For those who can't see the contents of the game informer article:

Recently, a neat detail about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was revealed for the first time. CD Projekt Red has figured out how to dynamically grow Geralt’s facial hair during the game.

While this may seem like a small feature revealed by German magazine Gamestar, details like this enhance the immersion and help sell the reality of a game world. And, if you’d prefer to style Geralt’s hair yourself, CD Projekt told Eurogamer the free “Beard and Hairstyle DLC” will let you do that. Once you download it, Geralt's beard will stop growing.

We reached out to the developer to find out if this bit of immersion would be extended to other parts of the game. It turns out that Geralt’s face isn’t just good for telling time between shaves.

“Geralt's face actually changes the higher his toxicity is,” CD Projekt’s lead quest designer Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz tells us. “As you know, Witcher elixirs are highly toxic, and could kill a human if he/she drank one. Witchers are more resistant to this toxin, but it does influence them. In game you have this ‘toxicity bar,’ which shows you how intoxicated Geralt is.”

The potions take a toll on Geralt, and you won’t need a bar on the user interface to monitor how he’s doing. “The higher the toxicity bar, the more those toxic changes show on Geralt’s face,” Tomaszkiewicz says. “His face becomes unnaturally pale, his veins become visible and seem to be black, dark circles appear under his eyes, etc.”

We're eager to see these nuanced systems come together, though I'm not sure I'd want to anger a strung-out, unkempt Geralt. You can find out more about The Witcher 3 in our recent hands-on demo from PAX East.

According to the Playstation store if you preordered the game digitally you can play it on May 18th starting at 4 PM PDT. Is that an error or legitimate?

you mean in 4 days? or a day before original release? I find both unlikely.

Difference in time zones maybe? If the game launches midnight European time it will still be the 18th in America.

I've never seen a game release like that before. Usually it comes out in the US a day after Europe and Australia get it.

I hope so! That would be awesome for me, I don't want to start playing at 9PM cause I like to go to bed early. 4PM would be perfect, play for a few, eat dinner go to bed and rock it some more in the morning ;)

Seriously? You are going to start TW3 for a couple hours then be able to sleep? I guess I have an issue that if I start a new anticipated game not long before bed I wind up tossing and turning and eventually get up... Would probably be better to play longer and go to bed a couple hours late so I fall right asleep... :D

TBH I probably will wait till Friday night to start playing...

I wonder what it means for physical preorders. Does that mean they'll be at stores for pickup on the 18th? What about if you got delivery, will they start shipping on the 18th?

Yes, last I knew anyone on the west coast gets to play on the 18th at 9pm.
That's normal, digital or not it's all the same. The 4pm is news to me though :)

I would believe this is either incorrect or an estimation on their part.

We are working with all partners for consoles & PC to establish what time the game will unlock (as well as if there will be preloads and so forth). When we have dates & times we will let everyone know. :)

Sweet jebus I can't believe they put his glorious toxicity face in the game. It's like christmas around here, we ask for it, we get it.
