"Witcher 2 Has Stopped Working"

So I downloaded my game through Steam and let it run over night and when I woke up it was done downloading. Now I let Steam do its normal updating stuff when I click play, and then after that the launcher loaded. After the launcher loaded I clicked launch game and the Wolf Head comes up and it tries to do something for a few seconds and then I get a Windows message. The message says something like "Witcher 2 Has Stopped Working" and when I hit close on the message it brings me back to the launcher.

I have tried verifying the file integrity multiple times through Steam, I've turned off my firewall, stopped the MSSECS process, I have tried running it through the bin folder, and I have tried running the launcher, and bin exe as an admin as well as in Compatibilty Mode Windows XP (Service Pack 2).

I am running it on Windows Vista (Which I suspect may have something to do with it, with all the security and whatnot) and I was recommended to run it at Medium Graphic Setting.

Please help! I don't know what to do!

Try running Steam as admin. If that doesn't help, Check file integrity again, while running Steam as admin.

I hesitate to recommend re-installing the game while running Steam as admin. It might help but I don't want you to spend another night downloading before trying some other stuff.

I just tried verifying as admin and it is currently doing first time stuff agIn with the .net framework. Everytime i verif integrity it says 1 file is missing and it will be reacquired, but every time it says that

Download the Tool from #19 of this list and run it. Maybe some registry entries are missing, because Steam was run without admin privileges when installing the game - this tool will add them.

If that doesn`t solve your issue with the game try looking at the link for more possible solutions . http://en.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?/topic/26411-additional-fixes-for-21-issues-and-142-error-or-witcher-2-stopped-working/

Man, I have almost had it with this game. I have re-installed it through Steam, tried the updates, tried running Steam in Admin compatibility as well. I wonder if I can revoke the license and get a refund. It is no longer worth it for me to try these DRM issue riddled games.

I bought the new Riddick game day one and still haven't got the DRM shit to work so I could play. Not to mention Splinter Cell Conviction needed a workaround to get the DRM software to patch itself properly. I have spent hundreds on games and it is so frustrating. I am going to research my games from now on and if they have any DRM, it will be a no buy for me.

If you get the game from Steam it should have the latest patch already installed and no other patches will work with the game except the ones from Steam . Also this game has NO DRM at all . You could start by posting your system specs or at least stating what kind of error you`re getting and or the problems you are experiencing .

Hey Tommy, this is what I am running.

i5-2500k OC'd 4.4GHz
16GB's Ram
2 x XFX 6970's
128GB OS SSD
500GB Games HDD
1.5TB backup HDD

I have tried re-installing with admin rights, the framework patch, and adding the game launcher and steam to the exclusion list in Avast with no avail. I just seen that patch 1.1 removed all DRM. Good on this company, but now it seems the latest patch may be my issue?

Seeing you running a SSD, makes me suspicious of this: Is your My Documents folder in the default location? Changing its location is a common thing to do for SSD users.
I think having it in a custom location may cause some trouble with TW2. Not sure about a workaround/fix, but at least that would be a hint to a potential cause of your problems.
