Witcher 2 - Monster lures

So here's the deal,on my first playthrough I saw that Cedric was selling some lures and decided to try them out so I bought some nekker lures went in the forest placed a lure on the ground but nothing happened, then I went deeper in the forest saw some nekkers in the distance used a lure again and waited a while but got the same result. Also tried using them during battle as distraction but that didn't seem to work either, read somewhere that you should use them with traps but that doesn't make much sense since monsters galdly walk into them when Geralt is on the other side.So can someone please tell me how monster lures work exactly? Has anyone figured it out?

I never used lures because I didn't realize they existed until pretty late and I didn't see a point, but I am curious if anyone will respond with some insight to something we missed that makes them a great use.

I'm curious too. What's certain is that you don't need them for any of the contracts. Unless 1.3 changed that.

It's true that you don't really need them but it's bugging me that i can't make them work so i hope someone knowledgeable of their use will reply soon.

I think lures should work together to traps, but frankly I never used them neither I felt I needed. I mean: Geralt IS pretty a lure himself for monsters

I'm still not sure but they definitely do work. I placed a harpy and meditated and the nekkar lure I placed and came back in a few minutes...needless to say it didn't end well in either picture because I had not expected this.

If only they worked like that but sadly it was only a coincidence.

Is there anyone at all from CDP who can tell us how to use the monster lures?!

So in the end how are monster lures supposed to be used is pretty much left a mystery. All the in game tutorial tells you is you should use them with traps but exactly how and in what situation isn't explained.Unless a dev comes here and sheds some light on the matter its like banging your head against a brick wall

Agreed. I never used one and never felt the need to do it. Considering the witcher contracts in TW2 are not ingredient harvesting like in TW1, why would anyone need to "lure" any amount of monsters? You just have to get a very specific job done, like destroying nekker nests or deactivating gargoyles. If we had to collect 10 rotfiend tongues or 21 nekker hearts, maybe having them come to you would be useful. The only use I can think of is for farming mutagens. And this is if we knew how to operate them, heh.

I've used the nekkers lure bait just before the nekkers nest as so they go straight for the bait instead of me.
What you do is place the bait before the nest and then place a trap before the bait so when they come up out of the ground and straight for the bait and BOOM they hit the trap.

He's what to do:
1. Don't get too close to the nekker nest and place the conflagration trap (which incinerates everything in range).
2. Place bait near trap or Yrden trap (if you wanted to).
3. Run up to nekker neats so they come up out of the ground after you...some will go for the bait and but if the trap is before the bait they hit the trap instead and BOOM...dead nekkers.

I've seen a nekker go for the bait they just grab and eat it.
But while there eating the bait you can flank them from behind and swing your sword at them.
All lures do is lure them to a point and distract them for a second, so it's best to use that time to attack or escape.

Thanks for the tip I'll try it out and see if it works
