Witcher 3 fps drops and lag

Witcher 3 fps drops and lag

I am playing on the newest update 1.06 and have been getting fps drops from 60 to 30-40 and low frames of around 50 fps in novigrad. This has been a problem for me regardless of the patch (happened in previous 1.05 and 1.04) I have the last nvidia drivers running 353.06 and am running it on a gtx 960 at medium and low settings at 1080p. The lag is present even with framerates of mid 50s and it's driving me crazy. I recently bought the gtx 960 and got witcher 3 for free so it should have no problems running it.

I am also having this problem but only since patch 1.06. Graphics have been 100% for me since launch but now frame rate is terrible. I have been playing with most settings on high and water/terrain settings on ultra. edit* I also have the lastest nvidia 353.06 drivers
i5 3.4 ghz
16GB ram
GTX 970 superclocked

So I was playing witcher 3 and noticed the gpu usage on my MSI afterburner on screen display, and it's usually at 99% but drops to low 80s and sometimes lower than that during these fps spikes. This problem is not from overclocking as I have tried running my gpu at stock and underclocked speeds but still having the same issues.

I3 i5 and even a i7 with HT they all are in the same boat. The Witcher 2 was perfect in terms of performance and had 0 stutter that's why I was so excited to see the same thing in the Witcher 3 but instead, I'm so disappointed with the game's performance and stuttering...that it almost made me cry.
Performance wise I give the Witcher 2 10/10 the Witcher 3 4/10.

I have i5-2500K, and gtx 970, both overclocked, game runs fine. Framerate locked at 50 fps never drops below 45.

Things you must do (which have been repeated a million times already) to get the game to run nicely:
1. TURN OFF VSYNC (unless you have a monster PC with SLI Titan X's you will have a hard time going over 60 fps so using vsync in bad)
2. DONT USE THE IN-GAME FRAME LIMITER (set it to unlimited and use external framelimiter options; RTSS is the best one and most commonly used)
3. TURN OFF HAIRWORKS (again, unless you have those beastly Titans there, Hariworks will murder you fps)

remember you can have one frame every 2 synchronizations about every 2Hz on 60Hz display with 30fps limit So it's BS especially with SLI or CROSSFIRE when v-sync is A MUST HAVE.

Another thing i dont see a point in limiting frames to 50 on 60Hz display and NOT EVEN GETTIN THOSE 50 frames. I mean, what's the point, why do you set it like this???

THIRD THING: people are referiong here to different problem, it's stuttering often caused by gpu utilisation drop and some other things probably streaming not even related with those you mentioned

Noticed that ALT TABing hurts FPS a lot :)

1. If your rig can't maintain 60 fps 100% of the time, than everytime the fps drops below 60 (even 59) will cause the fps to suddenly drop to 30. A lot of people dont know this (still, in 2015, people dont know how vsync works when even Duke Nukem 3D had vsync) and are complaining "I have a powerful machine, why do I only get 30 fps?". That's why I always suggest to turn off vsync, see how it works.

2. I can run the game at 50 fps 90% of the time, I only drop to 45 in heavily wooded areas. I said this, before "never drops below 45.". Where are you getting the

I cap it to 50 to limit the difference between max fps have min fps to have a smoother experience and reduce the stuttering. The bigger the difference between the min and max fps, the worse the stuttering. If I uncap it, I can tun the game at close to 60, so I rather have smooth 50 than, jittery 60.

I run the game with lowered setting that allows me to achieve an average FPS of 77, highs of 85 and lows of 68. My FPS never drops below 68 even in the busiest areas of Novigrad.

However, this is when the areas around has finished loading. If I then sprint/ride to a new area, while it loads in, I get awful stutters where my fps will drop to around 55 for a fraction of a second. Then as soon as its done, my fps shoots back up to 70-80 fps.

My rig is capable of much higher settings and staying above 60fps, but these stutters only get worse with less headroom. Seems to only happen in populated areas.

My_PC_setting "core i7 3.07GHz" "GeForce-GTX750Ti" "24GB-RAM"

The patch V1.06 killed my "Witcher3". I gave up finding solution, and decided to buy GTX 960.

I have been playing "Witcher3" with GTX750Ti. My graphic card is little bit old, but there is No lagging and No low FPS until patch V1.06 show up.
When I got patch V1.06, my "Witcher3" completely ruined. Suddenly, it makes terrible lagging or horrible low FPS. I can't play this game anymore
even lowest graphic settings. Oh my god !! This is so unreasonable. WTF!!? It should be fixed immediately by the patch V1.07.

I think, developer should not make over clocked game title. It's a stupid way of challenge.I can't feel any kind of proffesional game developer sense from that.
Think about it. Not everyone have such a high spec monster machine.Therefor,it must be based on contemporary common gaming machine like a PS4 or XboxOne.
Otherwise, developer will lost big market share, and game business will be failure....

CDPR is trying to get the game configured for a pretty huge range of available hardware. No amount of play testing, even Open Beta, can really get a program ready for all of the millions of combinations it's going to hit once released...especially when being released on PC and multiple consoles.

Right now, the PC engine is being tweaked to enable more defined textures, I believe. They're also trying to kill stutter. Introduce one fix...3 more things break.

This is the price we pay for a competitive, capitalistic hardware market.
