Witcher 2 EE Launcher Crash on Steam first launch

Now that I remember, Steam also had a similar problem around July 4th when people couldn't go offline (I was one of those people).

Hopefully they fix this sh*t sometime soon, I just got the god damn game yesterday and was only able to play for a bout an hour. Are they actually going to fix this or should I just return my copy now?

It's definitely going to be fixed but the problem right now is when will they fix it. Or if we can at least find out why this happened maybe we can come up with our own fix.

I just knew when I saw the update for the .Net4 come up last night when I was shutting down, something was going to go pear shaped.

Anyone else notice on the launcher that your "Registered Users" is grayed out and the bottom has "*Connection Error. Try again later."

Complete and total baloney that I can't play single player because it can't connect to CDP? I'm only 2 hours in but have been enjoying it much more than W1 that I just finished.

This leaves a bad taste in my mouth with no White Honey to wash it out with.

I own this game for almost one year and never made it through the epilogue due to different problems.
First my pc cracked and the experience on my notebook wasn't really good, after fixing my pc I had performance problems and decided to resume playing it after the patches.

But hell! It's just too cool to drop it.

Now I'm eager to buy the coming Geforce 660ti just to play this game on ultra settings. =D

I have the gog version and the launcher works fine as long as the net isnt connected. Is it possible to play through steam without being connected to the internet?

I was playing it two hours ago when the game crashed. Then it wouldn't start again, with the OP's error message.

How can this happen? (Not angry, just genuinely curious about how such a thing could happen mid-session. I was playing in Steam's offline mode, even.)

Some of us just got home from work and were looking forward to spending some time with it. It's not like this game just released yesterday, bugs like this shouldn't happen. Never rely on someone else's software to drive your game, it'll piss off the masses when it breaks.

0. Put Steam in offline mode.
1. Disconnect your network adapters. (Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections)
2. Play the game. It will work.

Until CDPRed fixes it, we can use this.

EDIT: This should also work for those of you who bought it via GoG. Just follow steps 1 & 2, skip 0.

Awesome, this works!

Make sure you really deactivate your network adapters and put Steam to Offline mode.

Looks like there is a server issue which can be avoided by following these steps.

Exactly the same problem here. I have a GOG version. Yesterday, everything went fine (and has been for months), but today, even though nothing has been installed or changed, suddenly I get this launcher runtime error...

Unfortunately, it does not work, at least for me. It just tells me "failed to contact key server". Nothing more.
Three days ago the game was running perfectly. I'm just wondering what in the world has happened in the meantime. I really hope this issue will be addressed soon.

But this is not through steam.

I just bought the CD box of the game and I have the same issue. First time installed, get through the cd key box and into the launcher and it crashes.

I am trying to patch it manually to see how that goes..but its gonna take quite awhile, so I wont be able to play the game tonight.

I guess their server went down and some bug in the launcher causes it to crash when it can't connect to the server. I can play it when I run witcher2.exe, but it's not possible to upload arena results either. I hope they will just restart the server tomorrow and we'll be able to play normally again.

Relax fellas i`m in the same boat as the rest of you with launcher has stopped working . Witcher2exe located in the Witcher 2/bin folder works just fine though .

For Steam users regardless of whether you use the launcher or the witcher2exe it will throw you back to the launcher and has been that way from day 1 so in order to play the game you will HAVE to go offline in order to play .

I`m sure CDPR is aware of the problem but i`ll send a PM to ensure that they know .

Thanks for the advice. I just got Steam last week, downloaded Witcher 2 as my first game, tried to play it for the first time today and am getting this launcher error. I'll try the offline mode then and see if that works. Appreciate the help!

Edit: Well, no luck for me. I can't disable my network adapters cause I'm not the only person who uses the internet in my house and my comp is essentially the server, so unless someone has a brilliant solution, looks like I'm out the money for Witcher 2 without ever having played one minute of it! Very dissatisfying ...
