Will be getting the CE, and extra GOG copies for friends and family. You call it fanaticism, I call it saving up for something that is truly worth it. It's the last game in a series I love, from a dev I simply admire.

Fuc..... yes. I've spent more than 500 bucks on Pillars of Eternity and more than 250 bucks on Star Citizen so I should be able to buy a CE of Witcher 3. And probablyI will buy a Steam key as well, just to have all the Steam goodies and features for actually playing the game. But nevertheless, a Steam code would be a nice addition to the already quite costly CE and a great customer service. It should be obvious that getting a Steam key with a CE has quite a high demand nowadays... ;)

Hi, I think this is NOT really matter any more, since we know, the GOG Galaxy cross-platform system/free client software coming soon to support the non-steam/DRM-free GOG-games on Steam. ;)

I'm pretty sure that's not how it works. I think it just means that you can play online with other people who play on steam, not having non-steam copies of games as steam games. So that really means nothing for The Witcher 3 because it doesn't have multiplayer.

Ahem, I'm not sure if GOG Galaxy will work like that. I think you will be able to play multiplayer games with Steam customers but you won't have Steam features yourself. Stuff like Steam achievments and trading cards and things like that won't be possible if you play on GOG Galaxy.

Witcher 3 physical preorder question.

Been meaning to ask, if I preorder the standard PC physical edition from Amazon will I be able to activate the game on GOG and be eligible for the digital pre order bonuses such as the digital art book? Would really like a physical copy of the game and the artbook, but the CE edition just way beyond my paygrade.

I might be looking to purchase the collector's edition for The Witcher 3 for the PC, though, only if it connects to steam w/ achievments and etc.. Does anybody know if it will with 100% certainty?

On a side note I bought dungeon seige 3 (sadly) for the PC and it connected with Steam but Disciples 3 (another let down) did not connect with steam, which meant I couldn't buy any expansion for it on Steam. So I need to make sure before I go making such a large buy.

Thank you.

Steam is DRM. If i were you, i grab it from GoG. If you like client, you have GALAXY

If they later decide to give a "free GOG-back up copy" as a reward to all the retail buyers, I certainly doubt it will include all the extras from the pre-order, but who knows. :)

I believe that in time (though probably not right on release date) we will be able to register our physical edition on GoG and have a digital backup there.
I expect that GoG backup copy to include:
- artwork
- wallpapers
- avatars
- bonus videos
- world Map
- digital soundtrack (the standard tracks)

I expect it NOT to include the other GoG/pre-order bonuses, such as:
- the digital artbook
- the 4 bonus soundtrack tracks
- (beta) access to The Witcher Adventure Game
- free copy of Neverwinter Nights
- The Witcher: House of Glass digital comic book

(Then again, if they REALLY want to push GoG Galaxy, they may even decide to give you that backup copy on GoG right on release date...)

I really dont want to have to put in the Disc everytime, only because I bought the CE. This is 2014 (well, 15 then)...
Many PC players dont even have a Disc Drive anymore...

I say NO! to GOG backup copy!

I think they shouldnt do it this time around. It will make everyone buy it on Steam and Amazon knowing they will get GOG copy for free. After they will annouce it no one will buy TW3 on GOG anymore. Which will lower the CDPR and GOG profits. They have to sell around 3 retail copies to make money from selling 1 from GOG.

That's an interesting question, I bought on GOG so I know I can get it from there anytime but since the game is DRM free, I don't think there will be any 'key' provided so I really can't think of a way to tie the game to Steam or GOG for that matter when bought physically.

Not really sure how that's related...

For one exactly how many times are you planning to install The Witcher 3? Cause you said "everytime".
For two you wouldn't buy physical in the first place if you don't have a disc drive.

To be honest, they're already giving a pretty swanky deal for the GOG pre-order. I'll more than likely get the CE, and pre-order the GOG copy a bit later on as well.

They should make that a physical copy is equivalent a digital copy. I bought Diablo 3 retail and i don't have to install it as i don't have a DVD-ROM. Download and play.

So people who dont have a Disc Drive arent able to buy the CE... how is that good distribution managment?
And do you think Im using my Disc Tray only for The Witcher? lol
Since there is no download, you will have to keep the disc in the tray because of copyright reasons...

And why would you need a backup when you have it on steam?

Yes and EA forces you to use their Origin client and gives you a key which ties the game to your account. The Witcher 3 is DRM free, you get the game disc, you install the game that's it, there is no key input involved, there is no 'security' involved.

Because some people don't like Steam? And feel better when they have a backup they know they have control over?
