Witcher 3 WIP, what exactly is left to be made to the game?

Hey devs and fans!
Since Witcher 3 got delayed I wondered exactly why? what is it that you are still having to polish or make entirely? Now don't get me wrong, I completely support the decission to delay it in order to deliver the best experience possible, and I belive in CD projekt. But seeing the new gameplay videos that have been shown I can still see some things that could use some work. Like:

  • Geralt's armor or body, still looks like spandex to me.
  • Gerlat's face looks a bit odd
  • graphics in general and textures
  • Some people have mentioned the GUI

Those are just some that come to my mind. Another thing I noticed in the latest gameplay "teaser" is the dialogue between Geralt and the peasant, it sounded too fast or "weird" when geralt shows him the dagger, almost like if the had cutted it to make I faster.

These are just little things that make me wonder if there will be more in the game right now and if they will be fixed.

And what I would like to know, and I believe other will too, What are you guys still improving, and what is right now a near definitive version?

The game is six months from being done which means it most likely has 5 months, and a week left of development. In this time they claim that they are polishing the game. Which means in simple terms getting the game as nice looking as possible, and lowering the PC requirements while stabilizing the performance. It also means fixing as many bugs as possible, and possibly tweaking elements of gameplay until they are at the best possible balance IE as fun they can possibly be. Also they are finalizing art assets/sound files/etc. You know nothing really interesting outside of making the game more enjoyable.

Yeah I could imagine that's mostly it, but what I'm most interested in is what will be left as it is, for example I believe that the current armor or body model that geralt has is prety weird, and other things like that.

Don't you know.. that there will be like 30 different sets of armor to find and wear.
I'm sure at least one will fancy your taste. ;) This armor is for the demo, but I still like it just the way it is so..;)

Yeah, I've seen the cool concept art, but what I mean is that if the different armors are all similar then it will look quite weird, and not only the shape but the materials of the armor, its weird how geralt's armor is completely covered by chainmail and a bit of leather or cloth. I'm no expert but it just looks out of place.

I think the issue with little things like that is it veers very heavily into the "personal preference" category.

Things like: Pop-Ins, Framerate issues, Animations and general bugs... There's not really an opinion, if they exist, or there's problems with those elements, then it's going to look bad for everyone.
Really out of all of those the only element which has some opinion to it is Animations, but even then I think it's pretty obvious when something just isn't animated well enough. (It's more about tolerance and how much you do/don't care about animation quality)

If TW3 was releasing Q4 this year, I think stuff like the Animations, or changing the potions system if they decide to do so, would be near impossible. There simply wouldn't be enough time to implement and test it all, especially when they need as much of that time as possible to clean up the game, and this time it's 3 different platforms that each require heavy QA. However the extra 3+ months they've got with the delay gives them the opportunity to do what couldn't be done before (Or at least it's my belief that it is), surely that gives them enough extra time to add/fix animations, polish up any other gameplay elements we haven't seen but require it and make a few changes here and there to certain systems if they want/need to.

It's not magic, what we're seeing now is probably still pretty damn close to what the final product will be, however just that extra time gives them the chance to make a few little important changes if need be and hopefully we'll see it get done.

Well no telling, but I imagine touching up Geralt's appearance could be on the polishing list, or he might look exactly like they want him its hard to tell. From what I have seen of the gameplay today I would be more than happy playing the game as it currently runs. Of course my opinion is kind of bias seeing as how I am drooling over this game like a dog does with a new bone.

I absolutely agree with you on that. Almost all of the complaints I have seen in the forums are what someone personally wants in the game.

Yeah, I'm starting to realize why devs wait a month or two before release to show off actual gameplay, unless its behind closed doors and NDAs.

Well from what I understand, the game is in pre-beta or beta right now so that means content creation time is mostly over and now it's time to work on what has been created - fixing broken features or cutting them out if they can't be fixed in time, smoothing the game out, optimization, bug fixing, balancing, gameplay tests, QA tests and the like.

Yeah, and with this being such a huge game I'm sure that is a hell of an undertaking.

I'd point out that the demo they are showing at Gamescom is the exact same they were showing at E3, at least I see no differences.

Also the E3 Demo was probably not the latest build they have of the game. It was probably the most stable one though.

I was under the impression that they were still working on side quests. Remember that it's a software house full of people with dedicated roles. What are the quest designers going to do for a year while the animators and programmers smooth out the combat? How about the artists? The writers? I'm sure that some are working on future projects, but some are probably still adding to the core of the game.

I want it to look and play more like the two first gameplay trailers....
I guess that wouldn't happen but... yeah..

Two possibilities one they are currently wearing different hats at the moment as in assisting other departments at a reduced albeit useful capacity. Or there jobs aren't done yet as part of the polishing process is revising the art assets until they are at the highest possible quality, and performance. Most likely though if they aren't doing anything for Witcher 3 than they are working on future projects IE 2077.

You forgot "Going to Gamescom to answer bearish questions" :)
I wouldn't expect the designers to be doing anything new in the game at this stage, but there'll still be some fixes coming in as a result of testing.

1. Get the Swallow poison's guise back. In the W3 it was made as a red bottle, but swallow was never red.
2. Remove the swelling from the face of Geralt. It does not fit him.
3. Enlarge the scar on Cirilla's face. In the books it was bigger and scarier.
4. It is necessary to make horses mortal.

This is an open world game so it probably has a lot of bugs. The game is probably content-finished but the devs are now crunching to fix all the bugs to release the game in a playable state. At least that's how I see it. I don't see them making more stuff. More stuff means more bugs and more QA and they already have their hands full. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if some stuff gets cut because it's too buggy or there is not enough time to fix it or it's not good enough.
