Witcher 3 is missing some key open world features == modding possible?

Witchers outdoor open world areas are really compelling and exploring is awesome, but W3 is still missing some key open world features.

An example of this is Lornruk. It is a beautiful structure in a beautiful location. As it is, it seems like it is just a prop to allow the player to get another set of amour, when it could be so much more. The problem that there is no way to make Lornruk feel like it is yours. Geralt can't sit anywhere, relax anywhere, cook or change the structure in any way. This lack is partially why Skyrim mods have a billion downloads and Witcher barely a million on the nexus.

Here are the open world concepts that need to be developed in order for W3 to fly as an open world.

1) Player home capability in nice places like Lornruk ...... To see what a well implemented open world home looks like see Dragon Tree Temple and Leaf Rest on the Skyrim Nexus.

2) Ability to set up a camp in interesting locations, with a tent, fire and cooking pot. Geralt running around in the wilderness just feels wrong without this.

3) Ability to cook food and raw meats .... yes he can't get sick, but that doesn't mean he likes his meat raw.

4) Horse Storage and boat storage.

5) Since W3 doesn't have 1st person animations, it would be great for Geralt to also have much more environmental interactions.

1) Geralt already has a home: Kaer Morhen. Getting another home would be pointless for Geralt and also unrealistic. He's mostly on the move and doesn't really have the time or desire to settle anywhere.

2) This isn't Skyrim. Geralt is a minimalist and doesn't really need such luxuries. A campfire and a tree to sleep under is enough for him. Besides, where would he store a tent and cooking pot? On Roach? I don't really see how that would be practical. Setting up camp is not a bad idea but to keep it in line with the lore it should be simple, just a campfire and maybe a sleeping bag made of fur, that's all Geralt wants and needs.

3) This is true.

4) But we already have horse storage? Geralt's inventory is basically stored on Roach. You increase his inventory size by getting bigger saddlebags for Roach. And I don't really see a point in storing your goods on a boat.

5) This I fully agree with. The early E3 footage had Geralt looking around and looking at passing NPCs. I'm really sad this didn't make it to the final game. It would greatly add to the immersion of TW3.

I can't see what you anyone wouldn't want these features .... you don't have to use them.

Just killing stuff is so unimanginative and gets boring and repetitive ..... The whole open world was so superbly done ..... it now needs more to do in it ..... Just look at Skyrim mods Frostfall and Hunterborn. W3 isn't Skyrim but it would be a waste for ProjectCD not to incorporate features proven to be popular in Skyrim,

W3 doesn't need Gwent either and you could argue that Geralt wouldn't play Gwernt while the world is falling to pieces. But Gwent is actually the a very interesting game and really adds to W3. It is stuff like thins that makes an open world and open world.

Making a camp really adds a lot of open world feel to Skyrim .... it would do the same for W3.

There are some ways the W3 is better than Skyrim. Geralts movement interactions are more realistic .... he hops fences and grabs ledges. SAiling and riding a horse are superbly done IMO.

Also, I didn't mean home in the classic sense .... places he would buy. A well implemented system would be a place like Lornruk. Geralt finds his way in and since he cleared the place out it is now his. He would have storage, places to sit, a kitchen, chairs so he could enjoy the view. Whats the point of making a beautiful place like Lornruk as only a contrived platform for a monster? Let us also set up defenses, traps and other things to keep creatures out.

This is all technically possible and not all that demanding .... it just a question of which direction the dev should proceed. Maybe you don't want it because you would rather the dev make more monsters to kill or DLCs. I am already getting bored of killing monsters as too many are just generic scrip[ted events. There are some interesting ones like Foglet and Werewolf but not enough to make the combat part of the open world be interesting without anything else.

Modders could do all the things above if ProjectCD gave the proper tools to do so. But Skyrim mods are plagued with incompatibility problems. I am guessing the W3 gaming platform is every bit are rickety as the Skyrim CK and that is why Witcher mods have less than 500K downloads.

IMO ..... ProjeKtCD should finish the open world or give modders the tools to do so. Skyrim is actually a pretty boring game, but modding has kept it alive far past its expiry date. If not for modding Skyrim would already be in the deep discount bin on Steam.

the features are nice but they're hardly key

and witcher hasnt been out for 3 weeks while skyrim has been out for over 3 years and you compare their mod download numbers?

you might have a point in there somewhere but try to present it with less fallacious statements

The developers have given it their finish, so to speak, and will be releasing their modding kit for people sometime this year. This will change the landscape (pun intended) of what this already awesome game can provide. It will be player mods that create the situations you want, and since they have to be added by players, vanilla gamers won't ever have to worry about whether or not Geralt ought to make a home in some abandoned, previously inhabited-by-monsters ruin.

Because they are unnecessary, and in conflict with the narrative background.

I certainly hope that modding support is turning this game into a game thats worth playing for thousands of hours. Hard to tell yet, but we'll see.
I love the game world and i'll add my part to turn it into something more than "i played the story 3 times, but thats rly all this game is about". I wanna see it as a true open world game that inspires for a really long time to play. And not just doing the same main story over and over again.

Alot folks might say "Witcher isn't that kinda game"... but honestly, Witcher 3 could be one of the greatest.
Let's see whats going to happen. :)

I agree with almost everything.

1) However, not with the 1 thing, witchers wander the wilderness for jobs so haveing a house in Velen for exmpel just feels wrong, but mabey we could get a storage/chest at dandilions house and on in Skellige.

2) Yeas!!!!!

3) Yeas was very disapointed that you could not cook fodd but only make potions :p

4) do not care, just find better saddelbags.

5) No opinion.

Should CDPR add The sims features too ? Like he has to pee if his bladder bar is full or dump if his stomach is full because he ate too much.

The world isn't that full of monsters and wild animals anyway, most of the time we spent are on horseback, not that I complain, it gives the sense of adventure in every possible way because of real spacing between locations in the world. Just like Johnny the godling, taking a dump in the morning gives him joy lol. Should give Geralt more things to do or interactions with the world as humanly possible. xD

1. NOPE
2. Agreed
3. Agreed.
4. NOPE
5. Agreed

My opinion about this.
Agree that more sitting down and environment interactions would be nice and agreed that a little camp would really be cool for the immersion feel.
I disagree though on points 1. and 4. Geralt has no home, that's just how it is and how it should be.

Can't say I agree. The game is about trying to find your daughter against the backdrop of a huge war... and you want to sit around and decorate?

And Gwent... Gwent actually makes no sense, when you really think about it, but the Witcher games by now have a tradition of being able to gamble, so they had to have something... and I suppose in the end, it's best that they went with something fun and well designed and not another iteration of a lousy game like dice poker - but the fact they already have one thing that is not a good fit, thematically, is not really a logical argument for having more.

More importantly... IMO you're confusing "open world" with "sandbox". Witcher 3 is very much an open world game. In fact, it's probably the best realized open world in CRPG history, in terms of making it feel alive and filling it with stories. What the Witcher is not, and hopefully never will be, is a sandbox game like Skyrim where you can spend lots of time doing stuff completely unrelated in any way to the plot, and 95% of what you do matters to the final outcome of the game not one bit.
