Windows XP user get with the times....or get left behind....

Even AMD is dropping support.

I know there are some die hard fans here but if you really want to support pc gaming and CDPRED it is time to start moving on to new and better things. W7 would be a good starting point for you guys. FWICR you can always make w7 look and feel like XP. Then again W8.1 has
much better gaming capabilities because it will have DirectX 11.2 asw an exclusive. Whether that holds up remains to be seen. Though it seems a good way to get gamers to switch to w8.1

DX11.2 has some "new" (not really) but new to this gen grapics protocols. See above video.
Neat stuff.

I recommend 8, it has really big time misconceptions and most of them are lame talks. As far as gaming is concerned I'm getting better performance apart from overall better performance. And 8.1 is getting back the start button so most are happy now if not all.

So far I have the best performance on Win8, even took WinXP, at least in my case. Love Win8, dunno why the hate for the Metro thing, I actually keep some apps there for easy use.

The only reason I've started hating on win 8 is because some older GOG games don't work on it, so that's something to consider if you like to play older games. Actually, even some new games, like Call of Juarez BiB, are poorly optmized for win 8, so watch out.

They want to cut down XP users. And I don't blame them, XP has most amount of pirates and they know it.

Maybe there is something more
awesome to move to than Windows 8...a better solution you might say...

For gaming? Idk, but the moment another OS comes out that is suitable for gamers, I'm jumping ship.

For the new DX11 games such as Battlefield 4, your probably right. Give it some time though. But for "general gaming", give her a whirl.

Oh I have Ubuntu installed with plenty of stuff but for gaming I always boot up Windows. Plus future games will be DirectX11 anyway so not much point.

I also boot to stripped down Windows deprived of everything save TW2 and a couple other games. But I don't think DX will grow so much as to swallow everything else completely for all eternity. And huzzah for OS X games OpenGL looks like its spreading its wings further and further. I heat it has excellent support from nvidia....wish I had an nvidia card :(

But you're right, for now the man who wants the lastest and greatest gaming has to offer its Windows, Windows, Windows.

I just wanted to throw a suggestion in the ring. There are other choices for those upgrading from Windows XP other than the latest Windows :p

If only Microsoft didn't try to cripple OGL...there were so many things OGL could already do that MS has introduced recently.

Seriously. I wish I was filthy rich so I could fund these open source games. I hate Steam's DRM, but it would be so awesome if a PC gaming diety published/funded/made some big dollar Win/OSX/Linux games using OpenGL. Imagine, HL3 coming out on Linux. HUGE!!!

And to throw something at the topic: When I think of Windows XP I imagine the user as a explorer travleing through the jungle with a machete with a team of armed natives on the lookout for all the malware :p

XP was good system, i still have one on multiboot and sometimes use it if i have compatibility issues with some old programs. Anyway There is high time to drop xp support.

What do you know! Microsoft finally gets something right.
Directx11.2 tiled resources sound like a great feature for a vast open world AAA RPG.
Know of any forthcoming game that qualifies?

All my GOG works just fine in 8.

I am still using XP because W7 are vicious when it comes to networking , my brother uses W8 and from what i see they are crap . Not sure if i will update or skip the whole "format & reinstall everything" hell and just buy a PS4 .
