Witcher 4: A Missed Opportunity

+
Fantasy + Cyberpunk, is ShadowRun.

I hope they focus more on monster hunting in Witcher 4. So its not so generic. I would make monster hunting as big part of exploring, or story etc. Witcher 3's hunts were way too short.

If monster hunting was bigger, they could even add somekind of online/MP mode. Kill stuff together. I heard they are considering it.

Honestly, I would love to have a Witcher game with a sorceress protagonist, making all that magic, intrigues and politics. Plus some xxx stuff. But I understand I'm a minority here and always will be.

XXX stuff for sure. I think Ciri should carry some Shibari ropes... Enter occasionally into dark dungeons to do her thing. Kinky girl. You need to find Ropes to enter and you dont need to do sex cut-scene stuff, just show the room and the master etc. Underground is nothing to new Ciri as far I know, she was part of a gang.

I don't agree with the crossover and first person bits, but I'll say one thing: it would have been more interesting for Ciri to keep her unique Elder Blood abilities instead of getting turned into a conventional Witcher. She could have had an Elder Blood equivalent to Witcher alchemy, that would have been cool.

So long as she gets to bang. female prostitutes and other women, I'm happy (and given what we've seen in all CDPR titles, that's pretty much a given).

Let me explain.

We've already played witcher games where you drink potions, grind your sword, and do all the witcher things. We played 3 of these games. While preparing for each and every battle is true to the lore, it's also a bit of a slog for the current gaming atmosphere.

The Witcher 4 trailer shows a bunch of stuff Ciri is doing (which she shouldn't even be a witcher), that we've seen and done before.

Ciri HAS amazing abilities, and one of those abilities is time dialation like from Witcher 3. Basically she has a Sandevistan. It would have been 1000% times cooler to see the trailer of her using HER abilities, slow time, first-person etc. That's something never been done in a Fantasy game and would appeal to current high-expecations for something new.

Furthermore, Witcher 4 could be the FIRST EVER cyberpunk/fantasy cross-over genre. Ciri could have returned from cyberpunk realm with actual cyberware. This would be a totally new experience and GENRE and fits with existing anecdotes and clues dropped in Witcher 3.

BUT NO. We get plain old trailer, with plain old witcher potions, in plain old village, with plain old people doing nothing.

Such a HUGE missed opportunity to think outside the box, make something NEW. Not just-another-witcher game. Very sad CDPR has lost its creativity here.

The trailer was the ONE CHANCE to set expectations and build excitement and it's failed.

Hmmm, I think there has been elements of her special abilities, like for example when she was pinned to the wall and dd collect energy for her massive blow on the beast.
In general, those 3 previous games, why have they been successfull? From my perspective, some of the success factors are: they have been challanging, but not toomuch challanging. Good side quests, and a good main story. Goog story telling (especially in Witcher 3), nice and lively world, ...
I would suggest to the developers to concentrate and improve of those qualities. Yes some new things or changes would be good as well, but don't make a total different game. The notion to have cyberpunk elements in a Witcher game doesn't appeal to me personally. It wouldn't be the same world any more the traditional whichter wouldn't belong there ..., just my opinion on that :)

Hard no.

Borg Ciri is one of the few things that would actively make me want to not play this game.

The Witcher 3 easter eggs within CP2077 were nice but that's all they should ever be.
I agree.

I do not like the direction at all. Making Ciri a Witcher does not make sense. Lore wise.
What were they(CDPR) thinking?

They should have made the game a spin off game if they really wanted to have Ciri as protagonist. Have all her Elder Blood powers.

And then make Witcher 4 a new game in the main series with a male witcher: maybe use Gerald again or another male witcher(young Vesemir or a new one).

Pitty.

And what's with the look and voice? Does not look and sound like Cir.
As far as I`m concered, they have just lost a loyal fan and a costumer for Witcher 4. Without Geralt as the main character, a sequel makes no sense. If they truly wanted to retire him, they should have stopped at Witcher 3, insted of continuing with Ciri - character who hasn`t proven herself worthy of carring a new franchise.

A quick note on CDPR's cinematics:
- force pushes are getting repetitive (Geralt Aarded Detlaff, Ciri pushed Bauk)
- The "forceful moment" when the main character gains a sudden burst of power, pushes the enemy and gets an upper hand is starting to get repetitive (V taking on Dex's bodyguard, Ciri taking in power from the water stream)

I think it would help the supposed upcoming W4 trailer (or gameplay?) in June if it worked with lore and storytelling instead - that is, used some witcher rituals, etc. to deal with a monster, not force :)
