on Steam. On Steam it's 59.99 EUR, now discounted by 10% to 49.99 EUR. On GOG, I paid 32 EUR with the 20% discount of owning the previous 2 games. What I don't get is why is the Expansion Pass is 26.49 EUR for me on GOG (24.99 EUR on Steam).. It's almost what I paid for the original game LOL. So yeah, not gonna buy that for now. Maybe if it was around 15 EUR I would have bought it instantly. No matter how I see it almost paying the same for 30 hours of extra content than the original 100 is a no go, no idea what were they thinking when pricing the pass.

yop, I would say that it depends a LOT based on what country you live. For example, the Slovak prices are quite similat to the Czech ones: 39,99€ on GOG and 59,99€ on Steam (which is overpriced as fuck IMHO) (original prices) and I have a friend in Germany who told me that the gog price there is something over 50€

I can never understand why people make such a stink out of a couple dollars difference in price. Like $60 USD and $62.99. Honestly, who really cares about $3 whole dollars difference these days?

Then again, it's Witcher 3, first time in years I feel like I WANT to give them my money. Even more knowing the money will go to the studio, not half of it to some publisher. I am happy to pay, I will be getting more than enough fun for that price.

Then buy from GoG.com it supports them directly and you get a better DRM free game.
