But...but...that's the point! The entire Divinity line has been campy comedy. They're the Army of Darkness or Red Dwarf of the cRPG world. That being said, I can see why players not expecting it might pick it up and be, like: "...what the @#$% is this?" I love it for the combat mechanics. I have rarely had so much fun with literally every single battle. (And I've only played about halfway through. [Adds a note to page 143 of the gaming to-do list...])
Sure, I can see where you're going but Divinity OS is more than campy, silly and absurd: the main plot itself is often incoherent and the dialogue/writing is simply atrocious. Most cRPG's have campy and tacky writing, but we tolerate it because it sort of comes with the genre. In this game I had to force myself to read most of the text and it was a painful experience. I don't know how to explain it, imagine it was written either by 12 year olds with a thesaurus or by non-native English speakers with perfect grammar but an incomplete grasp of semantics and phrases. I still clocked around 100 hours so the game is good. The combat and exploration mechanics are so much fun that you can essentially wander around looking for encounters and puzzles, with only a basic idea of the plot as to know where to go next. But then again I am the kind of player that actually reads the text so my standards/expectations tend to be high.
I heard Div OS 2 is better in every way though.
