Witcher 3 Region Locked

Hi,
first sorry for my little bad english.
I have a question.
My russian friend have me giftet the Witcher 3, but now I see witcher 3 have region lock.
Is this game with ru tag not playable in germany?

I don't think so man, but i really don't know. The pc version probably isn't, but the XBOX 1/ PS4 i gess depends on the console.

You're most likely best asking this on the Steam forums.

Probably just Steam cracking down on the whole issue where Russians were gifting people games for super cheap and then people would just sell their TF2 keys to get the money for them. I don't know for certain, but if they are starting to do crack down on it, and ensuring RU copies can't be used outside of RU, then yea you might find your copy is now unusable, but you should definitely try posting over on the Steam forums first.

All X1 and ps4 games are region-free. So it is definitely about PC digital distribution with regional pricing.

I don't think it's a regional pricing thing, more likely an anti-gray market action. As Vigilance said, there are many unauthorized resales originating from Russia. It's not individual gamers, either, it's gray market traders undercutting distributors in other regions for profit.

Depending on where your friend got the key from you better clear it up with him, and then go from there, as others have suggested once you have found out from your friend where they got the key from then contact steam.

Don't risk it. CDPR should region lock all these gifts on Steam! Almost every game I go to in trade section people want to trade W3 for another game. Everyone seems to have these gifts. Some games locked after announcing the game and have mod supervise Steam trade tab deleting any gift sales posts.

I traded with someone (many months ago), and in the gift did not say it was a Russian version so I turned and saw it was a Russian version on Steam.

In Russia video games are pretty cheap. That is reason behind the region lock.

Yes, I agree and it is right, but on Steam (not sure if you know the story), many people have traded the game The Witcher 3 and there is nothing strange, but when the game is actvated it turns out that it is a version Russian and not ROW (Rest of World), and so many people have been deceived by the RU version, and now there's the version on Steam RU and RU OLD, and we do not know what will happen to us "RU OLD" if region locked or not.
On purpose I created a topic to learn more about this, I like CD Projekt company because I like honest, I hope that CD Projekt not block the game "RU OLD" on Steam for us that we were unlucky.

In GOG edition game will probably include all languages.

With this lesson, we all learned that while trading in steam, we should be careful. Bu look at the bright side, you can learn Russian in a very effective way. At first you wont understand anything, but after six hours you will get the basics and when you finish the game (i think 30-40 hours) you will understand and speak Russian very well.

Man I bought tw2 by steam and thanks to the settings I can play the game even with Italian audio and interface if I want, changing language will be a feature. Don't worry

Ma comunque tu che versione hai di The Witcher 2 Russo? In che senso hanno aggiunto questa featured? Io ho The Witcher 2 Versione EU e quindi ce l'ho in automatico Italiano la lingua, ma perchè c'è anche audio italiano? 0.0 La mia unica preoccupazione è che sarà bloccata la versione RU OLD oppure ho solamente la lingua Russa e non in Italiano.

LOL, I thought you were Italian, however, at least I hope you will put this featured language at least for us "RU OLD", However you have that version of The Witcher 2? Change language via the Properties of Steam?
