Anyway it's all subjective, I was just sharing my opinion. One more question I have for you though is how do you figure the world is dark and desaturated??? TW3 is way less colorful than this spring day where I'm from :)

Does the light of the sun at the zenith looks orange where you live? You have obviously grow accustomed to the look (and this indeed can happen) but play a game with a more desaturated palette for a bit, as for example Arma, then return to play the game and you will notice the overly orange in the light. The light of the sun doesn't look orange when the sun is not obstructed, it looks yellow, bright yellow (almost dirt-white in the summer at the zenith).

Moreover it's also a matter of artistic vision and how the era is represented generally. Practically all the works of art representing a period as the middle ages have a very desaturated palette: MIllet, Goya, Bosch, El Greco etc.

As for the thing of the two Titan X: I willingly skipped that altogether because I have no idea from where the guy took that data. The only mention we have of hardware used was of a SINGLE Titan X and the demo was run inside the editor (so requiring much more resources than in a closed build), and also this is not certain because in the interview the one asked wasn't sure.

Almost every modern game has MSAA...
Maybe the ones you play. Most of the games I've played in the past few years only support "AA on/off" FXAA, TXAA, supersampling, or nothing at all. MSAA has been deprecated by many devs since it costs so much to use in modern engines. TW2 and 3 for instance doesn't support it.

Biggest indicator is Geralt's hair, it's supposed to be bleach white, comparison i made here with vanilla and a sweetfx preset that removed the yellow/orange tint:

TXAA is MSAA with Nvidia's self made temporal filter.

@Amioran
I can't say I've paid much attention to the sun when it's not glaring orange at me during the sunset but in any case I didn't say I liked the vanilla palette, I just think changing it drastically leaves me worse off.

that removed the yellow/orange tint:
And every other color! Later I'll post some images on what I do. How are you toggling it on/off though I thought it was broken for this game?

TXAA is the equivalent of 4xMSAA at a fraction of the performance cost, last I checked.

Absolutely wrong...
MFAA is Nvidia's new AA solution, x2 MFAA has peformance cost of x2 MSAA and similar quality to x4 MSAA

TXAA is MSAA coupled with Nvidia's proprietary temporal filtering. Performs same/worse than MSAA, arguably looks worse in most game it's been implemented into because the temporal filter blurs too much.

Ever thought of making a save point and reloading the game?

Easiest way: simply alt-tab and delete the settings file to remove the filter and put it again when you want it ON. But there's also a way to make the toggle work, but you can do it only with SweetFX 2.0 (nor Reshade Framework or Mastereffect).

An intresting or funny point is that CDPR, I believe used this color palette because they've seen how popular SweetFX is but in my opinion they overdo the saturation part. It's funny because usually you use SweetFX because most games use washed color palettes but it's the opposite in Witcher 3.

The Witcher 3 has become THE standard for open world games. I am guessing that Bethesda will not be able to come close to it for Fallout 4 or TES VI. Especially making a game so gorgeous have completely open interiors and seamless city-wilderness transitions.

Oh, so you haven't seen the game in person then. As in completely uncompressed video footage. After seeing all the promotional videos, images, and the early copies released to YouTubers, I was still blown away when I saw it for myself. It is without doubt the most gorgeous game I've seen.

You're hilarious. "Underwhelming", pray tell, by what benchmark? Can you provide a list of open world games with better graphics? Or are you from the future and have you seen Witcher 4 and Elder Scrolls VIII? Or are you one of the delusional people who believed you were promised the unreleased, unfinished builds that barely ran 30FPS on two GTX Titans? Based on you "cancelling your order" I would guess that is the case.

I'm doing a Step-Up upgrade to the GTX 980 Ti (from a 980) just to be able to run the game as I have it configured now at 60FPS sometimes (I don't expect the Ti to always stay above 60)... I get about 45FPS on average at 1440p. I'd certainly rather have the game as-is than be forced to buy a 2nd GTX 980 Ti to run it at reasonable FPS.

Also, how exactly is graphics discussion off-topic? Am I in the wrong thread?

And to quote you from earlier:

What?

That upper left corner in each shot... Really the entire upper half. If you'd have cropped just that, I would have guessed it was a PS3 or Xbox 360 game. Or Oblivion-era PC game.

Anyway, I leave you with:

Ugliest. Game. 2015. 0/10. #DowngradeGate.

PMd you. Sorry to post something partially off-topic. Please share with me the settings in the links at the bottom of this post. I've got to say, those are pretty stunning. Thanks

First, second, and fourth shots are mine. I'm using AndyB's INI tweaks + a little bit of Reshade + a shit ton of downsampling. Really, the resolution is doing most of the work there :p But if you want to see my very minor ReShade tweaks, I can provide those.

Yes.. That was my point for tweaks...
And to remove glow from his hair and foliage but try to keep game color pallete. And game must look great in all places on map, (and it does - Bog, Novigrad, interiors, forest in the middle of the day, Bog in the middle of the day......)

Vanilla:

SFX:

You're getting up in a tissy over this? This is such a minute color change you can hardly even see it.

Oh good! You're here. :) In my PM to him, I directed him to find the owners of the images on NeoGAF.

That's also exactly what I told him about downsampling. Curious, is that even higher than 4K?

Could you please upload it somewhere? I've donwloaded one supposedly uncompressed version but it's only 1.5 GB.

P.S. Haven't tried it myself but this (https://sfx.thelazy.net/games/preset/3699/) preset looks great, removes that yellow tint while keeping the vibrance of colors.
I got it from GamerSyde here: http://www.gamersyde.com/download_the_witcher_3_wild_hunt_35_minutes_gameplay-32805_en.html

It comes in torrent form, which if there are still seeders it should download pretty quickly.

Any update on these?. This just highlights how crude / flat the current lighting looks in some areas, imo. It looks good only at very particular TOD. Mainly around sunset.

At night especially, lighting is way off, with random stuff glowing bright, when it shouldn't. It looks like the lighting shader is taking pixel color into account for brightness. Hence why bright colors, like skin, and Geralt's hair are glowing in the dark.

I'm not home at the moment to try anything specific. But, you're not going to get anything like these screens from ini tweaks. I've tried virtually all ini tweaks, that were hidden in the game's binary. The only way we'll get this correctly done, is if CDPR does it. Which they probably won't, because of probable parity contracts, etc. Even with RedKit, this would be extremely difficult to mod correctly.

Also, regarding people claiming they can get better lighting with post-processing injection .. Firstly you can't really do lighting via post effects You'd have to be able to hook into the game's own parameters, similar to what Boris does with ENB. Secondly, you can't do lighting with only pixel shaders. You need at the very least, corresponding MVP vertex calculations done via the vs. And that's for the most simple forms of lighting shaders.

On a secondary note: I'm not some graphics whore. But a lot of these things are ridiclously obvious, and plain distracting. Such as pop-in, the ridiculously aggressive LOD, etc.

Look at this example below - how is this not supposed to distract you from immersing into the game;

Look at the house in front of Geralt:
witcher3 2015-05-31 16-36-05-72
At few feet further back.
witcher3 2015-05-31 16-36-09-84

This isn't even the worst of it. I really don't like making these whiny posts, but I couldn't ignore it any longer. It's very jarring, and distracting, imo.

Can everyone just please MAKE A SFX PRESETS THREAD!?

Instead of spamming this thread full with presets and pictures.

This thread is about the DOWNGRADE and hopeful UPGRADE.
