Supernatural/Occult wouldn't be very good in this game. Although if we take a look at Ghost in the Shell, the concept of a "Ghost" and the mystery around it would probably be the furthest it'd go with the "unknown" as it'd fit in with the universe.

Haleluja.

Sci-Fi and Supernatural elements in the same game just don't fit for me...

I think the suspense that could it be real would play well in the dark future. There are quite a few supplements from the PnP game that brought this up. That it doesn't truly exist in the game world I agree on that point, but to have the illusion that it might I think can make for some interesting game play. Hell, CP is to play off elements in the real world, and there are quite a few people who believe in the occult .

There are quite a few people who eat paste and fuck sheep too, but this game shouldn't be catering to them either....

Racism!

How dare you exclude the alternately-species-sexualled, sir!

I'd probably rather eat paste than kibble. I mean, kibble. Ugh. That's what lower classes eat!

People can, and have believed all sort of things throughout history, that doesn't make them true.
Characters should be free to believe in the occult, but that hardly means it needs to actually exist.

Also feasible that people have used body mod tech to make them selves what the believe them selves to be.

You can certainly look like about anything you want, but body mods aren't going to make you rich, famous, or grant magical powers.
No Technomancers in Cyberpunk.

Well I think cyberpunk would use the occult to justify their killings. Granted it would be just one of many delusional reasons ("... But officer it was that Furby! Satan possessed it and hacked my Neuro processor. It control my body to cut up those people and feed them to my rabbit!")

Nothing supernatural, that you very much.

But the topic of "beliefs" of supernatural (occult) could, with the rightminded and -talented writer, result in something interesting. Eg, what is the role of religion (any, made up one, or christianity or what ever) in the word of science and knowledge, how has it evolved with the rest of the world? Digging into the psychology and philosophy of finding comfort, solace or compel or what ever from these matters. Of course without onesidedly ridiculing anything outright, but exploring the role of a "belief" system in such a world for better and worse.

Could be interesting.

Religion is in essence a form of mythology (why the vast majority of them were founded in ancient times). And like mythology it's primary purpose is to explain things people didn't understand.
What is lightning?
Where did the Earth come from?
Why do people exist?
Is there an afterlife?
These days we have a fairly good understanding of why things happen so religion is becoming less popular with the masses because when you strip away the explanations of what and why all you're left with is a set of rules you're suppose to live by and an unprovable claim that there is an afterlife you have to accept on faith.

That said, no reason to at all to expect religion to be extinct in 2077, but those that follow one will probably be small minority.

Oh yes, I know that, and agree. Not meaning to push stuff like that to the foreground. But I think it would add depth to the gameworld and the narratives if there were these sorts of aspects that reflect the current and evolving nature of human mind and society to explore.

Except that in asia there's been a renewal of religious interests. For example, in Korea, I think there's been an upsurge in Christianity in a country where there is no tradition of christianity.

It could be any number of weird religions like vegetarianism. It provides more then simply explanation but also things like social identity, community, etc.

Religion has been a cyberpunk staple. In the akira manga, it's a central part of the plot. In the anime, it's a part of the setting. It would be a bit disappointing if the subject was not broached.

Some folks sure treat it like it is.
Much like a small minority of the anti-smoking crowd.

AAaand it's highly unlikely we'll see it in Cyberpunk 2077.
