witcher 3 suddenly minimized and screen went black

Have been playing this game for over 10 hours now, no issues until tonight. As title says it happens out of no where, game window was minimized. When it happened i try ctrl alt delete to see if the application is frozen but screen went black. I moved my mouse around heard clicking noise like im at the witcher 3 menue but screen still black. I tried ctrl alt delete again but nothing, So i Im guessing gpu driver crashed or something.

Just checking if anyone else encountered this while playing witcher 3, every other game i played have never crash my gpu driver.

yea, occasionally it happens. I just hear the sound and still quit the game normally since I know how to navigate the menu. this has been an issue ever since

For me, my screen never returned normal it was black i had to manually shut down.
wait this is a on going problem? how wide spread is it?

I also got a blackscreen recently when Ciri and Geralt ride horses for Velen in the Bald Mountain Quest.

Save often, and alternate the save slots in case something goes wrong, hope it's going to be addressed in the next patch. It's totally random, had it before loading a cut scene, during fights, exploration etc.

It's a driver crash, and apparently it's quite common. Here are some things that were reported to help:
- don't use temperature monitors like EVGA Precision X or MSI Afterburner (but then it might BSD due to genuine overheating)
- roll back to older drivers (350 or below)
- use fullscreen instead of borderless window
- don't have any browser windows open
- add TdrLevel/TdrDelay registry settings
- disable nvidia hairworks
- disable aero windows theme
I tried all of those, and they seemed to have helped to various extents, but neither solved the problem completely, sadly. Yesterday it happened right at the most dramatic moment of Geralt and Ciri reunion.

I wonder if you guys had to manually shutdown your computer due to black screen never recovered.

I also did some reading on the upcoming 1.07 patch and no where it mentioned about the black screen.

I also get this black screen error I tought it was my hardware ,still not sure ,but sometimes (rare) game goes black for me after my PC restarts itself ... but while restarting it doesnt show anything on my monitor ,so I have to turn off PC and turn on again ... anoying ,,,

Not just on PC. 1.05 patch on Xbox =black screen follows start menu. No workaround I've figured out so far. Lucky ones on the PC if you can.

Maybe has sth todo with the "get windows 10" ad, that pops up? After uninstalling that windows update, my witcher never minimized again.

The momentary 'black screen' is a Driver issue.

What is actually happening is the driver is crashing, and then recovering. It's been happening to me since I updated to the Witcher Game Ready drivers. Just roll them back to the previous driver if it bothers you enough

My problem is not momentarily, my screen stays black i had to manually shutdown my pc.

So it minimized on me again tonight, but i waited this time and nothing happened. The game didnt crash nor the driver and i was able to bring the game back up. Last time i hit ctrl alt delete right away and screen went black on me. Another thing i noticed is happened again around 10 hour mark

I have 3 crashes now since my first crash but all 3 my driver recovered unlike the first crash. I noticed tonight something weird about witcher 3, i played it for 4 hours straight and noticed ram usage gets higher and higher with passing hour. I was little over 7gb of ram usage after 3 hours of play. Im not sure if this is the cause of driver/game crash
