Just tried your presets and its by far the nicest colorful one. I felt like saying there was just a fraction too much yellow still there sometimes, but nope its damn perfect :)

Does make mine look a little blank, lol, but i still prefer it.. i can't deal with the really out of place colors in novigrad when you add back color, and just in my imagination.. something more bleak matches a merger of the witcher books+eastern europe (ive never been so its all fantasy) looks like more than lots of colors.

Great job though, its excellent!! Just mod it to match the cutscene lighting, a bit more gamma lift plus adjusting everything else to compensate should do the trick.

Thanks. The E3 preset is colorful because the 35 demo gameplay is all but desaturated. For this in that preset I kept the vibrance. Different presets do different things.

As for the cutscene lightning I don't know if I will make a version tailored for it, sincerely, especially the E3 one that's completely in antithesis with it. If you want to make a preset for that different lightning, imo, it should be just little variations to saturation/contrast but nothing that changes colors.

A little bit ago? Did you mean they fixed it with patch?

EDIT: I mean this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQUKoJRuIyg#t=2m00s

I watched many videos and still do not see any IGNI sparkles similar to this. All I see fake collusion and weird IGNI sparkles movement. Even the hair shaders was more realistic in that video. Look at Geralt's hair when direct sun light hits his hair. There was more subsurface scattering effect on his hair. Not only wierd bloom how it is now.

Lol what do you want them to say ? They got flak for the downgrade, now leave it be. You can't really expect them to say "OK GUYS WE DONE DID IT. WE DONE DOWNGRADED IT FROM THE 35 MINUTE DEMO"

:p

Not really m8, but i'd expect for them to tell us whether there will be releasing some sort of high res pack in the future... or at least announce when the redkit will be out so the modders can get to work :)

You've read the Eurogamer interview?

They said "WE DONE CHANGED THINGS FROM 2013 VGX TRAILER" but only mentioned that build.
From what I can gather there were 3 builds. VGX, 35min & Release. I have no proof of that but that's the way it looks to me.
They referenced a lot of material specifically but not the 35min video.

I don't think "we" are expecting them to admit the downgrade in relation to "35m" (it's plain to see and we don't need to roast them over that) but we would like to know if its never going to see the light of day.
CDPR have a habit of coming through with the goods eventually and as they stated they need to get the product working on the cash cow consoles.
Its clear PC perfection took a back seat and still does whilst they patch the current release.

A few words on twitter would be nice

"35m vid - not going to happen"
or
"35m vid - wait"

Silence though? Frustrating.

Using KNGs lighting mod + Uber Fidelity Suite from Nexus i was at least able to achieve nights that look like actual night time. Will probably look different on your monitor, mine has 99% RGB coverage and a gamma curve of 2.0

didnt know that the moon could cast so much light that you can see every detail on buildings and surroundings clear as day, in the middle of the night, in a swamp, without any light sources whatsoever.. :rly?:

then again, im from europe so what would I know..

Still too bright. At night time there can't be such hard transition from shadow to moon light. Not even close :(

if you want realistic lighting try Watch dogs, its irratating every time somone post a mod or a screen shot and then you have the typical guy come " ITS NOT REALISTIC LOL SHIT LIGHTING " get over it seriously, its a dark fantasy world

Oh, yes, Uber Suite, the one that copied the name (along style etc.) of another preset on Nexus called Real Suite. Aren't people wonderful?

Don't know about Watch Dogs either tbh, havent played it. Kingdom Come Deliverance has some really nice lighting, much closer to actual realism imo. Arma 3 is another good example of decent lighting, or the Vanishing of Ethan Carter.

Oh wow, no matter how low you set the bar, there is always someone who easily disco dances underneath it.

Yeah, Arma 3 is one of the modern games that doesn't have an overly saturated atmosphere with lightning intensifying colors at all costs. One of the few examples in these last years and it seems like also Fallout 4 will follow suit with the "colorful" ambience, no matter the context.

People have been bashing the game for its looks but I have to say that I quite like the new lighting. It seems to go back to the way Fallout 1 and 2 looked, or rather their cutscenes, instead of building on top of the (almost nonexistent) artstyle in Fallout 3.

and both dont have the scope/density of W3, of course they will have more time to spend on such things, and i just watched a video of Kingdom come showing some forest, wich look very flat and too realistic, that dosnt mean that the lighting is bad, thats probably what the art director wanted, and its matter of taste at the point

if you go for realistic lighting you better have a godlike lighting systeme otherwise the brain will start to notice every imperfection ( and ther's a lot on that Kingdom come video ) and from what i remember in Arma3, its even worse

I like the lightning too and also the graphics themselves. What I don't like are the too vivid colors and not because of the colors themselves (in a certain sense in a Fallout game they can even be suitable if you look at the context in a certain way) it is just because ALL the games nowadays seem to require it. It's really difficult to find games in these last years with a desaturated palette, no matter the context. Not all gamers are children.

yeah I doubt we will come anywhere near a photorealistic lighting system within the next 20 to 30 years. Even CGI trailers are years away from that. Until then, I'd take "stylized visuals" (Bioshock Infinite, Witcher 3) over "close to realism visuals" (Kingdom Come, Arma 3) any day of the week.

Still, I cant help but shake my head whenever I read about some "photorealistic" sweetfx preset or some such.

well there are reasons for that, and few of them have something to do with age difference or target demographics. I.e. I found myself getting fatigued way quicker with a dull preset than a vivid preset in W3. The dull one always had me thinking "awh man, if only XYZ would look better.." whereas something like the 1000 Times Worse Preset just had me thinking "man, this is just beautiful. Look at all them colors!" You just tend to forget about all the little visual imperfections way quicker than with a dull and desaturated preset, where every detail counts. Also, color rich and stylized games tend to age way slower than close to realism games in terms of visuals.

But Essenthy is right, at the end of the day it comes down to preference.

Yeah. Like a few aspects of the witcher, when you and try and fix it it completely stuffs up another time of day/weather. Make that night scene have the right moonlight and very certainly daytime shadows become too dark.

They must have hand edited their global illumination constants specifically for the style they were going for, the variation between the changes in time of day and weather do not change evenly.

PONY players don't want to use torches. I'm sorry. Once something is responsible for something bad its only natural that that same thing gets associated with something else bad. :p

It is not just "preference". There are some settings into which a too vibrant color look doesn't connect you to the world as it should. It depends on artistic style, primarily. If, fore example, you go for a realistic style then if you use a too colorful look the two don't associate so well as a colorful look is more appropriate in a fantasy style. So the two things are usually linked: colorful visuals often go together with a cartoonish style and, given that almost all games nowadays are colorful, that means they also look oftenly cartoonish.

Perfectly fine, the problem ensues, imo, when ALL games (again, no matter the context) share that cartoonish style. This is, definitely, tied also to demographics and the console market, but, as I said before, not all gamers are children and I would like sometimes for games with a more adult setting to have a more adult style.

Witcher 3 is a sort of mix of the two in its downgrade: the 2013 trailer was much more "adult like" and for this I preferred it more (given the lore of the game). The 35 min demo already had a more cartoonish style but at last, at that point, colors were done well (as in your example). If you decide to go the colorful look at last make it so that the look isn't opaque as in the vanilla game we have are (the colors aren't desaturated yet they aren't vibrant either as in the gameplay demo: there's a sort of "opaque orange filter" permeating the scene so that a white point is neither existent to begin with; strangely enough PC version are MORE opaque than console ones as some screenshots prove).
