Witcher 2 won't launch

I recently installed the game digitally over steam. I ran the performance tester for this game and it says that my PC can run it on high, so I don't think hardware is the problem. I searched all over google trying to figure out this damn problem, yet nothing works so far I tried: running steam as an administrator; running the launcher outside of steam as an administrator; my .net is 4.0; I do have visual c++; My resolution is 1600 x 900 (not that high); restarted the computer; steam says that the game is up to date; ran the integrity check; ran the registry check.

Edit: apparently I got to the actual Witcher 2 launcher which is a first for me. But it's still not launching.

I don't really know what else to do, I'm getting real frustrated with this.

The Steam version seems to be problematic. I would suggest getting a copy from GOG.

Actually I was able to successfully launch and play the game after going to steam and launching it from there. Not sure what exactly fixed the problem, it's possible that it would be the witcher 2 registry fix (I did that at the last minute). Thanks for the reply btw.
