Witcher 2 Crashes After About 10 Mins of Game Time

I previously played through Witcher 2 when it was first released with no problems and have come back for a second play-through.

Hit Flotsam and now for some reason I can't go longer than a few minutes without the game crashing. I think the graphics card is being disconnected as the screen goes green and I have to reset the whole computer. Though the game still plays in the background after a few seconds as I hear the sound effects. I had no issues during the Prologue. First I thought oh great the Graphics Card is gone, however this only occurs with this game. I can play all other games perfectly fine on my computer. I also put the card through stress tests, monitored temps and power supply and there was no issues. Temperatures range within the 60-70 degrees C while playing Witcher 2.

Seems awfully strange that I can play every other game except this one and the problems only happen post version 2.1.

Windows Event Viewer shows no issue with Witcher 2 around the time of crashes only...

OS - Win 7 x64 bit. Home Premium.
CPU - Intel Quad Core i7 920 - 2.67ghz
RAM - 6gb DDR3
GPU - Gigabyte GTX580 (all drivers and BIOS up to date)
Motherboard - X-58 Extreme
Steam version of game installed and auto patched. (Including MS .NET)

All settings on Ultra/Highest except for Ubersampling. Same settings I ran when I did my first playthough. All same hardware.

Any help appreciated.

Maybe just ReInstall TW2. Maybe the problem was in the patching process and your game is crashed.
Greetings! ;)

Weird. Reinstalled Witcher 2 and then went through and clean installed my graphics drivers. Including a sweep with Driver Sweeper before hand to remove any left over files that may cause a conflct. Reinstalled latest Nvidia drivers and had a good session last night playing for about an hour. Went back to the game today and the game lasted ten minutes again with the same results.

Any help appreciated.

First, knock off any and all overclocking that you may have going on in your system--especially something you may have set up since your last successful play-through of the game but possibly have simply forgotten about. Ten of your games may appear to work "just fine" while overclocked while only one of them crashes because of it. That is the nature of overclocking. 3d games do not exercise your gpu equally--different games stress different component circuitry inside your gpu, which is why ten games may run great overclocked but one game will crash every time until default clocks are restored. Best advice: do not overclock and save yourself a ton of headaches.

What's happening sounds like a heat-related problem, as it happens in the same game, every time, after a mostly-typical period of time (you say ten minutes.) Since you say that previously you played the game indefinitely with no problem on the same gpu and in the same system, then either your clock settings have changed somewhere in your system since that time, or something *is* going south on your gpu--such as the fans going out--fans being set too low to keep the gpu cool, etc. Try opening your case and running the game that way to see if it makes a difference. The other possibility to check is your system ram--you could have a bad DIMM, etc. If, for instance, you have a bad DIMM, or a DIMM going bad, then it could be writing back corrupt info to your hard drive over time--corrupting your installing gradually, by degree, over time. But this very same gradual degradation can be caused by overclocking, too.

Since you've reinstalled the game and the gpu drivers, imo, you have likely eliminated software as a problem. Software problems either are intermittent and do not occur with any regularity, or else they occur all the time, constantly, immediately.

This *sounds* like very possibly a minor hardware problem--best of luck! This is all that occurs to me at the moment.
