Witcher 1 remake using witcher 2 alpha build engine wish board

NOTE: I have brought this up on the Dis~bleeech~qus comment board (thank God it's a thing of the past now), albeit originally suggest on using Mass Effect 2 engine.

I love Witcher 2 tremendously and have finished it 8 times over and over like a mad man ever since the game was launched. Wish there could be more developers out there who could make RPGs this good. The Witcher series have proven that even a "small" indy company could actually make serious dents to the long-standing status-quo of the impenetrable big companies market shield, and even manages to breakdown the ridiculous DRM schemes the Big Boys are so fond of toying to annoy their own loyal and legitimate buyers. CD Projekt Red proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that non-DRM schemes really works, without jeopardizing the aims towards BEP (Break-Even Point) and surplus profits.

But that's not what I wish to discuss here.

Ever since I saw the "leaked" Witcher 2 Alpha Build Engine on YouTube, I can't stop thinking how absolutely gorgeous if it could somehow be incorporated into the project of remaking Witcher 1.

I've completed both versions (the original and the EE one), and truth be told, the Enhanced version--or patch v1.4, to be exact, was essentially meant to address the unbearable loading and saving time, bugs and plot breakers issues of the original. Thus, it *had* to be made, since I learned first-hand how awful the original is before the patch. See?

And graphically speaking, I beg a thousand pardon to say that--personally, it still doesn't change much--save for better camera angles, some fluidity and--yes, the additional dialogs that are exceptionally welcomed and very much appreciated. But even with the additional animations being done, still haven't change the overall stiffness and low quality of event animations in the game.

I understand this is more about game engine limitations instead of creativity and commitment of the developer. But that's exactly my point. It is unfortunate and sad to see such passions and dedications be dampened by lack of facility. A remake--especially an official one, using Witcher 2 Alpha Build engine, would be an excellent means to do justice for Witcher 1.

For the customers, imagine the opportunity to immortalize the great and conclusive story contains within the game under the gorgeous new look and power. And as for CD Projekt Red itself, the project would presents a golden opportunity to gain more profits for relatively less the expenses when building the original, since--arguably--all the materials needed are already there. I wouldn't mind buying and replay the adventures of Witcher 1 in its new graphical splendors. It would even be a fresh page for me. I believe many people would agree as well in this matter.

Now, I understand that it is very likely CD Projekt has already had something else in mind altogether for immediate projects--be it expansions for Witcher 3, DLCs, etc. That's great. I just wish that, *at the very least*, in the off-chance of CDPR ever considering to launch the project of remaking Wither 1, please confirm. I don't care if I have to wait years for it, although I'm sure if the masses provide enough petitions--hence the market potentials, it would be prudent to make it comes true.

Or so I hope.

What do you think?

Could someone be kind enough to show me how to properly use the POLL feature? I cannot seem to add more choice answers to the question. Ideally it is supposed to have you to choose between a radio button of "YES" and "NO".

Thank you!

Lol.

Remake for a game that was launched less than 4 years ago :D

Witcher 1 still looks great. No need for this.

Remaking The Witcher would take really loooooooong~ O-O
I also think TW already good the way it is.

But it will be greater if there's a plan on TW3. xD
I've cleared TW2 like 7 times and I don't know what to play anymore,
instead, dying to find out what will happen next.

And here I thought it was just a brilliant ploy to get everyone to vote "yes" :)

No option for "No"?

So which do you think would make the most money, be enjoyed by the most people, and better ensure the developers' future so that they can continue making great games?

Remaking a four-year-old game or making TW3?

TW1 is still as good as it was when it first came out. It doesn't need a remake.

I'd sure like that just so I can actually play the game with out so many damn problems. I have only finished Witcher 1 3 times because of all the technical issues even with the EE and 1.5 patch.

I don't think a reremake (Enhanced Edition...cough)would make sense monetarily speaking, but if those effects could be added to Witcher 2 on a DLC or a patch, now that would be pretty cool to see, kinda like crysis 2 added the high texture and dx11 patch.

I say no. Let's leave the classic at its shelf, the more "dust" it gathers the more precious it will become in time. So you can go back to it in 10 years and say to your kid "Stop talking to this damn console and waving your hands like a madman and take a look at what games were like when they required a keyboard and mouse to play it" :)

Ummm and one thing bothers me - why are you voting for a remake using ALPHA version of the engine? The final version is inferior in some way or what?

Since I recently played through The Witcher I cannot but agree. It still has a very unique and beautiful graphic. It's a marvel what CD Project Red did with that old Neverwinter Nights engine.

Still...a remake would be nice. The same game that I love, not for its graphics, but for its gameplay, story and atmosphere...with better graphics. Hell yes! :D

I want Witcher 2 with alfa-build combat system.
But it's only my own wish - I like old battle system too much.
If it will be advanced and put in second game.

Old combat system was rhythmic and brutal. Why we can't jump above enemies heads? Why we can't be steel hurricane?
Idea, when you don't need to block opponent's attack, and don't need to dodge really great.
I'm afraid, that camp of gamers, who like Gothic-like(of-course I mean game) battle system, won.

I think it's a job for modders, it would be better if they released a complete SDK for the witcher 2.

I don't think its necessary to remake TW1 using the new engine, BUT if they did, I would buy it right away.

It would be really nice to see a remake like that, but I'm not sure if there's a point. The game is unique as it is, it needs no graphic enhancements. Once you get into it, it stops mattering anyway.

Even with avaiable resources it would take same time to make, so I'd rather see CDPR focus on other new projects.

I can understand where the OP is coming from but honestly given that Witcher 2 is a 3 ACT game and considering I just beat ACT I in a relatively short time with all the side quests except Melitelie's Heart to me as a gamer it is a bit of a worry but the replay value is still there because there are many different endings and what not.

Point is I think this should be left to the modding community based on the SDK and what not that will probably get released by CDPR. I think CDPR should focus on releasing an expansion pack or something, or providing more bug fixes and performance updates and enhancing the engine and what not. They only have so much energy and whatever they are doing should already be zapping up most of their energy what with the Xbox release and so on.

That said I would not hesitate in forking out my hard earned money for a remake of the original Witcher though I still think that game is like wine...it will only age well!
