I'm expecting a shoddy port because that's what we always get when a formerly pc-only dev starts doing multiplatform development.

CDPR, please prove me wrong.

Let's not forget that PS4 and XB1 are architecturally similar to PC, so I really don't think a big chance of a shoddy port is there.

X360 was already extremely well done, so I don't have any doubts.

Sure thing, it took them some time to iron things out. That's expected - things get fixed and get better. Wine really improved hugely since its early days. Don't forget it's not a proper gaming platform, it's a translation layer to run Windows programs on Linux. So sometimes things work out of the box, sometimes not until some bugs are fixed or features added. Native gaming is what's supposed to be a proper experience. (Even though CDPR themselves used Wine to release Witcher 1 for Mac OSX). So don't be surprised that Linux users will continue bugging CDPR to release native builds in the future.

I hope that Linux users will get native ports, but until it will become a standard, I would never suggest anyone Linux as good platform for gaming.

You misunderstood me, usually when PC-centric devs become multiplatform devs PC gamers get screwed.

Hell, we were kinda screwed with Witcher 2 because the PC version has that horrible list inventory, radial menus and was clearly made with the use of a gamepad in mind.

That's the irony, Linux is not a good option TO PLAY GAMES right now because it doesn't have many, but it does have some very cool ones.

However, Linux IS an excellent platform FOR GAMING, because it's customizable all the way down to kernel and system calls. You could have a super fast, super lightweight, Linux system designed for multicore and large RAM. But, as we all know, there is an economic monster dictating future developments that does not care about efficiency or innovation, but about profit.

Let's not turn this into Yet Another Linux Discussion please, the topic was PC/PS4

.Volsung.: In order not to go further into off-topic, just one correction. It was not so good for playing, but I think it's already at the turning point when it's good (enough) and will only get better.

After loading up Unreal Tournament 2004 recently, I was given a crash course in what PC games used to be like back then - an absurd amount of customization for your gaming experience. Not just standard video, audio, AA, etc. There are literally seven different screens for fine tuning your settings, complete with sliders for damn near everything there can be a slider for. Witcher 1 was pretty posh as well. I want that back for TW3. I want the PC port to be the delux version where the devs put extra effort into the areas PC can shine.

Oops. Sorry.

But being able to choose your hardware AND operating system is another point for the PC :)

Not kinda. PC gamers were screwed. Especially since the game was marketed as a "true PC exclusive" in every way. It was false advertising. That's why my trust & respect towards CDPR has decreased since and I will not be preordering TW3 before they can prove that they are actually developing a proper PC version.

I'm sorry for just jumping in like this. I can't answer your questions and what WILL be, and I am not the guy you ask for tech support and donät know much about consoles. I do know that I have heard somewhere that consoles nowadays are "PC's with a console shell". If this is true the question is moot, we're all playing PC. ;)

I say yes, the PC version will be 'better' regarding the range it can go in graphics and performance. Add the fact that a well-built PC can hold its own for about five and a half years(I'm speaking out of experience) playing the latest games up to overhaul-time, before you 'need' an overhaul or upgrades. With console you buy simplicity and elegance, and needn't an overhaul, but then again your stuck with what you got until next-gen consoles. With PC you invest in long-term power and performance until you choose to overhaul again. You can tailor it to how you see fit, and 'can't'(shouldn't) open up a console in the same way and do an overhaul as you can a with a PC. Regarding the old graphics and performance issue I dare add it is "as usual" and PC is, as of yet, still superior regarding freedom of choice in customisation, and it is just an upgrade or tweak away from better graphics and performance. Because updates(console) aren't equivalent to upgrades(PC).

Example: We know for a fact that Watch Dogs got delayed until 2014. Surely it was because it would compete with Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag release. Surely.
I however also know that the many gameplay videos shown are from playing on a PC(guess why) played with controller(now why is that?) and that Watch Dogs played on console..."was suffering in perfomance when demonstrated". The juice from the console wasn't enough to stop the lagging of the game. I wasn't there, but I trust my sources, they weren't lying about what they saw.

On a good note, CDPR got praise for their console version of Witcher 2. They've proved that they can deliver, so I don't think console players should have any worries at all regarding either graphics or performance. Better than PC? No, but that's my opinion. Will it suffer because of being on console? No, it won't. It's tailored to be perform excellently from the start. But time will tell.

Same here. It's a fantastic game despite the "consolization".

Consoles users can resell their used games or buy used copies. I'm mostly PC user, but for me consoles are way cheaper platforms than PC.

Gaming itself cost the same. PC has Steam sales and consoles let you buy/sell used games.

How many games from your library have you sold? How many multiplayer games are you playing? How many games with high replay value? Reselling games works only for 5 hours movie like trash titles, games with actual value are expensive. Also that's shoddy logic right there, i can also buy pc, play a little and then sell it, and then say "hey pc gaming is cheap!" As a matter of fact used pc parts are quite cheap.
