Witcher 2 still not working. All hope is lost.
Witcher 2 used to work around v2.? for me.
After an update, it never started again. It's been a couple years since I've been able to play the game.
Two attempts to get support from CDProjekt Red ended with them giving me the same solutions available in their online tech support, then they stopped replying to me.
I've just did a big update on my computer, putting in the latest video drivers, cleaning the registry, etc, and thought I'd reinstall the Steam version of the game to see if it magically started working again. Still doesn't work. I installed the NODOTNET patch and the trying the registry checker. Didn't help. Tried Windowed mode, nope. Starting as an administrator, nope. I'm using the default settings for a clean install, trying to start the game all advanced graphics shut off (including anti aliasing) at 640x480. No entries in the Windows Event Viewer during my attempts to start the game.
For the first few attempts, I was getting the msg about the app requesting to terminate in an unusual way, and it exited, not even back to the launcher. Now I get no messages, just goes back to the launcher. I think the NODOTNET patch made it crash differently.
Previously, I've removed and reinstalled the .NET client and C++ client. Haven't tried it this time because every other game (40 of them?) I have on my computer works fine and I don't feel like wasting my time trying something a fourth time when I have no belief it will help. Because I believe the problem is with the Witcher 2 executable.
I believe the issue seems to be that I'm running the game on an Alienware gaming laptop with an ATI 5850 video card. I've seen some other people having similar issues with that particular video card while searching for solutions on the internet. Some sort of change made by CD Projekt Red has made the game unplayable, and I doubt it'll ever be fixed, because so far it hasn't.
