Will the Witcher 2 be uncensored this time for US versions?

Since an official patch came out for the witcher that finally uncensored the game in the US. Will the witcher 2 be uncensored in the US during the release this time? Or at least have an uncensored patch come out on release day for those of us who prefer the uncensored version? Also, I have the steam version and love it, Will the witcher 2 will come to steam also? ;D

These are the kinds of details that are usually up to the publisher, not the developer. Since the last we heard, CDPR was still looking for a publisher, that means that they're not in a position to know the answers to these sorts of questions yet.

If I had to hazard a guess, though .. with the relative success of TW, CDPR is more likely to find a publisher that lets them deliver the game they want to deliver.I wouldn't say with any degree of certainty, but as a gambling man, I'd bet on it.

Why would this matter? If the game comes out censored... We'll just download the uncensored files and.. 'voila', instant success.I see no reason why this should be a problem at such a late stage of publishing game development. :peace:

The game is still in alpha phase and there is no publisher found, hence there is no answer to this question yet :whatthe: I even doubt there is already mature content finished which potentially could be censored.

Oh, come on... have faith a little bit. I was hoping to get a glimpse of one of 'em before they release just to check content for fun.If they haven't finished any sort of prototype, how are they gonna support or illustrate their idea to potential publishers? Just a question... :peace:

It is just a pain to do, when I did it for steam, steam would reinstall the censored files and I would have to do it again. I can understand the physical copies possibly being censored, but I don't see why steam has to be since its a separate publisher and they have already shown their willingness to allow mature material to be allowed in steam with the witcher dlc update. ;DOn another question, in one of the interviews, one of the devs said that the witcher 2 would be even more mature in every way, so it will be interesting to see where it goes. I just want to thank the team for making such a fantastic game and pushing the envelope. Thanks everyone!

I don't know about the steam version, but the comment may have referred to the plot and story of the game. Mature content may refer to principles, morals... you know: actually thinking and not just a slash & bash game that allows satisfaction for mature players as well. :peace:

As you could witness of the leaked footage, it contains highlights of TW2. I'm sure REDs made a wise choice to convince publishers

Yes I remember such a statement in regard of TW2 (I think that time it was the more abstract term our future projects) as well. It was something like, they create games as they intend and how the community wants it and not to please constraints.

I have full faith in RED's plans... I mean, TW2 is coming, yo! So I don't think I'll hang on the matter much. I was just concerned about the content initiative, that's all.On another note, I think I would prefer the option of switching between censored files and uncensored ones from in-game. I think that would solve a few probs.Anyways, can't wait to experience the final product as only then can I truly comment pro's, con's, likes, dislikes... should I keep going? :peace:

Found the interview, it was on gamestop:http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/thewitcher2/news.html?sid=6230829&tag=gumballs%3bsubtitle%3b2&mode=previews
AB: Geralt will certainly be in the game, as we've all seen. I must admit we plan to build the story of The Witcher 2 around Geralt, but it's too early to reveal any more details.GS: There were some very interesting and very adult story themes in the original game—betrayal, sexuality, and bigotry. Will these themes be expanded in the sequel? What other themes with the sequel explore?AB: We want The Witcher 2 to be even more mature, so we'll be placing a lot of focus on the design of the story. Gamers will face a very real and brutal world. The way in which we explore sexuality will be greatly improved, and we'll be putting a lot of work into showing the erotic dimension of life in a more natural way, rather than as a sort of minigame. We'll be using cinematic means to flesh out characters, who will differ from each other as they would in real life. These differences will come through in their behavior, their attitude toward Geralt, and how they react to the world.Once again, the game won't offer any choices between good and evil. Rather, it will force you to decide what is important to you and whom can you trust. Many times you'll be left with real doubts about the choices you've made because the consequences of your decisions will be unpredictable.

Thank you for the link. I didn't know it. :) The interview I remember was before the leaked video commotion.

You can't show full nudity in the US without getting an AO rating by the ESRB. And can't sell AO games at major retailers like Wal-Mart, Target, or Best Buy. Don't see a way around this. Might be possible to have a day 0 directors cut patch though. Might even make the limited collector's edition AO, and sell it on the net.

Publishers exist for one thing: to make money. CDPR needs to show a publisher that their game will make money. Making a high-quality game doesn't convince publishers, winning awards doesn't convince the publishers, and neither does having an active and appreciative fan base; only high sales impresses them. In an economic downturn, publishers are even more cautious than at other times.Christmas is coming. If there's anyone you know who might enjoy The Witcher. consider buying them a copy as a present. The thing that will hasten the advent of TW2 is high sales of TW1!

it better be uncensored to the max! I haven't played such a dark and adult rpg since The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall(which is my favorite rpg of all time) and I want to see that continue with the second one.

The simple fact is that the bigger American stores simply will not allow full nudity in games they sell.Wal-mart has a strict rule against games with full-frontal nudity (Like the Witcher) and even threatens to sue over games with toplessness (Like it's stance on Oblivion) And is wonderful as it for be for developers/publishers to just be able to say 'Lets do what's artistically correct and make our game as intended!' not selling your game at Wal-mart is suicide, as the store generates 60% of ALL video game sales in north America. So it's unlikely in my opinion they will go uncensored in the store bought copies. But as the success of the patch for the first game shows, everyone wants to play the real deal. So a similar patch would likely follow very quickly on the heels of the second game to allow everyone to play the game as intended.

screw walmart then... besides if i'm not mistaken statistics show that most computer games are bought digitally these days, not even video game stores allow for more then half a shelf for pc games anymore lol.

Onlilne retailers like Gogamer and Amazon sold the uncensored UK edition at a more expensive price point, so they'll likely do the same with Witcher 2 if CDPR has to censor the US version again. Only problem is that only informed buyers will now to look for this version.
